Wednesday's Political Agenda: Grodzki in Brussels, Sejm Debates Budget, 13th Pension, and Public Media Compensation, Senate Committee on Judges' Discipline Act, PM Morawiecki in Berlin

Senate Marshal Tomasz Grodzki is heading to Brussels, where he will meet with, among others, the Vice-President of the European Commission, Věra Jourová. A key topic of discussion is expected to be the so-called judges' discipline act, on which the Senate is commencing work. Meanwhile, at 12:00 PM, two Senate committees: the Legislative Committee and the Committee on Human Rights, Rule of Law, and Petitions, will consider the aforementioned judges' discipline act.

The first Sejm session of the year will begin at 10:00 AM with the first reading of the government's draft act on an additional annual monetary benefit for pensioners and annuitants, effectively the 13th pension. At 12:45 PM, the first reading of the bill concerning compensation for public media, submitted by the Law and Justice (PiS) party, will take place. From 2:05 PM onwards, the first reading of the 2020 budget bill is scheduled. The debate on this matter is planned to last until 9:00 PM.

Also today, at 10:30 PM, the second reading of the bill regarding compensation for public media will occur. Earlier, at 5:00 PM, the Sejm Culture and Media Committee will convene on this matter. This pace suggests a likely adoption of the PiS proposal in tomorrow's afternoon voting block.

At 4:00 PM, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will participate in the Welt Economic Summit in Berlin. Following the event, a statement to the media by the head of government is planned.

At 12:00 PM, President Andrzej Duda will present state decorations to individuals who have saved human lives at the Presidential Palace. At 3:00 PM, in Belvedere, President Duda will present Major General Wiesław Kukuła with an act of appointment for a renewed term as Commander of the Territorial Defence Forces. At 5:00 PM, along with his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda, he will attend a holiday and New Year's meeting with representatives of the Jewish community in Poland.

"Deputy Marshal Kidawa-Błońska announces that she will present a draft resolution in the Sejm regarding Russian historical lies. The Deputy Marshal should know that work on the resolution is underway in the Foreign Affairs Committee, and its conclusion is planned for Wednesday. Every MP can participate," wrote Ryszard Terlecki on Twitter. Earlier, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska announced that at the upcoming Sejm session, she would present a draft resolution concerning Russian propaganda slandering Poland.

Also today, the Chamber of Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs of the Supreme Court will consider legal questions regarding the examination of the independence of the National Council of the Judiciary. The case was originally scheduled for December, just before the holidays, but the National Prosecutor's Office submitted its position, leading to a decision to postpone to allow parties to respond. Furthermore, at the beginning of the Senate's session, the majority is expected to present a draft bill concerning changes to the National Council of the Judiciary and the Supreme Court.

10:00 AM - Commencement of the Sejm session and first reading of the bill concerning the 13th pension.
12:00 PM - Consideration of the judges' discipline act by Senate committees.
12:00 PM - Ceremony of President Andrzej Duda presenting state decorations to individuals who have saved human lives.
12:45 PM - First reading of the bill concerning compensation for public media.
2:05 PM - First reading of the 2020 budget bill.
3:00 PM - President Andrzej Duda presenting the act of appointment for the Territorial Defence Forces Commander.
4:00 PM - Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's participation in the Welt Economic Summit in Berlin.
5:00 PM - Sejm Culture and Media Committee meeting regarding the bill on compensation for public media.
5:00 PM - Holiday and New Year's meeting of the Presidential Couple with representatives of the Jewish community in Poland.
10:30 PM - Second reading of the bill concerning compensation for public media.

Sienkiewicz:

The US President Holds the Key to the Response to the Response

- We are certainly in a situation of such uncertainty that making any definitive statements is irresponsible. Iran responded to the shelling of American bases with the death of General Soleimani, and now, effectively, the US President holds the key to what the response to the response will be - stated Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

- Now the question is what the scale of the American response will be. We really have two scenarios. One is a fading response, meaning there is a response, but it's smaller, weaker and weaker, until eventually some kind of modus vivendi. And the second scenario is responses whose intensity grows, becoming stronger and stronger - he continued.

Błaszczak:

No Polish Soldiers in Iraq Injured in Missile Attacks on Al Asad and Irbil Bases

The Polish Minister of National Defence, Mariusz Błaszczak, has stated that no Polish soldiers stationed in Iraq were harmed as a result of the missile attacks on the Al Asad and Irbil bases. He conveyed this information via Twitter.

The confirmation comes amidst heightened regional tensions following recent events in the Middle East. The bases targeted are known to host coalition forces, including Polish military personnel participating in international missions.

Minister Błaszczak's statement, disseminated through his official Twitter account (https://twitter.com/mblaszczak/status/1214792636772556800), reassures the public and the families of deployed soldiers about the safety of the Polish contingent.

Further details regarding the specific situation of the Polish forces and their operational status are expected to be released through official channels.

08:11

Sienkiewicz:

Leaving Coalition Forces in Iraq Seems Entirely Unnecessary
In Poland's situation and in Poland's once very good international relations, one principle applied. Never alone. And it is the same with the Polish contingent in Iraq and the withdrawal of coalition forces from Iraq. The effectiveness of this evacuation can only be achieved when we act with our other allies. And planning these actions, joint decision-making, and besides that, diplomacy is for the purpose of working beforehand, regardless of these official forums, to develop a certain position: listen, we should probably leave there, we are happy that you have the same opinion, so let's bring it up at the NATO summit or another NATO forum that we probably need to talk to our friends from the USA about this. It seems to me absolutely yes [we should leave there]. Meaning, leaving coalition forces there seems entirely unnecessary – stated Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:53

Müller:

No Decisions Made Regarding Changes to Soldier Contingent

"No decisions have been made regarding changes to the soldier contingent or withdrawals," said government spokesman Piotr Müller on Radio Jedynka.

"At this moment, the Polish government's stance is to de-escalate issues related to Middle East policy. We, like everyone else, are concerned about not escalating this conflict. We are approaching this in a balanced manner," he added.

09:04

Czaputowicz:

I read yesterday that Grodzki wanted to call me to consult about his trip to Brussels, but I would prefer him to consult before making a decision, not when he's already packing.

- My assessment is negative. This dispute continues, and it also relates to that meeting known to have occurred with the Russian ambassador. I want to clarify this matter as well. Regarding that meeting, we suggested a courtesy call, while the actual meeting should have been with the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee. This was not articulated. Of course, the Marshal of the Senate can undertake various initiatives; he doesn't have to ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Yesterday, I read information that he wanted to call me to consult about the content and his trip to Brussels, but I would prefer him to consult before making a decision, not when he is already packing for the trip – stated Jacek Czaputowicz in a conversation with Paweł Lisicki on "Salon Polityczny Trójki".

09:16

Müller after the Cabinet Council: I would expect more restraint from the opposition
“The President organized a Cabinet Council meeting yesterday. The opposition will always criticize the actions of the President or the government. I would expect more restraint from the opposition,” said government spokesperson Piotr Müller on Radio Jedynka.

09:20

Brejza:

We're Dealing with a System Designed to Destroy Grodzki Solely Because He is the Marshal of the Senate

In recent weeks, we have been witnessing a system of grinding down political opponents, a system aimed at destroying Tomasz Grodzki solely because he is the Marshal of the Senate, the speaker of the chamber which PiS's team lost the elections for. Naturally, this is an action planned with perfidy and executed in an exceptionally ruthless and vile manner. The deliberate destruction of Marshal Grodzki and his good name, just as the good name of Paweł Adamowicz was destroyed before, and even earlier, during the first PiS government, there was the tragically ended case of Barbara Blida, or the year-long special operation targeting their coalition partner Samoobrona and Andrzej Lepper. These are known methods, easy to identify, and exceptionally ignoble, because individuals without names are involved in this operation – I'm referring to the people whose alleged bribes are cited by PiS media, a person who supposedly gave 400 zlotys in 1994 before his nomination” - said Senator Krzysztof Brejza from Civic Coalition in an interview with Beata Lubecka on Radio Zet.

Sejm Session Extended to Friday. Witek: Proposals for New Laws Have Been Submitted. Prime Minister Asked for Them to Be Included in This Session
The Sejm was supposed to be two-day, it will be three-day, so as not to process legislation at night, because proposals for new laws have been submitted. The Prime Minister asked for them to be included in this Sejm session. They are important due to the entry into force date of some provisions. They are important for citizens, and we must take into account that the Senate has a month to consider them, and then the President to sign them. There is an extensive justification from the Prime Minister – said the Marshal of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, at a press conference.

10:18

Witek:

Cabinet Council Meeting Was Very Good

The President has the option to convene either the National Security Council or the Cabinet Council. This is his sovereign decision. He made such a decision. What's more, this Cabinet Council meeting was very good; the issue of, among other things, the commemorations in Israel and the President's presence, as well as the commemorations in Auschwitz and the commemorations in the Middle East, was discussed. I am informed to the extent I should be. I am aware that the issue of defense, what is happening in that region, is so difficult, so complicated, that not everything can be made public” - said the Marshal of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, at a press conference.

10:19

Witek:

I Promised MPs I Would Speak With the Prime Minister About How and In What Form He Can Inform MPs About the Situation in the Middle East

Today, this matter was raised at the Sejm Presidium. MPs from opposition parties asked about it. I promised, I committed myself, that in addition to the special services committee dealing with this topic, I would speak with the Prime Minister about how and in what form he can inform MPs about the situation” – said the Marshal of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, at a press conference.

10:22

Witek on Grodzki-Jourová Meeting: I See No Reason for Outsiders to Interfere in Polish Law, Passed in the Polish Sejm

I will not comment on what the Speaker of the Senate is doing. I can say how I would have acted. I know my powers, my constitutional duties. I would have acted completely differently. I believe that matters which are our internal, Polish matters, should be resolved here. The issue concerns judicial acts that are currently being processed. It is unthinkable for me that matters related to Polish law, which are our internal domain, I see no reason why someone from outside should interfere in Polish law, passed in the Polish Sejm” - said the Marshal of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, at a press conference.

10:32

PM Morawiecki Appeals to Opposition for Cooperation Amid Middle East Tensions

- I will begin with the issue that concerns everyone, which is the situation in the Middle East. We are in constant contact with the President; I spoke with the President this morning, and we are continuously monitoring the situation. The fundamental obligation of a partner within NATO, as everyone is aware, is to consult on this matter with all NATO members. This is precisely what happened during the last meeting, where all allies discussed how to react to this obviously dynamic situation. During the Cabinet Council convened by the President yesterday, we discussed this topic very thoroughly. Indeed, there is a mutual exchange of blows occurring there. The situation has been unstable for a considerable time, and in recent months, following the attack on Saudi Arabian refinery facilities and the subsequent shelling of ships in the Persian Gulf, the situation has obviously escalated with the elimination of General Soleimani. In this case, where the USA makes a decision independently, it is naturally their decision; however, we have an obligation to care for Polish soldiers, we do care for Polish soldiers, and this is being done in accordance with the rules of procedure and protocols within the pact. We are discussing the most appropriate reaction with our partners, and in the context of what might happen there, I would like to appeal to the opposition to cooperate with the government, because we are striving for de-escalation, to maintain conditions of peace and stability, as much as possible, such as they are, of course, in the Middle East, far from what we would wish for - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in the Sejm.

10:34

PMM:

The Situation of Our Soldiers in Iraq is Under Control Today

- The situation of our soldiers in Iraq is under control today. The Minister of National Defence and the Minister of the Interior, with whom I am in constant contact regarding this matter, are monitoring this situation practically on an ongoing basis, online. We receive additional reports from Iraq every hour - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in the Sejm.

10:37

PM:

We're Keeping Our Finger on the Pulse and I Assure You We Will Make the Most Appropriate Decision in These Clearly Difficult Circumstances Occurring in the Middle East

- I want to assure you that throughout yesterday's discussions at the Council of Ministers, convened by the President, and this morning during my conversation with the President, and in just over two hours at the National Security Bureau with the participation of the President, Ministers of National Defence, and Interior, and myself, we have consistently kept our finger on the pulse, and I assure you that we will make the most appropriate decision in these clearly difficult circumstances that are occurring in the Middle East - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in the Sejm.

10:41

Sejm:

First Reading of the "Emerytura plus" Bill. PM Morawiecki: "We Are Fulfilling Our Commitment. The Fate of Nearly 10 Million Pensioners and Disability Pensioners Will Improve"
We are fulfilling a commitment that was made not only during the election campaign, but earlier, about a year ago, concerning the 13th pension, the pension package, the 13th pension, and "Emerytura plus". This is also a commitment to ensure the multi-dimensionally understood security of Polish citizens. This is very good news because it is an expression of solidarity, intergenerational solidarity, and solidarity that will improve the fate of nearly 10 million pensioners and disability pensioners. This is a decisive change compared to all the actions of the governments of the Third Polish Republic – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in the Sejm during the first reading of the government's bill concerning the 13th pension. - This is the fulfillment of commitments, and credibility and trust are the foundation of democracy and good policy, and by carrying out this commitment, we want to simultaneously confirm and are confirming our credibility – the head of the Polish government continued.

10:46

PMM:

For all the years of the Third Polish Republic, pensioners mostly lived on meager pensions. For former SB officers and communist regime officials, these pensions were unfortunately sometimes PLN 6,000 and higher. We are changing this.
For all the years of the Third Polish Republic, unfortunately, pensioners have mostly lived on meager pensions. I say 'mostly' because in the case of Security Service officers and communist regime officials, these pensions were unfortunately sometimes PLN 6,000 and higher. We are changing this. We are restoring the true, proper order of things. We are restoring elementary justice, stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in the Sejm.

President Duda to Meet with Prime Minister Morawiecki and Government Representatives at 1 PM; Focus on Assessing the Current Security Situation in the Middle East

11:08

Morawiecki:

As long as the PiS government enjoys public trust, the 13th pension, "Emerytura plus", and high economic growth, among the highest in the EU, will be guaranteed, as we are prepared for tougher times.

- Today we are presenting a budget that contains elements ensuring a more dignified life and better pensions for seniors. As long as the PiS government enjoys public trust, I want to guarantee our fellow citizens that the 13th pension will continue, the "Emerytura plus" program will remain, and high economic growth, among the highest in the EU, will be sustained because we are prepared for tougher times. You've been predicting these tougher times for several years now, calling for a slowdown. Looking at the opposition, your economists have been praying for this slowdown, almost jokingly. The slowdown has arrived, yet economic growth in Poland remains the highest, or among the highest, in OECD and EU countries - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in the Sejm.

11:15

Müller:

We Don't Rule Out a Change or Increase in Security Alert

"It is unequivocally in our interest not to escalate the conflict in the Middle East. This is the position of the Polish government, and it also aligns with joint actions at the European level. Of course, the situation regarding security alerts is being monitored on an ongoing basis. We do not rule out that a change or increase in such an alert may take place" - said government spokesperson, Minister Piotr Müller, in an interview with journalists in the Sejm.

12:13

Kidawa-Błońska to the President: This is not the time for prevarication or avoiding dialogue with the opposition, because security is important for all of us and we are all responsible for it.

The security of Poles has been and is the most important thing for me and for all of us. For several days, actually since last week, I have been appealing to Mr. President, and I also appealed to Mr. Chairman Kaczyński to convene the National Security Council. The President does not make this decision alone. I hope that the Prime Minister and the Chairman will persuade and encourage Mr. President to convene this Council. The situation is changing day by day, and the opposition and citizens have the right to know about the security of Poles in the East, and what the security of Polish soldiers looks like. This is not the time for prevarication, for avoiding dialogue with the opposition, because security is important for all of us and we are all responsible for it” - said Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, candidate for President from the Civic Coalition and Deputy Marshal, at a press conference in the Sejm.

12:13

Siemoniak:

Continuing a policy where foreign and security policy are held hostage by domestic politics and the ruling camp's propaganda leads nowhere

"Yesterday we heard that there is no threat to Polish soldiers. The last night brought a denial of this thesis. The threat exists. The situation is serious. Apparently, no one is controlling it. Continuing such a policy, where foreign and security policy are held hostage by domestic politics and the ruling camp's propaganda, leads nowhere" – said Tomasz Siemoniak from Civic Coalition at a press conference in the Sejm.

12:18

Budka:

Instead of Starting a Sincere Dialogue with Poles, the Prime Minister Once Again Used the Sejm Situation for Internal Politics

The Civic Coalition club submitted a written request to supplement the agenda with information from the Prime Minister, including on the situation in the Middle East and the security of both our soldiers and civilian employees of the military and diplomatic missions. Instead of taking this opportunity to start a sincere dialogue with Poles and the opposition, the Prime Minister once again used the situation in the Sejm to engage in internal politics” – said the head of the Civic Coalition club, Borys Budka, at a press conference in the Sejm.

12:33

Sobolewski:

PiS Plans Summer Conventions for Internal Elections, Aiming for Central Leadership

- The plans are to hold local PiS conventions during this summer period, broadly defined as June, July, and August, for the election of district and municipal PiS boards, district conventions for the election of district boards, and there will also be a congress, likely a convention, to cap off all these internal party elections. This is stipulated by the statute, and it's where the central PiS authorities will be elected. We don't have specific [decisions] yet, but it will probably be in the summer - stated Krzysztof Sobolewski in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

- It is difficult for me to speak on behalf of the party leader [Kaczyński], but I am counting on that happening [that he will run for re-election]. I will not speak in the leader's name - added the Chairman of the PiS Executive Committee.

12:42

Sobolewski:

The Result of This Democracy within Civic Platform is Schetyna's So-Called 'Six-Pack' – Six Consecutive Losses

- The result of this democracy within Civic Platform is the so-called 'six-pack' of Schetyna. We call it that, meaning six consecutive losses for Civic Platform against PiS. We have one leader, and whether in PiS or the United Right camp, we see that this is very positive for us – stated Krzysztof Sobolewski in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

13:23

Grodzki After Meeting with Jourová: We Exchanged Views with Experts from Both Sides on Whether the Judicial Act is Suitable for Amendment or Rejection

Regarding the details of the so-called judicial acts, we exchanged views with experts from both sides on whether this act is suitable for amendment, or perhaps for rejection and return to the Sejm. However, Commissioner Jourová welcomed the fact that the Venice Commission, which is a body with an advisory, not binding, role, will also issue opinions on this matter. She also appreciated that we are conducting intensive consultations shortly after the holidays to best prepare for the debate on this law, which is very important for judges, but even more important for all of us, for the citizens of Poland who interact with the justice system. Because everyone wants to be judged by a judge who has the proper mandate for their position, is truly independent, and can issue a verdict in accordance with the fundamental principles of democracy” – said the Marshal of the Senate, Tomasz Grodzki, in Brussels.

We were received as good friends in an institution where we stand on equal footing with other members of the European community, with equal rights and obligations” – he added.

14:17

Soloch After BBN Meeting: The Situation is Completely Under Control. The President and Prime Minister are Jointly Monitoring the Situation

The President and the Prime Minister were informed about the situation following last night’s events, after the Iranian missile attack on American bases. According to the information received, we know that our soldiers are safe there. This was not an attack directed against Polish soldiers. It was an attack directed against American bases. Thanks to a good warning system, no human casualties were reported. The situation is completely under control. The Polish contingent is carrying out tasks established within the framework of allied command. The President and the Prime Minister are jointly monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis” - stated the head of the National Security Bureau (BBN), Paweł Soloch, after the meeting.

14:30

Grupiński on Public Media Compensation: A Decision Made on the Anniversary of President Adamowicz's Death, to Whose Death the Hatred and Attacks Perpetrated by TVP Significantly Contributed. How Can You Do This in Good Conscience?

- I would like to ask a very simple, fundamental question to the ruling party, to the government. Do you not consider it exceptionally immoral, sounding like mockery, to make such a decision to double the funds for an institution, about which I will not now repeat what has been said in the debate, but to make this decision on the anniversary of the death of Gdańsk Mayor Paweł Adamowicz, to whose death the hatred and attacks of the kind that TVP conducted significantly contributed. How can you do this in your consciences? Something like that. You parted ways with morality quite some time ago - stated Rafał Grupiński in the Sejm.

19:54

Dera:

Trump's Statement is Unambiguous. We Can Breathe a Sigh of Relief. It's De-escalation

- Donald Trump's statement is unambiguous. We can breathe a sigh of relief. It's de-escalation. It's a thoughtful, calm statement, giving hope that this conflict will be defused - said Andrzej Dera in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program 'Gość Wydarzeń' (Guest of Events) on Polsat News.

20:02

Dera on the Middle East Situation: We Are Not Uniquely Engaged. We Are Part of NATO and Will Participate to the Extent Dictated by Our Position and Commitment within NATO

- We are not uniquely engaged. We are part of NATO, and within the framework of NATO agreements, we will participate to the extent dictated by our position and commitment within NATO. So, please note, it's not just Poles there, there are Czechs, soldiers from other countries, because that's how NATO works - said Andrzej Dera in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program “Gość Wydarzeń” (Guest of the Events) on Polsat News.

20:03

Schetyna:

The Situation Will Escalate. Something Very Bad Has Happened, and Even Trump's Defensive Statement Doesn't Change This

- No, quite the opposite. I believe this situation will escalate, that something very bad has happened, and even President Trump's defensive statement today does not change this situation, because both the Iranian attack and the way the funeral was conducted, the atmosphere of the Iranian Foreign Minister's statements, show that there will be further installments of this conflict, and this is a problem not only for local or regional politics, but also for global politics - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:07

Grodzki:

I Think Nothing Would Have Happened If the President Had Convened the National Security Council. It Would Be Worth Hearing All Sides

It is strange that since 2016, the President has not convened this Council [National Security Council] even once. This is his prerogative. I think nothing would have happened if he had convened such a Council, and in this matter, the matter of our citizens' security, it must be absolutely above party dispute. As they say, there is strength in numbers. It would be worth hearing all sides” - said Senate Marshal Tomasz Grodzki in a conversation with Monika Olejnik on “Kropka nad i” on TVN24.

20:07

Dera:

The Marshal Must Understand That Poland Should Speak With One Voice Externally

- If we talk about the Russian ambassador, even though there was a request not to meet at that level, he ignored that information and met him. Then we had a very strange situation where President Putin attacked Poland, and practically the Marshal of the Senate met with the Russian ambassador. Such matters can be played out, and this simply must not be done. The Marshal must understand that Poland should speak with one voice externally - said Andrzej Dera in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" (Guest of the Events) on Polsat News.

20:09

Grodzki on the Disciplinary Bill: The Fact is, This Bill Will Likely Be Rejected

„After today, I know a bit more, even significantly more. I had a meeting with the Vice-President of the European Commission and the Commissioner for Justice, where we exchanged views on the state of the rule of law in Poland, and even a written statement has been released from these consultations. I will know more when we hear the Venice Commission's opinion, and when, on the eve of the Senate session on the 14th, extensive social consultations take place,” said the Marshal of the Senate, Tomasz Grodzki, in a conversation with Monika Olejnik on "Kropka nad i" on TVN24.

„The fact is, this bill will likely be rejected,” he added.

20:13

Skurkiewicz:

The Defense Committee Meeting Has Just Concluded. Minister Błaszczak Provided MPs with Comprehensive Information on the Situation in Iraq

- The meeting of the National Defense Committee has just concluded. Minister Mariusz Błaszczak presented MPs with comprehensive information regarding what is happening in Iraq, our involvement in Iraq, so I am convinced that today the members of the defense committee have this knowledge absolutely deepened - said Wojciech Skurkiewicz in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program "Wydarzenia i Opinie" (Events and Opinions) on Polsat News.

20:14

Grodzki:

I have absolutely no intention of conducting parallel foreign policy. That's like stitching shoes for me

I have absolutely no intention of conducting parallel foreign policy. That's like stitching shoes for me. I have the right to go to the European Commission, I have the right to contact parliaments of other countries, and I have my prerogatives, which I often coordinate with Minister Czaputowicz, as he admitted on television yesterday” – said the Marshal of the Senate, Tomasz Grodzki, in an interview with Monika Olejnik on ‘Kropka nad i’ on TVN24.

20:15

Grodzki:

Had We Known About Putin's Attack, I Would Have Canceled the Meeting with the Russian Ambassador

The President was either poorly informed on this matter, or someone provided him with incorrect dates. Yesterday, Minister Czaputowicz clearly stated that I met before the Russian President's attack on Poland. I said that had we known about this attack, I would have canceled that meeting [with the Russian ambassador]” – said Senate Marshal Tomasz Grodzki in an interview with Monika Olejnik on the program “Kropka nad i” on TVN24.

20:20

Grodzki Asked if Putin Should Have Been Invited to Auschwitz Before Attacks on Poland: 'Of Course. If He Hadn't Come, the Situation Would Be Reversed.'

“*If [President Andrzej Duda] had invited [President Putin] to Auschwitz, to Poland, and President Putin hadn’t come, the situation would be reversed. We would be in the position of the one who invited, but President Putin had ignored us. Of course [President Putin should have been invited to Auschwitz before the recent attacks on Poland]. I remind you that when President Komorowski organized the commemorations, it looked completely different. The issue with Israel, which has been ongoing since the unfortunate IPN law, is a failure of Polish diplomacy*,” said Senate Marshal Tomasz Grodzki in an interview with Monika Olejnik on “Kropka nad i” on TVN24.

20:20

Skurkiewicz:

There is no need to convene the National Security Council. I have an overwhelming impression that opposition party members want to gain political capital from this.

- As of today, there is no need to convene the National Security Council. A Cabinet Council meeting has taken place, which is a session of the government chaired by the President of the Republic of Poland. Today, a meeting also took place at the National Security Bureau (BBN) with the participation of the Prime Minister, the Minister of National Defence, and the commanders of the Polish army, where this information was exhaustively conveyed by the military side as well. Please remember that we are not interested in stoking this political drumbeat today, because I have an overwhelming impression that it is precisely the members of opposition parties who want to gain some political capital from this – said Wojciech Skurkiewicz in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program „Wydarzenia i Opinie” on Polsat News.

20:24

Schetyna:

My Term is Ending. I'm Not Giving Up
My term is ending. Generally, I'm not giving up. I'm not giving up. It's my decision [not to run]. I made the decision; I took over Platforma four years ago at the most difficult moment, when it had lost the elections to the Sejm and the Senate. In a difficult, very difficult situation. From that 9, 10, 11%, I managed to raise it to 27.5%, win the Senate elections through partnership and opposition cooperation, build Civic Coalition, and I believe that a new stage is now coming. After the last elections, there was an atmosphere that change was needed, new energy, new people, youth, a generational shift. If I were to hinder this, if it could somehow stop Platforma's move to the offensive, to a new stage, then I say: I can step aside. I don't have to do anything; I am a fulfilled politician and I've done a few things in my life. I'm not leaving Platforma, but if there are six excellent candidates... - stated Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with Grzegorz Kajdanowicz on TVN24's "Fakty po faktach".

20:25

Kierwiński:

If the opposition requests a meeting with the President to ascertain Poland's safety and forge a common stance, the ruling party should only rejoice.
It is natural that strategic interests, such as Polish security, should be discussed between the government and the opposition.
