Today, official commemorations will take place marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz. The Polish President will meet, among others, with the Presidents of Israel and Ukraine. The main ceremonies are scheduled for 3:30 PM, at which time the head of state will deliver a speech.

In the morning, at 8:30 AM, the President of the Republic of Poland (PAD) will lay a wreath before the Wall of Death. At 10:05 AM, plenary talks will be held between delegations led by the President of the Republic of Poland and UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay. At 11:00 AM, the Presidents of Poland and Israel will lay flowers before the monument to Rotmistrz (Captain) Witold Pilecki, and at 11:05 AM, a meeting of the presidents will take place.

At 11:20 AM, plenary talks between the Polish and Israeli delegations will commence. At 12:10 PM, statements to the media by the Presidents of Poland and Israel, Reuven Rivlin, are scheduled. At 12:40 PM, plenary talks will begin between delegations led by the Presidents of Poland and Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. Statements by the presidents to the media are scheduled for 1:05 PM.

„We must clearly state who is responsible for the Holocaust. The perpetrators, those who conceived it, were Nazi Germans, while the Soviets helped them in initiating this process by dismantling the Polish state and starting World War II with Nazi Germany” - stated Deputy Minister of Culture Jarosław Sellin on Jedynka radio.

"All these aggressive statements distorting history were made solely on the so-called Russian market. Putin, with his vulgar, aggressive words, spoke to Russian generals, to his parliamentarians, but as soon as he travels abroad, when he has to face leaders of other states, he lacks that courage and speaks differently. What happened in Jerusalem is a fear of the brazen lie spoken before leaders of other countries, but also the effect of our activity – of the Polish Prime Minister and President, historians, and historical institutions – which broke through with a counter-narrative, and the world bought it. Poland's narrative concerning World War II has been accepted, and Russia's rejected. Such coordinated actions yield results," said Deputy Minister of Culture Jarosław Sellin on Radio Jedynka.

- Yes, I would go to court [as a judge nominated by the new National Council of the Judiciary] and I would probably do what the judge I watched the day before yesterday did. A district court judge was shown, I don't remember where from, but she directly told the parties in court that she was appointed by the president at the request of the current NCJ and what the parties thought about it. The parties said they saw no reason why she should stop judging - stated Wojciech Hermeliński in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Piasecki's Interview".

- Not at all, it [the Supreme Court resolution] has legal effects. It has a legal basis, contrary to what the minister says. However, each case will be assessed individually, as the court probably said in the third point of its interpretative resolution, and here every judge who begins a trial after January 23, every judge who has gone through the current NCJ, the status of the rulings they issue may be questioned - continued the former head of the National Electoral Commission.

- The Supreme Court stated this in a very cautious, balanced, and straightforward manner. There are two situations here. One situation concerns cases where rulings have already been issued before January 23rd, or where proceedings are still ongoing but commenced before January 23rd. In these instances, there are no grounds to question these rulings due to the court being improperly constituted. The second issue pertains to rulings and proceedings that began after January 23rd with the participation of judges whose appointment is flawed. And here, there is no rule, no compulsion, no predetermined outcome that rulings eventually issued by these judges will be flawed - stated Wojciech Hermeliński in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Piasecki's Interview."

- The Supreme Court said it depends on the circumstances, on the procedure for appointing that judge. I see it this way: one must trace the entire path of this judge's appointment. Because if it turns out that this entire procedure starts with the court, with the general assembly of judges, then the judicial college, then the case goes to the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS). If it turns out that the general assembly and the college provided a positive opinion, and the KRS also agreed with these conclusions and presented the candidate to the president, and the president appointed them, then there are no reasons to question that person - he continued.

- There is no atmosphere today for establishing such a council. There is no atmosphere on Israel's side. On the side of politicians who attack Poland, saying that Poles sucked antisemitism from their mother's milk, so today there is no such atmosphere for such an agreement - said Witold Waszczykowski in an interview with Dominika Wielowieyska on Radio TOK FM.

- It should not rule [the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court]. I don't know if they should dissolve. They should not rule. In my opinion, it is not a court. Besides, it's not just my opinion; the [European Court of Justice] in its November ruling and the Supreme Court in its December ruling and the Supreme Court in its interpretive resolution have all said so - stated Wojciech Hermeliński in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

- For now, I see a purge, the desire for a purge. This purge has already happened as far as the Supreme Court is concerned. Fortunately, it was blocked by the CJEU. And now there is a continuation of this purge. After all, this gag law, which aims to prevent judges from questioning these flawed compositions, but not only. After all, there is the issue of electing the First President of the Supreme Court. Everything indicates that it is about ensuring that it is our president, from the perspective of the authorities - stated Wojciech Hermeliński in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

- My veiled, subtle, allusive tweet is bothersome? In this radio station, which is an icon of anti-government activity, you have a grievance about some veiled tweet? Meanwhile, if someone attacks Jarosław Kaczyński from that side… - said Witold Waszczykowski in a conversation with Dominika Wielowieyska on TOK FM Radio.

- So, are you doing the same thing as those you criticize?

- Politics is full of mutual barbs, right? But it's not an element of a contempt industry, just minor barbs. Meanwhile, slander is raining down from that side.

- The issue of the justice system is a matter of national regulation. No EU treaty has transferred decisions on justice and its organization to the European level. This is a national domain. Therefore, we have a dispute here over a very fundamental thing, namely what is a matter of national regulation and what is a matter of EU regulation, which is why the Polish government, unfortunately, cannot yield in this case - said Piotr Müller in an interview with Karol Gac on Poranek Siódma9.

Tomorrow, there will be a working breakfast with Chancellor Angela Merkel. These will be European matters concerning the European Union, concerning climate policy, the new EU budget for the next budgetary perspective – said Piotr Müller in an interview with Karol Gac on the Poranek Siódma9 program.

- This is not being considered in electoral terms; rather, the reform of the Polish judiciary is a pressing need. Please note that when it comes to the three branches of power – executive, legislative – they are under social, citizen control. The judiciary has not had such control. And it still doesn't. This is an attempt to change that now. The changes that have been introduced now, precisely, consist of this being the first attempt at this change, and there was a naive belief that the judiciary would reform and heal itself. Please note that for almost 30 years, little or nothing has been done to reform this branch of power, and the social assessment, the citizens' opinion regarding the justice system is unequivocal. All surveys say this: Poles perceive what is happening in the Polish justice system very negatively. In short, Poles say that justice is not served in Poland, and this simply needs to be changed – stated Andrzej Dera in an interview with Marcin Wikło on TVP1's "Political Quarter Hour".

- I hope it will signify new energy and a new opening, that it will signify entering a period… These are not generalities. A new leader, especially one who is very well-perceived by the public, who is one of the faces of the fight against PiS, for instance, on the issue of the judiciary, is a major plus. It's no secret that this could rebuild the image of Civic Platform - stated Marcin Kierwiński in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

- Last week, I was at a meeting with Borys Budka. In fact, I co-organized it myself, as it was a meeting in Warsaw with almost 400 people, and Borys Budka, in response to one of the questions that was asked, perfectly capturing the atmosphere you're referring to, said very clearly: it's not your PESEL number that makes someone young or old. It's not your PESEL that decides how someone is utilized within a political party. No, it must be a sensible combination of the new with the old. The young with the more experienced. Borys Budka will certainly not be guided solely by the belief: you are 30 years old, so you will be in the party's leadership, and if you are 60, you won't be. No, that's not the way forward - stated Marcin Kierwiński in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

- You must invite Chairman Budka and ask him that question [whether the new PO chairman will recommend him for the position of secretary]. I know that positions are the least important in the context of the challenges ahead of us. I know that regardless of what position anyone takes in the new party leadership, we have a very important task to accomplish, namely winning the presidential elections, and that's what we'll focus on. I will certainly cooperate with Borys Budka and I will certainly give him full support in how he leads the party. I have been consistently saying this for several months, that Budka is my candidate, and I am glad he won this election - stated Marcin Kierwiński in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

- I won't be furnishing a cabinet for the new chairman. If you ask me if I have experience in building political structures, Platforma's structures - yes, I do, but any declarations about whether I want to or not, I will only consider when there is a proposal from the chairman, if such a proposal comes - the PO politician continued.

“False, aggressive statements against Poland have been recurring in recent days and weeks. Looking at the anniversaries approaching this year, we can unfortunately assume that we will repeatedly hear false accusations against the Polish state. This is one of the elements of the historical policy pursued by the Russian Federation” – said Michał Dworczyk, Head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on “Trójka Political Salon.”

„The problem is that the Supreme Court resolution aims to undermine the fundamental principles of the state's system. The Prime Minister could not remain indifferent to these actions. The only body competent to examine this is the Constitutional Tribunal. The Supreme Court judges have in fact encroached upon the competencies of the President, the legislative branch, and the Constitutional Tribunal. They have broken the constitution on several points, and therefore the Prime Minister could not be indifferent to such actions” - said Michał Dworczyk, Head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Trójka's Political Salon".

- For a week, we have been demanding information from Prime Minister Morawiecki regarding the situation at the CBA. Today, we repeat our demand, but we go further. We demand a secret session of the Sejm where Prime Minister Morawiecki, as well as his ministers, will explain what was revealed in the TVN Superwizjer report. We demand information about the situation at the CBA, about the practices occurring under the rule of Mr. Wąsik and Mr. Kamiński - stated Marcin Kierwiński at a briefing in the Sejm.

“The European Commission does not have the authority to hold us accountable for the rule of law. There is no definition [of the rule of law] in any legally binding EU document. We disagree with the European Commission regarding prerogatives. I will bring you, madam, the best box of Belgian chocolates if you find a definition of the rule of law in a legally binding document. There isn't one” - said PiS MEP Witold Waszczykowski in an interview with Dominika Wielowieyska on TOK FM Radio's Poranek.

“Ms. von der Leyen is actually staying quiet on this issue [rule of law in Poland], she is not commenting on it. Ms. Vera Jourová is expressing concern. What does that mean? There is no such thing as expressing concern in the legal system. The same goes for the EC spokesperson, who expressed concern. This is a political stance” - he added. 

„I did not invite the Venice Commission [to Poland] because the Venice Commission was invited by Polish NGOs. When we realized that the Venice Commission had decided to come, we asked to organize this visit ourselves, so that the Venice Commission would not focus solely on contacts with the opposition, but also with us” – said PiS MEP Witold Waszczykowski in an interview with Dominika Wielowieyska on TOK FM Radio's Poranek program.

In a democratic state governed by the rule of law, special services must always act in the interest of the state. The difference between the services in Poland is that today the special services act in the interest of a political party. The interests of a party and the state are not always the same. When we observe the political activities of PiS, it is particularly evident. Strangely, after Saturday's report, when we could see the confession of Agent Tomek, the services fell silent. There is no statement from the CBA, the coordinator, or the minister for special services, Mr. Kamiński – stated Cezary Tomczyk at a press briefing in the Sejm. One quote from Minister Kamiński, who is now silent, about Mr. Kaczmarek: Tomasz Kaczmarek, also known as Agent Tomek, is one of the most deserving and distinguished officers of the Polish services, an outstanding officer, his honor and dignity must be defended. Where is Mariusz Kamiński today, who will defend the honor and dignity of Agent Tomek, who directly states that on the orders of Kamiński himself, and Mr. Wąsik, who also heads the Polish services today, he was to destroy Polish politicians on their orders. The system of destroying people, which was visible during PiS's first term, is also visible now. This concerns Ms. Blida, Andrzej Lepper, and finally President Kwaśniewski. Today, we are witnessing firsthand the system of destroying subsequent politicians, people, the system of destroying Marshal Grodzki. When all state services, tools, including television, are used solely to destroy another person, to portray them in a bad light, today Agent Tomek may have told the truth for the first time in his life, but this truth is important. His words should be treated in the category in which we treat the words of repentant gangsters, people who play the role of an accomplice witness. He should be an accomplice witness today because he knows best how the Polish services operated then – the PO politician continued.

"I am very moved and I thank the President and the entire Israeli delegation very much for their presence. I am also glad that so many, as many as over 60 delegations, from countries all over the world will be present, including crowned heads, presidents, prime ministers, many important people from around the world" - said President Andrzej Duda during a press conference with the President of Israel.

"We commemorate the memory of those terrible events. Above all, we honor the memory of the victims of the Holocaust, German, Nazi terror. We discussed with Mr. President the issue of my absence at the recent ceremonies in Jerusalem, at the Yad Vashem Institute, which were organized by Mr. Moshe Kantor's foundation. I once again explained to Mr. President, this time directly, what caused my absence and emphasized that it was extremely regrettable for us and something we could not reconcile with: that the foundation, during the presentations shown, completely omitted Poland's participation, Poles among the Allies in the fight against the Nazi German aggressor, occupier. None other than Polish soldiers, initially defending Poland, and later on virtually all European fronts of World War II, regularly fought against Nazi Germany, capturing Monte Cassino in Italy, General Maczek's soldiers liberated cities in Holland and Belgium" - said President Andrzej Duda during a press conference with the President of Israel.

“With great regret, I noted the complete omission of Polish participation in the great fight against the Nazis, perpetrators of the Holocaust, during the ceremony at Yad Vashem. For this reason alone, I could not be present there as the President of the Republic of Poland, because the Polish contribution to the fight for freedom and the fight against the Holocaust was overlooked” - said President Andrzej Duda during a press conference with the President of Israel.

The Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust is a special, unique, and painful day. A day when 75 years ago the German Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated. Pain can cause change, pain causes suffering, but pain cannot cause us to alter our understanding of facts. Today, I pay tribute to all the victims of this greatest crime in human history. For us Poles, the memory of this crime has exceptional significance. The Holocaust destroyed the entire Jewish world that was formed and developed in our country. The remnants of this world are remembered and commemorated by the POLIN Museum – stated Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska during the observance of the International Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust. We, Poles, have a special duty to remember our Jewish neighbors, acquaintances, friends, to remember their culture. But it is especially important that we remember this unimaginable crime, as a result of which they were exterminated. And we are all aware that in the discussion about the Holocaust, the voice from Poland cannot be absent. It is our duty to remind everyone of what a human being is capable of when driven by hatred towards another person. Totalitarian terror did not arise in an instant; racism and anti-Semitism had been poisoning human minds for a long time. Today, we know well that not reacting to evil causes it to spread with great force. It is also our duty to remind of the truth, the truth. The truth about why World War II broke out, what its consequences were, and who bore the greatest victims in this war. We must remember that its consequence was the Holocaust, but also the extermination of Poles, Roma, and many other nationalities. Falsifying the history of World War II is an insult to the dignity of those who died in it, who gave their lives. It also prevents us from drawing lessons from the past, so as not to commit further crimes and mistakes. For me, as a Warsaw resident, these ceremonies in this place have exceptional significance. Because after all, the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising did not arise for unitary reasons; it erupted in order to defend human dignity, the human being – continued the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm. Let's fight hatred, let's not be indifferent to evil, let's respect and love people. And let's remember what a human being can do to another human being. This memory should be very, very important to us – she emphasized.

President Andrzej Duda has submitted a request to the Constitutional Tribunal, under ex-post review, to examine the compliance of the following provisions with the Constitution: the Code of Civil Procedure, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Act on the Supreme Court – the Chancellery of the President announced.

I. Article 379 point 4 of the Act of November 17, 1964 – Code of Civil Procedure (Journal of Laws of 2019, item 1460, as amended) in the scope concerning the inclusion as a ground for the invalidity of proceedings, the assessment of the independence of the National Judicial Council and the correctness of the procedure preceding the appointment by the President of the Republic, upon the motion of the National Judicial Council, to hold office as a judge of a common court, a judge of a military court, and a judge of the Supreme Court, from Article 179 in conjunction with Article 144 paragraph 3 point 17 and Article 126 paragraph 1 and 2, Article 10, Article 176 paragraph 2, Article 180 paragraph 1, and Article 183 paragraph 1 and 2 of the Constitution,

II. Article 439 § 1 point 2 of the Act of June 6, 1997 – Code of Criminal Procedure (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 30) in the scope concerning the inclusion as grounds for the annulment of the appealed judgment, the assessment of the independence of the National Judicial Council and the correctness of the procedure preceding the appointment by the President of the Republic of Poland, upon the motion of the National Judicial Council, to hold office as a judge of a common court, a judge of a military court, and a judge of the Supreme Court, from Article 179 in conjunction with Article 144 paragraph 3 point 17 and Article 126 paragraph 1 and 2, Article 10, Article 176 paragraph 2, Article 180 paragraph 1, and Article 183 paragraph 1 and 2 of the Constitution,

III. Article 83 § 1 of the Act of December 8, 2017 on the Supreme Court (Journal of Laws of 2019, item 825) in the scope where:
– the subject of the resolution of a legal issue by the Supreme Court is the determination of the ground for establishing the improper composition of the court within the meaning of the provisions of the Act of November 17, 1964 – Code of Civil Procedure and the Act of June 6, 1997 – Code of Criminal Procedure, due to the participation in the court's composition of a person appointed by the President of the Republic of Poland to hold office as a judge of a common court, a judge of a military court, and a judge of the Supreme Court, under the procedure indicated in the resolution of the Supreme Court from Article 179 in conjunction with Article 144 paragraph 3 point 17, Article 10, Article 176 paragraph 2, and Article 180 paragraph 1 and Article 183 paragraph 1 and 2,
– the subject of the resolution of a legal issue by the Supreme Court is the determination of the legal consequences, in relation to judgments issued by the Supreme Court, common courts, and military courts, in the event that a person appointed by the President of the Republic of Poland to hold office as a judge of a common court, a judge of a military court, and a judge of the Supreme Court, under the procedure indicated in the resolution of the Supreme Court from Article 179 in conjunction with Article 144 paragraph 3 point 17, Article 10, Article 176 paragraph 2, Article 180 paragraph 1, and Article 183 paragraph 1 and 2, participates in the court's composition.

"I believe we can build a team [of Civic Platform] that will be accepted by all members of the National Council. This broad team will include everyone who wants to cooperate. I would advise that we focus primarily on work, not on names. For me, the priority is the staff of Kidawa-Błońska, because that is our priority. Mr. Rafał Trzaskowski, Ms. Agnieszka Pomaska, and Mr. Bartosz Arłukowicz are already in the National Board" - said the president-elect of Civic Platform, Borys Budka, in a conversation with journalists in the Sejm. 

- Today we stand here, on the grounds of the former German camp Auschwitz. We stand together and bow our heads to the suffering of the victims of this most terrible crime in history. And in the presence of the Survivors, in the presence of the last Witnesses - we make a commitment for the future - stated President Andrzej Duda during the ceremony of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

"On behalf of the Republic, which was the first to become the target of Nazi Germany's aggression, whose territory came under occupation, and whose nation was subjected to terror, which created the largest underground resistance movement in Europe against the Third Reich, whose soldiers fought against Germany on all fronts of World War II, from its first to its last day, whose six million citizens died at the hands of the Hitlerites, including three million Jews, and which makes every effort to preserve this place: the grounds of the Auschwitz camp - and all other sites of the Holocaust: former German camps located on our lands, I have the privilege and honor to renew the commitment that we, Poles, took upon ourselves even when the Holocaust was taking place, when our predecessors, risking their own lives, brought aid to the murdered Jews, were the first to bring the truth about the Holocaust to the world and demanded a reaction from world statesmen, and in which commitment we, contemporary Poles - also in memory of our heroic countrymen, such as Witold Pilecki and Jan Karski - consistently persevere: to always cherish the memory and guard the truth about what happened here"

- I wish to invite the Distinguished Guests gathered here today, representatives of other states and nations, as well as international institutions and all people of good will around the world - to participate in this endeavor. May it be our common commitment, undertaken in the face of the last Survivors and Witnesses: to carry forward the message and warning for all humanity that flows from this place - stated President Andrzej Duda during the ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

- Falsifying the history of World War II, denying crimes of genocide and negating the Holocaust, as well as the instrumentalization of Auschwitz for any purpose – is desecration of the memory of the victims, whose ashes are scattered here. The truth about the Holocaust must not die. The memory of Auschwitz must endure so that the Holocaust never happens again - PAD continued.

- Once again, I thank you, Esteemed Survivors, for your testimony and your presence here today. Eternal memory to all the victims of Auschwitz! Eternal memory to the victims of the Holocaust! - he concluded.

- The obligation to pursue national interests, in this case, if we are talking about reparations, rests on every responsible government, including the current government. The assessment of these losses has been ongoing for some time, and while I am optimistic regarding dialogue with our neighbor to the west, Germany, on the issue of reparations, it is indeed difficult to have such hopes when it comes to Russia. Germany is a democratic country, and we can have a normal dialogue there; we are together in the EU, and therefore, basic fairness demands that this matter be settled, although of course, these will be very difficult conversations. However, Russia is not a democratic country, and therefore, any expectations of resolving this problem seem unfounded - said Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program 'Gość Wydarzeń' (Guest of Events) on Polsat News.

To my knowledge, a meeting with the Minister of Justice and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Paweł Jabłoński, is scheduled for tomorrow – said Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program “Gość Wydarzeń” on Polsat News. And with the President of the Constitutional Tribunal, Ms. Julia Przyłębska as well? Yes, although I only have knowledge regarding the government administration. I know that other meetings are also planned, including with the President of the Constitutional Tribunal.

- I know this from media reports, but it seems to be verified information that representatives of the National Council of the Judiciary and representatives of the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court requested a meeting, and such a meeting allegedly will not take place. If such a meeting doesn't happen, that wouldn't be good because, when wanting to understand an issue, it's worthwhile to understand all sides of a dispute - said Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program 'Gość Wydarzeń' (Guest of Events) on Polsat News.

- The prosecution, in a sense, has already dealt with the matter, as proceedings are underway regarding the submission of false testimony - Michał Dworczyk stated in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

- There is a motion from the opposition requesting an investigation into the investigation conducted by Agent Tomek - the journalist noted.

- Regarding irregularities concerning this famous villa [the "Kwaśniewski villa"], prosecution proceedings had already taken place and were discontinued, likely in 2014, 2015, or 2016. In any case, it was during the time when Civic Platform, together with the Polish People's Party, formed the parliamentary majority - Dworczyk replied.

„I promise hard work when it comes to Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska's election campaign. We see that we have an abdicating president who cannot act independently, whose voice we don't hear on key issues, and we have Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, a candidate who, in my opinion, is best prepared for this role. This is my first task. To build a professional campaign staff” - said Borys Budka, the president-elect of Civic Platform, on TVN24's "Kropka nad i".

"Perhaps Marshal Terlecki is thinking of putting forward his colleague Marek Suski, about whom it was also said, 'No Dudas, no Tuski, Marek Suski for president'. Perhaps, thinking about this, he is subtly suggesting it to President Kaczyński. This is as credible as all other information being disseminated. Kidawa-Błońska is our presidential candidate" - said the president-elect of Civic Platform, Borys Budka, on 'Kropka nad i' on TVN24.

"I haven't noticed any major missteps [by Kidawa-Błońska]. Sometimes a slip of the tongue happens, but I think what's much more important for Poles is for the president to be empathetic, to try to talk, not to shout, and above all, to be credible" - said Borys Budka, the president-elect of Civic Platform, on TVN24's 'Kropka nad i' (Dot over the i).

- Humanity should look at what led to the creation of concentration camps, that it was xenophobia, racism, hatred, antisemitism. - I had a meeting today with President Rivlin, the President of Israel, and I told him very firmly. Mr. President, this cannot happen. - This decision [not to go to Jerusalem], in my deepest conviction from the very beginning when I made it, was an absolutely objectively justified decision. The Prime Minister of Poland (PMM) in Berlin, at a concert celebrating the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, delivered a speech following Chancellor Angela Merkel. The German Chancellor unequivocally emphasized the responsibility of Germans for the crimes of World War II.

- We oppose the denial and distortion of the history of the Holocaust. We are determined to respond decisively to attempts to exploit the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and the memory of the camp's victims for current political purposes. KL Auschwitz-Birkenau was not the only hell on earth. The second hell was named the Gulag. Both these places deserve special care so that the past serves as a lesson for future generations. As descendants of our grandmothers and grandfathers who perished in Auschwitz and amidst the snows of Kolyma, we have a moral obligation to tell this story to the world. May no one ever have to experience it again. The memory of the victims is an important part of our identity. The Prime Ministers of Germany and Poland stand together in this appeal – united by the conviction of the need to preserve the memory of the difficult chapters of our shared history - stated Morawiecki.

The Prime Minister, who is in Berlin with his wife, also visited the local seat of the Pilecki Institute.
