Thursday's Political Agenda: Second Day of Senate Session, Social Policy Committee on Biejat's Removal, PM Morawiecki at V4-Austria Summit in Prague

At 11:00, the Marshal of the Senate will meet with the Ambassador of Greece. Meanwhile, at 9:00, a meeting of the Sejm's Social Policy Committee will begin, during which changes to the presidium's composition will occur – in practice, this concerns the removal of Magdalena Biejat from the position of chairperson, at the request of PiS. The candidate for the new chairperson will be Urszula Rusecka, the current vice-chairperson of the Sejm committee.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will participate in the Summit of Heads of Government of the Visegrád Group Countries and the Chancellor of the Republic of Austria in Prague. The plenary session is scheduled for 8:35 and 10:05. A joint press conference of the leaders is scheduled for 12:45.

At 11:00, he will visit Huta Stalowa Wola, at 12:40 he will participate in the opening ceremony of the new production and warehouse hall of the Industrial Development Agency S.A., and at 13:00 in the exhibition "From COP to Economy 4.0," accompanied by a presentation of PWG Exhibitors. Later, at 19:00, PAD will visit Opole Lubelskie, where he will meet with residents of the Opole district.

Bodnar on CBA and Prosecutor's Actions Against Grodzki: "They Are Very Unusual"

- I think they are very unusual [the actions of the Central Anticorruption Bureau and the prosecutor's office against Marshal Tomasz Grodzki], because publishing an announcement on a website, then replicating it on social media, statements that aim to search for people who offered financial gain, this is something very unconventional. To be honest, I don't recall this type of announcement being distributed in such a manner, and what's more, that it would concern individuals holding the highest positions in the state – stated Adam Bodnar in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:01

Bodnar:

The Prosecutor's Office is No Longer a Fully Independent Body. In Certain Situations, it Acts on Political Orders

- The Prosecutor's Office is no longer, and I believe I've mentioned this to you, Mr. Editor, several times, a body that is fully independent, a fully responsible guardian of our rights and the rule of law, but in certain situations, it also acts on political orders due to the direct subordination of the Prosecutor General to the Minister of Justice, because it is the same person - stated Adam Bodnar in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:11

Bodnar:

We are not living in a moment where nothing is happening. We face a fundamental, frontal, carpet-bombing attack on the judiciary
- I think that when such acts occur, when there is no other way to demonstrate one's opposition, when the use of the symbol of the toga is necessary, then yes, [a judge] has the right [a citizen's right to demonstrate in a judge's toga] - stated Adam Bodnar in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego". - We are simply not living in a moment where nothing is happening. We face a fundamental, frontal, carpet-bombing attack on the judiciary, which aims to undermine the independence of the entire judiciary, to destroy what can be called its DNA. And now the question arises, how are judges supposed to present their opposition to this? - the Ombudsman continued. - I think in this case they had the right, because we must consider the function of these regulations. The point is not to undermine the dignity of the toga. The dignity of the toga would be undermined if, let's say, during the carnival season, masked balls, a judge took a toga from their office, dressed up as a judge, and had fun in it. That would absolutely be a disciplinary offense. However, when they take it to a demonstration that serves to defend the rule of law and judicial independence, it actually strengthens the dignity of that toga - he stated.

Zandberg on Biejat's Dismissal: PiS Holds Majorities in All Parliamentary Committees. They Can Remove All Chairs in These Committees

PiS has majorities in all parliamentary committees. They can remove all chairs in these committees. I think it's interesting that PiS doesn't mind neoliberals heading committees, politicians from Platforma heading committees, but they do mind a pro-social chair of the social policy committee who fights for higher pensions” - said Adrian Zandberg from Lewica in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

08:55

Zandberg on Biedroń: He's One of Those People Who Want to and Know How to Fight

„As much as I've gotten to know Robert Biedroń, and I got to know him quite well during the parliamentary campaign. He's one of those people who want to and know how to fight. They fight for it and bite the grass,” said Adrian Zandberg of The Left in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

Lichocka on Grodzki: The Only Honorable Exit for the Marshal is Resignation

- This is a defense through attack [Suing journalists by the Senate Marshal]. Instead of explaining the situation, Grodzki flees press conferences, insults journalists. This is an attempt to silence, to block information, which will not succeed - stated Joanna Lichocka in an interview with Michał Rachoń on TVP Info's "Jedziemy".

- The only honorable exit for the Marshal is resignation, because he himself is not capable of honestly facing these accusations - the PiS MP continued.

09:18

Lichocka:

Many Young People Don't Remember Those Times, Nor the Faces That Supported Moscow's Rule in Poland and Now Speak of Rule of Law Violations

- A hollow laugh overcomes me when I hear such performances [by the opposition during yesterday's EP debate] - stated Joanna Lichocka in an interview with Michał Rachoń on TVP Info's program "Jedziemy". - Former communist activists, pure PZPR, I would say, genetically encoded in their DNA, now present themselves as democratic, freedom-loving forces that care about the rule of law - she continued.

This is simply a charade calculated on the assumption that Poles will not remember. There are many young people who do not remember those times. They do not remember the same figures, the same faces, that then represented Moscow's rule in Poland, and now speak of rule of law violations - added the PiS MP.

- The extent of the lie in the EU, which we saw yesterday during this debate, worries me greatly. Prime Minister Szydło said that she does not assume ill will on the part of the debate participants, but she sees how far the manipulation has gone, how much they have been misled by opposition forces, by W. Cimoszewicz, among others - stated Lichocka.

Spychalski on EP Debate: 'These Images That Went Global Are Not Good, Not Needed'

These images that went global are not good, not needed. Above all, this debate was unnecessary. I believe it was a mistake that it took place. Everything is fine in Poland, we have no problems with the rule of law,” said the President's spokesperson, Błażej Spychalski, in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News.

09:38

Spychalski:

Kidawa-Błońska Attempted to Leverage Putin's Attack in Election Campaign. Unnecessary, It Should Not Have Happened

"I would like Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska to set aside campaign elements and not attempt to wield such arguments. President Vladimir Putin's attack on Poland, and Marshal Kidawa-Błońska tried to use this attack in her election campaign. It's unnecessary, it should not have happened," said the President's spokesperson, Błażej Spychalski, in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News.

Błaszczak:

I am convinced that this month we will sign an agreement with the USA on the purchase of 32 F-35 aircraft

- We have essentially finalized the negotiations. Only minor procedural matters remain. I am convinced that in January, still this month, we will sign an agreement with the USA on the purchase of 32 F-35 aircraft, which are the most modern aircraft in the world – stated Mariusz Błaszczak in an interview with Beata Michniewicz on "Salon Polityczny Trójki".

Morawiecki in Prague: Russia Revisits Stalinist History; Poland Will Resist

- We are here also to commemorate the death of Jan Palach. It was a protest against the invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pact troops, de facto Soviet troops, Soviet Russia, against attempts at democratization. We in Poland also remember that Ryszard Siwiec also committed self-immolation on September 8th in protest against the invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pact troops. Ryszard Siwiec died a few days after this act of self-immolation. He performed it at the 10th-Anniversary Stadium in the presence of the highest officials of the communist state, the Polish United Workers' Party, and in the presence of nearly 100,000 attendees of the harvest festival at the 10th-Anniversary Stadium - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Prague, during the summit of heads of government of the Visegrad Group countries and the Chancellor of Austria.

These acts of self-immolation, as well as others that took place in Budapest, Kyiv, and others in Prague, remind us of the fates of the Warsaw Pact countries, the Soviet bloc countries. They also remind us of what Maria Dąbrowska, a very famous writer, recorded in her diaries in such a characteristic way: that today there were Germans here, and in the evening we were under Bolshevik occupation.

These are the tragic fates of Poland after World War II, when we could get rid of the terrible, murderous German occupation, but immediately afterward the occupation by Soviet Russia began, and let the death of Jan Palach, Ryszard Siwiec, Jan Zajic, and many others remind us of the great sacrifice with which Poles, Czechs, and Hungarians fought against Soviet occupation after World War II, and our actions, of course, Polish solidarity, led to us having freedom, democracy, and the rule of law today.

It is sad that the Russian authorities are not only replicating gestures that took place after World War II, but are also sometimes trying to recreate the Stalinist version of history. We will certainly strongly oppose this. We know who was on the side of freedom.

Such were the times at the end of World War II; Poland was liberated with the crucial support of the Red Army at the time, but we also know the fate of the Home Army soldiers, who were then murdered, imprisoned, deported to Siberia, and deported to labor camps, and not only can we not forget this, but this is the true history of Poland after World War II.

Civic Coalition Calls on Sejm Speaker for Prosecutor General's Report on Paweł Adamowicz Murder Investigation. 'What Happened a Year Ago Was a Public Execution'

A year has passed since the murder of President Paweł Adamowicz. A political assassination that has not yet been fully explained. Recently, we have been receiving further information about the protracted proceedings, the questioning of more witnesses, and, unfortunately, the public is receiving conflicting news on this matter. Contrary to the promises made immediately after this tragic event, that everyone would receive full information about potential failures of state bodies and opportunities to prevent this terrible crime, the public still lacks complete information regarding the possible cooperation of the prison service, the police, and the possibilities of securing against this incident. One cannot remain without adequate knowledge in this situation. The Civic Coalition's parliamentary group is appealing to the Marshal of the Sejm to include the Prosecutor General's information on the details of this investigation at the next session

– said the head of the Civic Coalition's parliamentary group, Borys Budka, at a press conference in the Sejm.

What happened a year ago undoubtedly constituted a public execution. This public execution was preceded by a whole series of attacks, insults directed at my brother. Nothing has changed after this tragedy. Hate speech and insults have returned, orchestrated by public media. President Dulkiewicz, the city of Gdańsk itself, began to experience this. Quite recently, Professor Grodzki became the target of attacks

– added Piotr Adamowicz from the Civic Coalition.

Grodzki on the Venice Commission's Opinion: It Will Make the Discussion Richer and More Interesting, Allowing Us to Make Objective Final Decisions

We thank the commission for approaching this issue, which is important for our country, so seriously. First and foremost, in line with transparency, we have posted it on the Senate’s website, but it is most important for me that the senators familiarize themselves with it first. After a few smaller, quicker bills that will be discussed, we are resuming deliberations on judicial bills. The discussion will be even richer and more interesting, and it will allow us to make objective final decisions” – said Marshal Tomasz Grodzki in the Senate.

Ahead of Yad Vashem Visit, Nancy Pelosi to Land in Poland, Visit Former German Concentration Camp Auschwitz-Birkenau and Meet with Marshal Witek - NEWS 300POLITYKI
On her way to the Fifth World Holocaust Forum conference, which will begin on January 23 in Jerusalem, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will make a stop in Poland, where she will visit the site of the former German extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in the company of Marshal of the Sejm Elżbieta Witek - 300POLITYKA has learned. Sources for 300POLITYKA indicate that since issues related to commemorating the crimes of the Holocaust are bipartisan in the USA, it is possible that Pelosi's brief visit may also be accompanied by the Marshal of the Senate Tomasz Grodzki - in addition to the Marshal of the Sejm - but according to our sources, this is not yet entirely certain. Perhaps Pelosi's visit to Auschwitz, accompanied by the second-highest-ranking official in the country, shortly before an event in Jerusalem that is causing considerable controversy in our country, will be interpreted as a signal that the USA is making it understood that they are considering Polish historical sensitivities in light of recent statements by the President of Russia. Pelosi will participate in the Yad Vashem conference alongside U.S. Vice President Mike Pence. This was confirmed by the White House yesterday, and Israel's Haaretz writes that immediately after their visit to Israel, Pence and his wife Karen will visit Pope Francis at the Vatican.

Seweryński on the Venice Commission's Opinion: Astonishing, Outrageous. The Recommendations Are Unacceptable to Us

We have reviewed the conclusions [of the Venice Commission] concerning our justice system reforms. It is, in fact, an astonishing opinion. I can say, perhaps risking it, that it is even outrageous. We are called upon in this opinion, it is recommended that we abandon all the reforms we have carried out so far, that we return to the state that existed before. For us, such recommendations are unacceptable” - stated Michał Seweryński from PiS at a press conference in the Senate.

Referring to the popular description of our law as a muzzle law, I can say that this is a muzzle opinion. It is an opinion that incapacitates the sovereign Polish parliament in carrying out reforms, the subject matter of which is intended precisely for implementation by national parliaments. The questioning of the Constitutional Tribunal's ruling [concerning the National Council of the Judiciary] is scandalous. The categorical tone of this opinion, which even recommends specific steps to us, is also scandalous. This is not an opinion. It is, in reality, a directive” - added Marek Pęk from PiS.

Budka Appeals to President and Prime Minister After Venice Commission Opinion: Don't Jeopardize Poles' Safety, Reject This Bad and Harmful Law
“This opinion illustrates what the opposition, Civic Coalition, has been saying from the very beginning. There has been no reform of the judiciary in Poland since PiS came to power, nor is there one now. The gag law does not solve any significant problem in the judiciary; it is merely a continuation of the fight against the independent judiciary and an attempt to politicize the judiciary and subordinate it to the Minister of Justice,” said Borys Budka, chairman of the Civic Coalition parliamentary group, at a press conference in the Sejm.

“At this point, we must join the conclusions of the opinion and appeal for the rejection of this harmful law, which is inconsistent with the constitution and European law. I believe that the Senate will do so in the upcoming vote, but that later the government will come to its senses and will not want to enter into conflict with the European Union, and will also support the motion to reject this harmful law. I appeal from here to Prime Minister Morawiecki and President Duda not to jeopardize the safety of Polish women and men and to decide to reject this bad and harmful law,” he added.

PMM:

We Need Highly Competitive Industries Capable of Global Sales; Wise International Agreements with the US and China are Essential

- A meeting in this format makes sense because today I became convinced that the Chancellor and I, and Austria, have many more common denominators, many more common goals than might seem. It's worth starting with what is most important for people, namely economic growth, which translates into the quality of life for societies and people. This economic growth is, after all, directly dependent on the competitiveness of our economies, and therefore this topic we discussed, the competitiveness of the EU in industrial policy, in relation to international trade, is truly crucial for Poland, as well as for Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. I also think it is crucial for our partners from Western Europe, but the fact that today we practically spoke in one voice about how to increase the competitiveness of the entire EU is, I believe, a huge achievement, because the EU in its original form and today is primarily meant to strengthen economic growth and improve the lives of people and societies. In relation to global problems, we devoted a lot of time to the topic of international trade - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Prague.

- We must have highly competitive industries, sectors that are capable of selling their goods and services worldwide. For this, we need wise international agreements with the USA or China. These agreements must also cover areas such as taxes, taxes that can also simultaneously serve the budgets of countries like the Visegrad Group or Austria. I have in mind, for example, a digital tax, regarding which we are eagerly awaiting a decision on what will be agreed at the European Commission level, and we want to strongly advocate for this tax as a source of revenue, either for the entire EU or for individual member states. This is, of course, a future decision - PMM continued to say.

Ziobro on Venice Commission Opinion: A Farce and a Tragicomedy

"Information has emerged regarding a document [the Venice Commission's opinion], which can be described as a parody of a Venice Commission opinion. It is difficult to treat this document seriously and formally, given the substantive content that can be found within it. The category of a farce or a tragicomedy, which is associated with what can be read there, perhaps best fits the description if someone were to undertake the ambitious task of substantively evaluating what can be found there" - said Minister Zbigniew Ziobro at a press conference.

Biejat to Rusecka: Social Policy Committee Met 10 Times. I Understand That If You Want to Recall Someone for Inactivity, You'll Announce the Recall of Suski, Whose Committee Met Once Last Year and Twice This Year

- The Committee on Social Policy and Family has met a total of 10 times. I understand that if you want to recall someone for inactivity, you will also announce the recall of Mr. Suski, whose committee met only once last year and only twice this year - said Magdalena Biejat in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Wydarzenia i Opinie" on Polsat News.

20:02

Biejat Asked Why The Left Doesn't Want Another Commission: We Are Not Entering Into Any Bargains. Parliamentary Courtesy Has Been Broken
We are not entering into any bargains. Parliamentary courtesy has been broken. We agreed on something. You are raising arguments that you didn't know me, that you didn't know who I was. Well, I'm very sorry, I am a representative of the Left. We did not hide our program - said Magdalena Biejat in a conversation with Dorota Gawryluk in the program "Wydarzenia i Opinie" on Polsat News, addressing Urszula Rusecka.

20:08

Biejat on Opposition MPs' Reaction to EP Vote: 'I Wouldn't Applaud. I Absolutely Believe Polish Citizens Shouldn't Be Punished for PiS Breaking Democratic Standards'

- I wouldn't applaud. I also absolutely believe that Polish citizens shouldn't be punished because PiS is breaking democratic standards and European rule of law standards, which we all agreed to by signing relevant treaties – stated Magdalena Biejat in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Wydarzenia i Opinie" (Events and Opinions) on Polsat News.

20:14

Rusecka:

We were accustomed to a rapid pace of work in this committee. The chairwoman convened the first presidium after perhaps five or six weeks.

- We were accustomed to a rapid pace of work in this committee. In the previous term, essentially right after its establishment, the presidium meeting took place almost on the same day. The chairwoman convened the first presidium after perhaps five or six weeks - Urszula Rusecka said in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program “Wydarzenia u Opinie” on Polsat News.

- Ms. Biejat had those six weeks to run around the media, to talk about what she wanted to do, and in reality, it didn't reflect the facts - Rusecka added.

20:15

Kidawa-Błońska:

I Have Faith in Myself, I Know Why I Want to Be President, I Know How to Win Elections, and I Am Determined. The Campaign is Proceeding at the Pace I Want It To
- I have faith in myself, I know why I want to be president, I know how to win elections, and I am determined. The campaign is proceeding at the pace I want it to. In December, I traveled 7,000 kilometers, and now I am preparing a new stage of the campaign. I am constantly somewhere - Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska said on Kropka nad I.

20:15

Kidawa-Błońska:

If the President Respected Them, He Would Talk to Poles, Not Just Take Selfies. There's No Dialogue or Conversation.
- Poles want to feel respected, that they are respected by those in power. If the President respected them, he would talk to Poles, not just take selfies with them. I'm talking about serious conversation and seeking solutions with all communities. There's no dialogue or conversation. Taking photos with people is not enough - said Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska in Kropka nad I.

20:15

Kidawa-Błońska:

We are part of Europe, and if there's a helpline, when facing a problem we can't solve, we call and listen to wiser, more experienced people on how to overcome it.
- Some Poles certainly believe we shouldn't discuss Polish matters beyond our borders. We are part of Europe, and if there's a helpline, meaning if we face a problem we can't handle, we call and listen to wiser, more experienced individuals on how to resolve it. The Union extends a friendly hand to us - said Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska on Kropka nad I. - They persist because they are afraid to admit mistakes and fear losing power, which will happen sooner or later - Kidawa continued.

20:21

Rusecka:

Lewica Broke Good Practice in the EU Committee. They Didn't Vote for the Candidate Agreed Upon by Inter-Club Accord

- I will not hide it, we had to 'grit our teeth' because certain decisions were also not to our liking. We discussed, even in the corridors, about Marshal Czarzasty. Among our MPs, there are many people who suffered during the previous regime. And it was truly difficult for them to vote for Marshal Czarzasty, who joined the PZPR at a time when most decent people were leaving it. This was already after the pacification of Wujek. But, respecting these agreements, they voted. Now I also want to refer to this unfair assessment by the chairperson, or rather perhaps by Mr. Czarzasty in the committee, because it was Lewica that broke good practice in the European Union committee. Please check what the arrangements were, and they did not vote for the candidate who was agreed upon by inter-club accord - said Urszula Rusecka in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Wydarzenia u Opinie" on Polsat News.

20:26

Kidawa-Błońska on the State Tribunal for PAD: Every politician who broke the constitution should be held accountable, especially if they are meant to be its guardian
- The Sejm will make such a decision, the president takes an oath on the Constitution. Every politician who broke the constitution should be held accountable, especially if they are meant to be its guardian. The President is co-responsible for what happens in Poland - said Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska on Kropka nad I.

20:26

Zandberg:

In PAD's place, I wouldn't be so sure of re-election; social polls suggest he shouldn't sleep soundly after all
In Andrzej Duda's place, I wouldn't be so sure of re-election, because when you look at social polls, contrary to appearances, these polls do not indicate that Andrzej Duda should sleep soundly. There will be very close competition on the opposition's side, competition over who will make it to the second round. I think much will depend, of course, on the election campaign – stated Adrian Zandberg in an interview with Justyna Pochanke on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:28

Kidawa-Błońska on Jerusalem Conference: The Polish President Should Have Been There; It's a Scandal His Diplomatic Services Couldn't Organize It. The President Should Be Speaking Now, But He's Silent
- The Polish President should have been there; it's a scandal that his diplomatic services couldn't organize it. The President should be speaking now, but he's silent - said Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska on Kropka nad I.

20:32

Kidawa-Błońska on accusations against Marshal Grodzki: Let's stop listening and believing these lies, because then PiS will be left alone with these lies. Let's stop believing this, because we will stop trusting each other.
- Let's stop listening and believing these lies, because then PiS will be left alone with these lies. Let's stop believing this, because we will stop trusting each other. You can destroy any person who has different views that do not suit PiS in this way - said Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska on Kropka nad I.

20:33

Kidawa-Błońska on Hołownia's Words: "Someone Who Says Embryos Cannot Be Frozen Actually Wants to Abolish IVF"
"Someone who says embryos cannot be frozen actually wants to abolish IVF" - Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska stated on Kropka nad I when asked about Szymon Hołownia's words.

20:34

Kidawa-Błońska on potential troop withdrawal: We are NATO members and the decision on whether to withdraw troops must be made jointly
- The safety of our soldiers is very important, the most important, but we are NATO members and the decision on whether to withdraw troops must be made jointly - said Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska on Kropka nad I.

20:39

Kaczyński:

So that this new attack on our sovereignty and independence is repelled

- My mother's generation, and she herself, had to live through difficult times. One of the last words she spoke before her death, very shortly before her death, was that her generation was unlucky. Indeed, it was unlucky. She had to live through the war, an extremely difficult post-war period. Her generation had to live through communism, and only in the last part of her life did free Poland come. This longed-for free Poland. But we must remember that it is precisely to this generation that we owe its coming. We owe its endurance, we owe the endurance of all that constitutes Poland in the spiritual sphere, in the sphere of consciousness. We owe the memory and durability of a certain tradition. A tradition that essentially comes down to one thing: We Poles deserve our own state, an independent state, a sovereign state, a democratic state, a state that is an organization of the Polish community. And today again, in this beautiful but not easy time, we must remember this. This is something that connects the era of that generation, the majority of which, the vast majority, has already passed on, with today's time, with all that we are doing today to make Poland better. We are also doing this to make Poland sovereign and independent, so that this new attack on our sovereignty and independence is repelled - said Jarosław Kaczyński in Starachowice.

20:41

Kidawa-Błońska:

How Can the Venice Commission's Visit Be Illegal? It's an EU Body, We're EU Members, We're in Europe, and the Commission Has the Right to Be in Poland and Discuss Poland's Legal System and This Law
- How can the Venice Commission's visit be illegal? It's an EU body, we're members of the Union, we're in Europe, and the Commission has the right to be in Poland and has the right to discuss Poland's legal system and this law. This is another visit, these are the most outstanding lawyers, they know the provisions of Polish laws and they know European law – stated Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska on Kropka nad I.

20:44

Kidawa-Błońska:

My Impression is that the European Parliament and the European Commission Say: 'Poland, You Are in Europe and We Want You to Be,' While PiS Says: 'We Don't Care, We Don't Care'
- My impression is that the European Parliament and the European Commission say: 'Poland, you are in Europe and we want you to be,' while PiS says: 'We don't care, we don't care, we're not interested. We are where we are and we're not interested in anything more.' I was ashamed watching yesterday's debate, because you cannot build a country's image with shouting and lies, nor will you convince anyone – said Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska on Kropka nad I.

President Duda: Some Judges Seem to Think They Are Gods Due to Unlimited Power Over People

The justice system needs to be fixed. It cannot be the case that people say the courts are unjust, that they are not functioning well, and that justice cannot be found in court. Some, and I emphasize some, because absolutely not all, judges seem to think they are gods because they have unlimited power over people when they stand before the court. It is exactly the opposite and entirely different. Judges are servants of the Republic and the Polish nation, servants. Just as we are also servants of the Republic and Polish society. I too am a servant of the Polish nation and the Republic” - said President Andrzej Duda in Opole Lubelskie.

21:35

President Duda: Judges Hold a Significant Part of State Power, But Their Verdicts Serve the Republic, Not Personal Whims

“Judges are entrusted with a significant part of state power, but they deliver judgments in court not according to their whims or moods, but in the name of the Republic of Poland, and they must never forget this. They deliver judgments in the name of the Republic of Poland. This is how every court ruling begins. This entails duties, but above all, responsibility – for conducting Polish affairs in a way that serves the citizens and the Republic. This is their fundamental obligation,” said President Andrzej Duda in Opole Lubelskie.

21:37

President Duda: "A group of judges has forgotten their real role; I hope those who don't belong in the judiciary will simply leave"

"There is a group of judges who have forgotten their real role, to whom they serve, and why they were appointed to their judicial offices. I hope that slowly, consistently, and calmly we will manage to repair the judiciary, and those who should not be in it will simply and ordinarily leave. That would be best for the Polish judiciary and for the Republic"

- said President Andrzej Duda in Opole Lubelskie.
