At 12:00 PM, in the Presidential Palace, President Andrzej Duda and his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda will participate in a New Year's meeting with representatives of churches and religious unions, as well as national and ethnic minorities present in Poland.

At 4:00 PM, the Senate Legislative Committee and the Committee on Human Rights, Rule of Law, and Petitions will resume deliberations on the so-called judge discipline bill. The Senate session begins tomorrow, with this bill being the first item on the agenda. If the upper house rejects the PiS proposal or introduces amendments, the Sejm will address them during its session next week, on January 22-23.

Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz will be in Mazovia. The PSL leader will meet with volunteers in Warsaw at 12:00 PM and with residents of Celestynów at 3:30 PM.

At 10:00 AM, a press conference will be held in Warsaw by MPs and activists from the Together Party (Partia Razem) and social activists concerning the fare increases for Koleje Mazowieckie (Mazovian Railways). - The conference will precede the submission of a letter to Marshal Struzik, in which we demand answers to the questions: how high will the fare increases be, which will affect thousands of Mazovia residents commuting to work daily? Why is the introduction of the increases being done in a non-transparent manner? When will residents find out about these changes? - the organizers announce.

- The best one was chosen. I believe Robert Biedroń is an excellent candidate for the Left today. Several [candidates] were in play. I think, in reality, three were in play. There was Gabriela Morawska-Stanecka, Adrian Zandberg, and Robert Biedroń. You need 115 signatures. PSL politicians have started signing, unfortunately, we are still missing signatures from Civic Platform and PiS. It is not normal for laws to be presented by MPs. It has become the ordinary procedure for the ruling party that the party itself does not present its projects, but individual MPs do. We all know in Poland that this shortens the legislative path to a minimum. I would like to question this way of operating as a rule, a principle, because that's how it looks in our country at the moment, that it is the rule. There are no laws presented by the ruling majority that could be subject to discussion - stated Małgorzata Gersdorf in the Senate, during a meeting of the rule of law team.

- In Poland, we have three readings of these laws, but they are simply ridiculed. A law is processed in committee, let's say for 12 hours into the night. Afterwards, the second and third readings take place immediately. The legislator did not decree that there should be three readings for these readings to happen one after another, without discussion, because that contradicts the idea of parliamentary discussion - the First President of the Supreme Court continued.

This law amending the act on the Supreme Court, I am referring mostly to the SC, is connected with the amendment that was submitted, i.e., parliamentary print [number] 69, it is a law that is dangerous for all of us, citizens, regardless of worldview and beliefs. Because we must constantly remind that there are no free citizens without independent courts and impartial judges. And we cannot get this simple thesis across to the citizens. There is no understanding that if a judge is dependent on any authority, whatever it may be, at a lower level, at a high level, then their judgments will be rendered to please that authority. There is no fair state without a parliamentary debate on these solutions. In Poland, it is not the judges who are anarchizing the state, but the authorities who establish laws in this way. The reform of the judiciary concerning the SC has been undertaken twice. It did not succeed. Thanks to this, I can still appear before you, but it required great determination from all judges, the SC, a bit from me, as well as from the EU judges, who all supported us – stated Małgorzata Gersdorf in the Senate, during the sitting of the team for the rule of law.

“We are trying to proceed as cautiously as possible at the moment and have prepared a plenary discussion that will take place tomorrow. That is why we went to a meeting with President Jourová. We have also invited the Venice Commission and are awaiting their opinion. We have sought many written opinions from both Polish and international experts, and we organized today's consultations. We want to be well prepared for the final discussions,” said the Marshal of the Senate, Tomasz Grodzki, during consultations on the disciplinary bill. 

The honorable title of judge has been tarnished by the words of a former prosecutor and PZPR member regarding the subservient mentality desired by the authorities from judges. This stuck with me deeply because this prosecutor, a member of the authorities, is currently a judge of the Constitutional Tribunal. This doesn't bode well, as perhaps he also possesses this subservient mentality. We are currently in a situation where nothing is what it seems anymore. The Constitutional Tribunal is not the Constitutional Tribunal in Poland. The National Council of the Judiciary is not the one the Constitution speaks of and it does not stand guard over the impartiality and independence of judges, which is its reason for being. In a short while, courts will not be courts, and the Supreme Court will not be the Supreme Court. This law, looking at it from a bird's-eye view, shuts our mouths, and the Supreme Court will at best be able to rule on divorces, because nothing else will remain for it. Neither the offering of opinions on acts, nor questioning appointments, nor questioning the National Council of the Judiciary, because for everything, a penalty could be imposed on judges, a disciplinary penalty, meaning the end of the independent judiciary - stated Małgorzata Gersdorf in the Senate, during a meeting of the Rule of Law team.

Lies repeated by the authorities many times, that judges are a caste, communists, thieves, do not become truth and cannot become truth. As free citizens, we do not want to live in such an authoritarian state, and we must oppose this, and above all, explain to society that this leads to nothing. This is not an anarchization of law by judges, but rather a desperate attempt to explain to citizens that their rights, their civic rights, will be violated or will disappear altogether, and that is why we oppose this law in general. As for the details, I refer you to the Supreme Court's opinion - stated Małgorzata Gersdorf in the Senate, during a meeting of the rule of law team.

- My candidacy will be overlooked and ignored, polls will inflate the two candidates from the largest parties, which is why we must work ten times harder than they do. It was Andrzej Duda who proved how those who dismissed the beginnings of his campaign and called it a waste of time ended up - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a meeting with volunteers at the PSL headquarters on Piękna Street. - Voters have a real choice in these elections, there is no longer a need to vote for the lesser of two evils - said WKK. Today marks the start of Kosiniak's tour as part of the 'Team' campaign. „The Supreme Audit Office (NIK) is an independent institution. Regarding President Banaś, in reality, the largest opposition party – Civic Platform (PO) – did not want to solve this problem together with Law and Justice (PiS), and there was such a possibility, because we presented various concepts for changing the legal environment, for changing constitutional regulations. The opposition immediately rejected such a proposal. Prosecution activities are underway. The situation is being analyzed from a legal standpoint” – said Krzysztof Kubów, head of the Prime Minister's political cabinet, on Radio Wrocław.

"For the sake of clarity, in my assessment, [Marshal Grodzki] should resign from his position until these allegations from patients are clarified, as they are increasingly coming forward and reporting that such practices took place. I don't want to judge him. That is the role of the prosecution, the Central Anticorruption Bureau, which are conducting the investigation. Mr. Grodzki should consider the important position he holds. Upon taking this office, he should have been aware that the Marshal of the Senate must be a person of impeccable character" - said Krzysztof Kubów, head of the Prime Minister's Political Cabinet, in an interview with Radio Wrocław.

- The Marshal of the Sejm should call elections as soon as possible; she can do it as early as January 6th. We all want to start the discussion between candidates as quickly as possible – said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a meeting with residents of Celestynów.

- The President should be a guarantor of normal interpersonal relations. We can have differences, but we must have someone who unites environments, and for 15 years, we've had presidents from two political camps - said Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a meeting with residents of Celestynów.

The European Commission has initiated proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) seeking interim measures concerning the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court of Poland. This action stems from ongoing concerns regarding the rule of law and judicial independence in Poland.

Details of the Commission's request and the specific interim measures sought are expected to be made public following their submission to the Court. The Disciplinary Chamber has been a focal point of criticism from the European Union and various international bodies due to its perceived lack of independence and its role in disciplinary proceedings against Polish judges.

This move by the European Commission underscores the continued tension between Poland and the EU over judicial reforms, with the Commission seeking to enforce EU law and uphold fundamental European values. The CJEU's decision on the interim measures will be a significant development in this ongoing dispute.

The spokesperson for the Polish government, Piotr Müller, commented on the European Commission's disciplinary action and request regarding the Polish judicial system. He stated that the procedure concerns a complaint filed in October 2019.

Müller emphasized that the Polish government consistently maintains its position that the implemented judicial reforms are fully compliant with European Union law. He assured that the government continues to present arguments to this effect.
