Political Week Ahead: Parliamentary Election Results, Sejm and Senate Post-Election, EU Summit

The upcoming week in politics will primarily focus on the official results of the parliamentary elections - most likely on Tuesday, as well as the continuation of Sejm and Senate sessions - probably the last ones of the outgoing term, and a European Council meeting.

*****

Parliamentary Election Results. - We will most likely learn the official results of the parliamentary elections on Tuesday - announced the head of the National Electoral Office, Magdalena Pietrzak, in an interview with Radio Zet. According to her, we will probably know by Monday which committees have crossed the electoral threshold and will participate in the division of mandates. - We have to take into account that they will have twice as many tasks as in the European Parliament elections, because these are elections to the Sejm and the Senate. It won't be as quick as in the case of European elections - she emphasized.

Sejm and Senate Post-Election. The Sejm will resume its proceedings on Tuesday after the elections at 9:00 AM. This will be a two-day session. According to the current schedule, on Wednesday at 1:00 PM, MPs will hear the report of the parliamentary committee investigating VAT fraud, and at 6:30 PM, information on the activities of the Supreme Court in 2018 and information on the activities of the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court. On Tuesday, at 4:45 PM, the first reading of the citizen's bill amending the Penal Code regarding "ensuring legal protection of children and youth against sexual depravity and demoralization" will take place. The Senate, in turn, will resume its proceedings on Thursday at 12:00 PM, and the entire session will last until Friday.

President Duda at the Inauguration of the Academic Year at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University. On Monday at 11:00 AM, President Andrzej Duda will participate in the solemn inauguration of the 2019/2020 academic year at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, which marks the beginning of the university's 20th-anniversary celebrations. On Wednesday at 10:00 AM, a conference titled "Ecological Responsibility of Polish Business" will be held at Belweder.

EU Summit. EU leaders will gather on Thursday and Friday for a European Council meeting to discuss issues such as the multi-year EU budget, priorities for the next 5 years, and Brexit. Leaders will discuss follow-up actions to the strategic program and EU priorities for 2019-2024. The newly elected President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will be asked to present the priorities of the new Commission.

PiS - 49.3%

KO - 22.27%

PSL - 9.75%

Konfederacja - 6.62%

07:54

Budka:

Electoral Results Could Have Been Better. Now We Must Draw Conclusions and Fix What Was Done Wrong

Electoral results could have been better. Now we must draw conclusions and fix what was done wrong. I respect everyone who participates in voting. We need to do much more to improve this result in the future, enhance the functioning of the entire organization, and move forward” - stated PO Vice-Chairman Borys Budka in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM.

07:55

Sasin:

The Most Important Thing is That the Goal Has Been Achieved, Namely a Majority on Our Own

- It is always human nature to expect that one would always want things to be better. It would probably be better if it were a little better, however, the most important thing is that the goal has been achieved, namely a majority on our own - stated Jacek Sasin in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:04

National Election Commission Reports Results from 71.89% of Polling Stations

Here are the preliminary results for the Sejm elections, based on data from 71.89% of polling stations:

PiS - 45.81%

KO - 25.46%

Lewica - 11.90%

PSL - 8.96%

Konfederacja - 6.71%

08:07

Sasin on First-Choice Coalition Partner: 'I Don't See One'

- I don't see one - stated Jacek Sasin in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Piasecki's Interview", when asked about a potential first-choice coalition partner.

08:10

Brudziński:

No party since 1989 achieved such a high result. With the d'Hondt method, even such a high result doesn't guarantee we can govern alone.
"No party since 1989 has achieved such a high result. Because we operate based on the d'Hondt electoral system, even such a high result does not guarantee at this moment whether we will be able to govern independently," said PiS MEP Joachim Brudziński in an interview with Robert Mazurek on RMF FM.

08:13

Sasin:

If We Continue to Increase Our Voter Base at This Pace, I'm Truly Confident About the Next Election

- However, the increase from just over 5 million to almost 8 million is impressive. This means we have actually increased our voter base by 50%. This shows that we are indeed effective, that more and more Poles appreciate what we do, and it's a good prognosis for the future. If we continue to increase our voter base at this pace, I'm truly confident about the next election - stated Jacek Sasin in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:38

Suski:

The largest commissions always report last. Our result might be slightly lower, meaning an upward correction for the anti-PiS coalition

- I think that the largest commissions always report last, the largest cities are counted at the end, and in these largest cities, the Civic Platform had more than the national average. Our result might be slightly lower, meaning an upward correction for the anti-PiS coalition. It might be a little less for us, but we still thank you very, very much - said Marek Suski in an interview with Marcin Wikło on TVP1's "Political Quarter Hour".

08:42

Sobolewski:

PiS - 235 Seats, KO - 134 Seats

https://twitter.com/AC_Sobol/status/1183630467569991680

08:44

Suski on a Majority Government: "I Think It's Not Threatened, Although the Lead is Small and It Won't Be Easy"

- I think it's not [threatened], although the lead is small and it won't be easy. But I hope the opposition has noticed that the street and foreign influence are not effective ways to fight in a democratic state - said Marek Suski in a conversation with Marcin Wikło on TVP1's "Political Quarter Hour".

09:12

Budka:

We were hoping for a result above 30%. Now we must draw conclusions and see what went wrong.
- Of course, the result could always be better. We were hoping for a result above 30%. Now we must draw conclusions, see what went wrong, where we made mistakes, but also point out those areas where we did slightly better than even the polls indicated. We have reclaimed many seats, especially in the Senate. Here, in the Silesian Voivodeship, the result is better than the national average. There is much work ahead of us – stated Borys Budka in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

09:18

Dworczyk:

PiS Has a Very Strong Mandate of Social Support with Nearly Eight Million Votes
Regardless of whether it's another 2% up, 2% down, one thing must be said. Firstly, for all Poles, this is good news because we have an increasingly strong civil society. 61% of voters who went to the polls is the best result since 1989. There has never been such high turnout in history. This is objectively good news for all of us. Plus, a second piece of news, beneficial from the perspective of my political formation, and I think also for the country as a whole, is that the winning party, and everything indicates it will be PiS, has a very strong mandate of social support, with nearly eight million votes - said Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Joanna Komółka on the program "Gość Radia ZET".

09:20

Budka on Presidential Elections: I'm in Favor of Doing it as Soon as Possible to Nominate a Good Candidate with the Agreement of Other Opposition Parties
Certainly, we will have, in our opinion, the best candidate. These decisions are ahead of us in the near future. I am in favor of doing it as soon as possible to nominate a good candidate with the agreement of other opposition parties, with such a pact, similar to the one for the Senate, but with the assumption that in the second round there will be full mobilization for the person who enters that second round, with the full support of other opposition groups – stated Borys Budka in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

09:24

Dworczyk:

I Personally Financed This Flight to Chicago. It Was a Regular Commercial Flight, of Course

- The answer is obvious. I paid for and personally financed this flight [to Chicago]. It was a regular commercial flight, of course, and these kinds of suppositions, without asking the question first, are simply offensive - said Michał Dworczyk in an interview with Joanna Komolka on the program „Gość Radia ZET”.

09:34

Budka on Brand Change: "It's an Option. We Will Discuss It. It's Also a Matter for Our Partners."
"It's one of the options. We will discuss it. It's also a matter for our partners, in terms of how we will build this coalition, whether we will formalize it in the way the editor mentioned, or whether it will be a looser union of several groups. These decisions are ahead of us," stated Borys Budka in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego," when asked if he favored changing the brand, the mark, the sign, parting with the name PO and replacing it, for example, with the name Civic Coalition.

09:50

Budka on Running for PO Leader: "My Term is Ongoing. I'm Vice-Chairman. Various Scenarios Are Possible, but We're Not Discussing Names Yet."
Grzegorz Schetyna has repeatedly emphasized that his term ends in January 2020, and that this will be the time when his role can be democratically assessed. He did not declare whether he would run or not in these elections, but our statute is structured in such a way that all members will elect the new chairman - stated Borys Budka in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego". When asked if he would be ready to throw his hat in the ring and run for the leadership of the new Civic Platform (PO), he replied: - My term is ongoing. I'm the vice-chairman. Of course, various scenarios are possible, but we are not discussing names at this moment. We are discussing how to collectively draw conclusions. That's what the national board and national council are for, good internal discussions. If someone thinks that the only prescription for potential success is solely the change of this or that name, then I am not a proponent of such solutions only. I believe this is a much more complicated matter, many more elements contribute to it, so at this moment, if someone started discussing only names, it would be a path not towards improvement, but perhaps even towards worsening the situation. - In politics, one must be ready for any new challenge, and of course, such readiness must always be taken into account because we are a democratic party, and the members will decide who will be the party leader. However, every party member has the right to run. It is too early for any declarations at this moment - Budka emphasized.

09:59

Szefernaker:

This Result is the Best in the History of the Third Polish Republic. No Party After 4 Years in Power Achieved Such a Good Result to Rule Independently. This is a Polish Record
- One could always achieve a better result, but I would like to point out that this result is the best in the history of the Third Polish Republic. No party after 4 years in power has achieved such a good result to rule independently, after 4 years in power. Therefore - this can be said - it is a Polish record - stated Paweł Szefernaker in a conversation with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

11:01

Szefernaker:

Now We Will Draft Scenarios, Taking Into Account President Kaczyński's Remarks

- Until now, we have been thinking about what to do to achieve the best possible result for PiS. Now we will draft scenarios, and these scenarios must take into account what President Kaczyński said yesterday, meaning it must be a course that will allow us to convince even more Poles that the PiS government is the one leading Polish affairs very well - stated Paweł Szefernaker in a conversation with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus.

President Duda at UKSW Academic Year Inauguration: 'You are a true university where freedom means freedom, and respect means respect'

- It is at this university that my predecessor as President of the Republic of Poland, Professor Lech Kaczyński, was always received with great kindness. He also had the pleasure of teaching students here, young people, he was a professor here. He always met with kindness and understanding here. Even in the most difficult times for him. I am talking about times that are already contemporary for us, I am not talking about earlier times. I am not talking about the times before 1989. I am talking about the times when he was already truly a politician, acting in the legal world of politics, not in the underground. He also experienced difficult moments, just like the President of the Republic of Poland, for that matter. He was always received kindly here. I am enormously grateful for this. Also, after the President was no longer with us, I could come here to familiarize myself with research, to exchange views and listen to views that were forbidden to be expressed at other universities. By closing lecture halls, auditoriums, offices. It was here that there was true academic freedom, freedom of scientific research, and true freedom of speech. For this, too, I thank and pay great respect to the university community, its authorities, and all of you, and to the university itself. You are a true university where freedom means freedom, and respect means respect. These are precisely the values that you have enshrined in your statute, and these values are observed here, which is sorely lacking in many other places - stated President Andrzej Duda at the inauguration of the academic year at UKSW.

12:36

Müller:

Government composition, I think, within 2 weeks. Two to three weeks is all it will take

"We are very grateful to all Poles for trusting us again. I am very pleased with my individual result and the result of the entire party. We have almost 8 million votes. No one in Polish history has ever had more," said government spokesman, Minister Piotr Müller, in an interview with journalists in front of the Law and Justice (PiS) headquarters.

"Please give the President time to designate a candidate for Prime Minister. [The government's composition], I think, within 2 weeks. Two to three weeks is all it will take," he added.

12:37

Müller:

We'll see if coalition partners' expectations increase. We will act together this term.

"We have always had many coalition partners. There have been no problems with reaching agreements. We will see if [coalition partners'] expectations increase or not. Above all, we have one common list, and we have run this way so far and will continue to act together this term" – said government spokesperson, Minister Piotr Müller, in an interview with journalists in front of the PiS headquarters.

President Duda on Parliamentary Elections: It Was a Beautiful Celebration of Democracy. We Showed That Democracy Exists in Poland, Especially Abroad. This Refuted All Claims of Problems with Democracy in Poland

- This is an excellent opportunity for me to directly thank all my compatriots who participated in yesterday's parliamentary elections. I thank you very, very much for making the effort. Many people stood in queues, often for a long time, especially outside the country, to cast their vote. It was a beautiful celebration of democracy. We showed that democracy exists in Poland, and we especially showed it abroad. This refuted all claims that there were any problems with democracy in Poland. A beautiful celebration, a very high turnout, the highest in 30 years, around 60%. These are indeed great news. I thank everyone once again very, very much for heeding the appeals, for being determined - stated President Andrzej Duda in a conversation with journalists.

- I am enormously grateful to everyone who went and cast their vote. I congratulate all those who have obtained their mandates. I hope that the deputies and senators of the next term will work diligently for the Republic of Poland. I wish that all the matters you will implement will serve Poland and that the debate in the Sejm will proceed as harmoniously as possible, so that we truly build a community in this way. I know that political disputes exist and will exist, but I ask that these political disputes be conducted on the basis of culture, not only political culture but also the culture of being, and that this builds rather than destroys - emphasized PAD.

Unofficially:

Opposition Takes Control of the Senate

According to unofficial information, the opposition is taking control of the Senate, introducing 51 representatives to the upper house. In practice – if the balance of power in the Senate does not change – PiS will be able to pass laws, but the entire legislative process will be extended by 30 days, as we wrote in June on 300POLITYCE.

18:16

Fogiel:

Senate is a Draw with a Lean. Values Are Important to Us, Which is Why We Didn't Nominate Bonkowski. Our Competitors Will Rely on Votes from Gawłowski and Kwiatkowski

Indeed, it appears that the Senate is a draw with a lean, especially if we consider party affiliations. This is not a Civic Coalition majority. There are a couple of formally independent individuals there. We believe that values are important in politics. Our competitors believe otherwise. For instance, we did not nominate our senator from the previous term, Mr. Bonkowski, because we disagreed on numerous occasions with what he said and his actions. He faced no legal charges. Our competitors will rely on the votes of Senator Gawłowski and Senator Kwiatkowski” – said PiS deputy spokesperson Radosław Fogiel in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM.

18:16

Fogiel:

We Respect the Rules of Democracy. If Any Senator Wishes to Support Good Projects for Poland, We Are Always Open to That

If any senator wishes to support good projects for Poland, we are always open to that. We respect the rules of democracy. If there is such a balance of power in the upper house, we accept that. Let us just note that by playing the way our competitors do, we would have an additional senator, we would have a tie” – said the Deputy Spokesperson of PiS, Radosław Fogiel, in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM.

18:17

Fogiel:

If Someone, Even by Coincidence or Destiny, Becomes a Senator on the Opposition Ticket, but Decides It's Worth Working for Poland with the White-and-Red PiS Team, We Won't Chase Them Away with a Stick

"You will not get a statement from me that we will discourage them. If someone, even as a result of some coincidence, alignment of stars, has become a senator on the opposition lists, but decides that it is worth working for Poland with the white-and-red PiS team, we will not chase them away with a stick" - said Deputy Spokesperson of PiS Radosław Fogiel in an interview with Marcin Zaborski on RMF FM.

18:40

Mucha:

These elections were winnable. We could have won them. It was only the way this campaign was conducted that unfortunately meant they weren't won.

- We rose to the occasion at least in the sense that, as the opposition, as three opposition blocs, we did not attack each other. In fact, apart from minor barbs, there were almost no squabbles between us. We knew where the political opponent was, the real one, and I think in this regard we rose to the occasion. Another matter is that, in my opinion, these elections were winnable for us. As the opposition. We could have won them. And it was only the way this campaign was conducted that unfortunately meant they weren't won - stated Joanna Mucha on TVN24.

18:44

Mucha:

With a Better Election Campaign, These Elections Could Have Been Won

- Definitely not. I believe that with a better election campaign, these elections could have been won - stated Joanna Mucha on TVN24.

19:33

Sasin:

Unofficial Confirmation of an Independent Majority; The Goal Has Been Achieved and Realized

- It's probably known by now. We will find out officially, but unofficially it's already known that there is an independent majority. The goal has been achieved and realized - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" on Polsat News.

19:36

Sasin:

This is what we announced, and this is what we're sticking to. Our candidate for Prime Minister is Mateusz Morawiecki
It will be neither a new government, nor the same as before, that's my prediction. Certain adjustments, if nothing else, were announced in our election program - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" (Guest of Events) on Polsat News. This is what we announced, and this is what we're sticking to. Our candidate for Prime Minister is Mateusz Morawiecki - Sasin added.

19:41

Sasin on the Senate: It's a Draw with a Slight Edge to the Opposition

- It's what you could call a draw with a slight edge to the opposition. We lacked a bit of luck - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on Polsat News's program "Gość Wydarzeń".

19:46

Sasin:

I think some entrepreneurs were scared by our minimum wage announcements

- I think some entrepreneurs, these small, Polish entrepreneurs, were scared by our announcements regarding the minimum wage - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Dorota Gawryluk on the program "Gość Wydarzeń" (Guest of Events) on Polsat News.

- We presented quite concrete proposals that will ensure the situation for entrepreneurs does not worsen, but improves. Perhaps we didn't manage to articulate this fully - Sasin added.

20:25

Kidawa-Błońska on Defeating PJK in Warsaw: I Spoke with Warsaw Residents and They Could Meet Me, Whereas President Kaczyński Was Not on the Streets During This Campaign

- Warsaw is a unique city and unique people. The results have always shown that people here care. About the law, about the constitution, and about freedom. That's also why I spoke with the residents of Warsaw and they could meet me, whereas President Kaczyński was not on the streets of Warsaw during this campaign - said Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska in an interview with Monika Olejnik on "Kropka nad i" TVN24.

20:27

Kidawa-Błońska on Schetyna's Result: 'Certainly Not an Impressive Outcome, But I'm Looking at the Entire List. What Matters to Me is the Composition of the Whole Club'
'Certainly, it wasn't an impressive result, but I am looking at the entire list. What interests me is the composition of the entire club, and new MPs have joined our club. Many very interesting individuals,' said Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska in an interview with Monika Olejnik on TVN24's 'Kropka nad i' (Dot Over the i).

20:33

National Election Commission: PiS Secures an Independent Majority in the Sejm

PiS - 235 seats

KO - 134 seats

Lewica - 49 seats

PSL - 30 seats

Konfederacja - 11 seats

MN - 1 seat

Turnout was 61.74%.

20:34

Kidawa-Błońska:

"The Platform is a democratic grouping. We will certainly assess this campaign. Party leadership elections in February"

- The Platform is a democratic grouping. A new parliamentary club will now be formed, and we will be creating the club's leadership. We will certainly assess this campaign. This needs to be done even for the future, so as not to make the same mistakes multiple times, so we will do it, but calmly and without emotion. Party leadership elections in February - said Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska in an interview with Monika Olejnik on TVN24's "Kropka nad i" program.

20:34

PJK:

We Achieved Huge Success. This is a Truly, Truly High Result. 235 MPs. We Managed with Such a Group of MPs in the Previous Term, the One Still Ongoing but Ending, and We Will Manage in This Term Too.
We achieved huge success. Almost 8 million 52 thousand votes is a truly, truly high result. 235 MPs. We managed with such a group of MPs in the previous term, the one still ongoing but ending, and we will manage in this term too. We note constant progress when it comes to the increase in the number of voters for PiS. Starting from 2015, and even before from 2005, with one small dip in 2011, this growth since 2005 is more than a 2.5-fold increase. We have more than 2.5 times more votes than then, and this must naturally be treated as a huge success. Polish politics, thanks to us, has moved to a new level, because previously no political force had achieved such a percentage result, let alone a remotely similar result in terms of the number of votes - stated Jarosław Kaczyński during a statement at the PiS headquarters.

20:37

Kidawa-Błońska on Presidential Election Bid: 'It's Not Just My Decision. If We Make That Decision, I Will Stand'

- We will make such a decision, because it is not just my decision, but that of the entire Civic Coalition. If we make that decision, I will stand - Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska said in an interview with Monika Olejnik on TVN24's "Kropka nad i".

20:37

PJK:

We Have Gained Legitimacy to Continue the Good Change, to Continue Our Policy, to Keep Changing Poland

- We are very happy, very satisfied. We believe we have gained the legitimacy to continue the good change, to continue our policy, to keep changing Poland - stated Jarosław Kaczyński during a press conference at the PiS headquarters.

20:41

Kidawa-Błońska on Presidential Elections: What Matters is the Second Round, So That All Democratic Parties Support One Candidate

- It's natural that in the first round of elections, each group wants to present its candidate. This is natural, and I understand it. Every party should show its leader, it should show how they perform in a campaign. What matters is what happens in the second round, so that in that second round, all these democratic groups want to support one candidate - said Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska in an interview with Monika Olejnik on "Kropka nad i" TVN24.

20:44

Kaczyński on the Senate: It's essentially a tie, with room for compromise and limited cooperation. We'll see if we succeed.
Regarding the Senate, it's obviously not ideal from our perspective that while we defeated Civic Platform, there are several independent senators, 3 people from PSL, and we don't currently have an absolute majority in the Senate. However, this is, first and foremost, a consequence of us adhering to certain principles. We could have at least achieved a tie in the Senate today if we had been willing to nominate individuals who, from our point of view, did not deserve it. Our political opponents have no such reservations. They nominate individuals against whom criminal charges are being filed, with serious evidence. In our case, it was solely about inappropriate statements, and that's what cost us. But I won't tell you that we regret it, because we believe that these principles, which are important to us, are more significant than some drawbacks that might arise from the current situation. I'll remind you that the Senate cannot block legislation, and that's the main point. At best, it can only prolong the legislative process, and that's something we are prepared for. However, we will also strive for the Senate to truly become a place where the war that so severely damages Polish politics will be at least limited, if not absent altogether. Our political opponents, Ms. Kidawa-Błońska, constantly calls for peace, so this will be a good test. It's essentially a tie, 48:48, concerning the two political coalitions; the rest are independents. There is room for compromise and some form of cooperation, at least limited. We'll see if we succeed. If we don't succeed, we will simply have to proceed according to the law, and certainly, everything we deem important will be realized – stated Jarosław Kaczyński during a statement at the PiS headquarters.

20:48

PJK:

The Day the Election Results Were Announced is the Best in Our Political Formation's History. It's a Mandate to Continue Policies That Have Brought Much Good to Poland
- We also consider this day, the day the election results were announced, to be the best in our political formation's history, because simply put, we never imagined we would be able to operate at such a high level, meaning at the level of over 8 million votes. We believed there were certain ceilings that could not be surpassed. Today, we have a task, and it's for 4 years from now, to surpass these current ceilings, and I am convinced that we will succeed. But the most important thing is that there is a mandate to continue our policies and there are real opportunities to continue them. Policies that have brought much good to Poland - stated Jarosław Kaczyński during a press conference at the PiS headquarters.

20:52

PJK:

We Conduct Politics with Honest Methods
Thank you very much. We conduct politics with honest methods - stated Jarosław Kaczyński at PiS headquarters, at the end of his statement, while a journalist attempted to ask whether there would be attempts to win over senators.

This will be the brightest spot of these elections for the Platform. -- AFTER 4 YEARS OF ABSENCE, THE LEFT IS RETURNING TO THE SEJM; FOR THE FIRST TIME, KONFEDERACJA IS ENTERING - announcement. -- THE PEASANTS' PARTY, WHICH TOGETHER WITH KUKIZ'15 POLITICIANS CREATED THE MOST UNUSUAL ALLIANCE AND ACHIEVED SUCCESS, UNDOUBTEDLY CANNOT BE ACCUSED OF LACKING THE WILL TO FIGHT - Grzegorz Kępka. -- KONFEDERACJA'S RESULT IS A BIG SURPRISE - Kępka continued. -- MAŁGORZATA KIDAWA-BŁOŃSKA DEFEATED JAROSŁAW KACZYŃSKI IN WARSAW, AND IN WROCŁAW, GRZEGORZ SCHETYNA CLEARLY LOST TO MIROSŁAWA STACHOWIAK-RÓŻECKA. ***** TVN FACTS -- PiS fought for power, the Civic Coalition fought for victory, the Left fought for a return to the scene, the PSL fought for survival, and Konfederacja fought to exist. -- PIS REALIZED ITS PLAN – IT WILL GOVERN ALONE; KO EXPECTED MORE, ALTHOUGH IT KNEW VICTORY WAS OUT OF REACH; THE LEFT RECEIVED A BONUS FOR UNITY, BUT THE GREATEST JOY WAS AMONG THE PEASANTS WHO WERE FIGHTING FOR SURVIVAL - Krzysztof Skórzyński. -- THE LACK OF A PIS MAJORITY IN THE SENATE IS A SUCCESS FOR THE OPPOSITION, BUT THERE WAS FAR FROM EUFORIA IN KO YESTERDAY - Skórzyński. -- ON THE LEFT, THERE WAS EUFORIA AS IF THEY HAD WON EVERYTHING - Skórzyński. -- FOR THE FIRST TIME, KONFEDERACJA RECEIVED A MANDATE OF TRUST - Skórzyński. -- THE OPPOSITION WINS THE SENATE; WILL THE LEGISLATIVE PENDOLINO END?: We are in a completely new situation - says Law and Justice - because it is losing the Senate. It is the opposition that is gaining a majority in the upper house. It can have its own Marshal and Presidium, but it is not the seats, but the laws, that will be most important. -- WILL ZIOBRO BE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER? There was euphoria but also reflection in the Law and Justice headquarters this Sunday. PiS politicians are happy with the victory, but Jarosław Kaczyński tempered expectations. Will Mateusz Morawiecki be the candidate for prime minister? Will Zbigniew Ziobro become deputy prime minister? -- SOBIENIOWSKI ON ACCOUNT SETTLEMENTS IN PIS: This Sunday at the PiS headquarters, it was evident that even a great victory did not prevent the first campaign account settlements from beginning during election night. -- IMPORTANT RESULTS WITHIN THE COALITION - Sobieniowski continued: In the victorious headquarters, no one hid the fact that, in addition to the overall committee result, results within the United Right camp were equally important – how many supporters and what support Jarosław Gowin's Porozumienie had, and how much Zbigniew Ziobro's Solidarna Polska had. -- DOZENS OF ZIOBRO'S MPS: It looks like there will be even a dozen or so politicians in the new Sejm referred to as "Ziobroists." This could affect the government, as Prosecutor General and Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro may also have the desire and opportunity for a Deputy Prime Minister position. -- SOBIENIOWSKI ON WIŚNIEWSKA TO THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS: Mateusz Morawiecki likely doesn't need to worry about his position, but one change seems very probable today – at the helm of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. PiS MEP Jadwiga Wiśniewska is being tipped as the new Foreign Minister. She neither confirms nor denies it herself. -- PIOTROWICZ AND KRYNICKA WILL NOT BE THERE: On the other hand, Stanisław Piotrowicz and Bernadeta Krynicka will almost certainly be absent. Both stirred controversy. Stanisław Piotrowicz was the face of the justice system reforms. Regarding changes in the judiciary, PiS is expected to return to them at the beginning of the new term. -- CZABAŃSKI WILL NOT BE AN MP, KURSKI AT NOWOGRODZKA: After the exit poll results were announced, PiS spokesperson Beata Mazurek published a photo online showing a group of PiS politicians around party leader Jarosław Kaczyński. Among them was the president of public television, Jacek Kurski. He already knows that Krzysztof Czabański, the head of the National Media Council, who is not very favorable to him, will not be an MP, even though Krzysztof Czabański was strongly supported in the elections by Jarosław Kaczyński himself. -- TERLECKI PERFORMED POORLY: Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska received more votes than Jarosław Kaczyński, Mateusz Morawiecki more than Borys Budka. Grzegorz Schetyna did not perform strongly, and Ryszard Terlecki performed poorly. Who is entering the Sejm with a record number of votes, and which familiar political faces are disappearing? -- I SHOWED THAT IT'S POSSIBLE TO WIN AGAINST PIS - Michał Kamiński. -- SCHETYNA'S RESULT SHOWS THAT THE RESIDENTS OF WROCŁAW EXPECT DIFFERENT POLITICS - Krzysztof Smiszek. -- WILL SCHETYNA REMAIN AT THE HEAD OF PO? - in the announcement. -- SCHETYNA HAS NO REASON TO BE HAPPY - KKZ. -- EVERY ELECTION VERIFIES LEADERSHIP - Rafał Trzaskowski. -- PO TAKES COMFORT IN THE FACT THAT THE RESULTS WILL TEMPER PIS'S APPETITES - KKZ. -- EVERYONE GAINED EXCEPT PO - Bogdan Zdrojewski. -- THERE IS DISAPPOINTMENT WITH THE LEADERSHIP, ALTHOUGH ZDROJEWSKI SPEAKS OF IT OPENLY - KKZ. -- WE WILL ALL CERTAINLY HAVE TO FACE EACH OTHER AND ASK OURSELVES WHETHER CERTAIN THINGS COULDN'T HAVE BEEN DONE BETTER - Agnieszka Pomaska. -- I RULE NOTHING OUT, ALL VARIANTS ARE POSSIBLE; WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT NAMES AT THE MOMENT - Budka. -- THE SENATE IS NOW A NEW FIELD FOR ACTIVITY, AND THE PO CAUCUS WILL BE FULL OF NEW FACES - KKZ. -- PERHAPS PO WILL ANNOUNCE PRIMARY ELECTIONS, UNLESS DONALD TUSK ENTERS THE GAME - KKZ. -- QUESTIONS ABOUT THE LEFT'S UNITY: Challenges are already being thrown at the ruling party among the Polish opposition. The Left is returning to the Sejm, PiS will have problems - announces Adrian Zandberg. He is the record holder on the left-wing list and a debutant in the Sejm. There are three main figures on the left, and only when united did they sound strong enough for voters to hear them. Will they stay united? ***** TVP NEWS -- PIS WON THE PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS. THIS IS A HISTORIC SUCCESS FOR THE RULING PARTY, WHICH, WINNING THE RACE TO THE SEJM IN EVERY AGE GROUP, ACHIEVED 43.59% - announcement. -- AFTER 1989, NO PARTY HAS ACHIEVED SUCH A GOOD RESULT - Edyta Lewandowska continued. -- THIS IS THE SIXTH ELECTION IN A ROW WON BY PIS - Jan Korab. -- PIS WILL CONTINUE TO GOVERN ALONE - Korab. -- AFTER 1989, THERE HAS NOT BEEN SUCH HIGH TURNOUT IN POLAND, NOR A PARTY THAT WOULD OBTAIN 8 MILLION VOTES - Korab. -- NO ONE HAS TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE KO DEFEAT SO FAR - Korab. -- INCOMPLETE PKW DATA SHOWS THAT PIS WON THE SENATE ELECTIONS - Korab: This party will introduce the most representatives to the upper house. -- IF REPRESENTATIVES OF VARIOUS OPPOSITION PARTIES AND THREE INDEPENDENT SENATORS SYMPATHETIC TO THE OPPOSITION VOTE UNANIMOUSLY, THE OPPOSITION MAY HAVE A MAJORITY IN THE SENATE - Korab. -- POLITICAL SCIENTISTS HAVE NO DOUBT THAT THE VOTERS' CHOICE IS UNAMBIGUOUS: THEY EXPECT A CONTINUATION OF THE REFORMS INITIATED BY PIS - Korab. -- PIS IS THE FIRST GROUP SINCE THE TRANSFORMATION TO BEGIN A SECOND TERM WITH HIGHER SUPPORT THAN IT RECEIVED IN ITS FIRST - announcement. -- KO TOOK SECOND PLACE, BUT ACCORDING TO COMMENTATORS, THE OPPOSITION PARTY CAN TALK ABOUT THE BIGGEST ELECTORAL DEFEAT - announcement: The only question is whether this is a surprise. For 4 years, the opposition has not developed a program that would convince the majority of voters. -- THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AN ATTACK ON DEMOCRACY AND A TOTALITARIAN DICTATORSHIP. THIS IS HOW THE OPPOSITION SCAREDB ITS VOTERS WITH PIS - Konrad Wąż. -- AFTER THE EXIT POLL RESULTS WERE ANNOUNCED, OPPOSITION POLITICIANS AND SYMPATHIZERS AGAIN BEGAN TO INSULT VOTERS - Wąż. -- OPPOSITION POLITICIANS ARE FULL OF CONTEMPT EVEN TOWARDS THEIR OWN SUPPORTERS - Wąż. -- SŁAWOMIR NEUMANN, ALTHOUGH ELECTED TO THE SEJM, CAN TALK ABOUT A PERSONAL DEFEAT - Wąż. -- KO LOST THE ELECTIONS IN TCZEW - Wąż. -- A CELEBRATION OF DEMOCRACY WITH RECORD TURNOUT - banner. -- SUCH TURNOUT IS THE BEST INDICATION OF THE STATE OF DEMOCRACY - announcement. -- "GW" STILL QUESTIONS THE PRINCIPLES OF DEMOCRACY - Jakub Krzyżak. -- MORE THAN HALF OF POLES OVERSEAS ARE VOTING FOR PIS - announcement. -- GRZEGORZ SCHETYNA IS THE BIGGEST LOSER OF THE ELECTIONS - THIS IS HOW POLITICAL SCIENTISTS COMMENT ON THE RESULTS. AFTER THE ELECTIONS, PIS CAN TALK ABOUT A HISTORIC SUCCESS THAT GIVES A POWERFUL MANDATE FOR FURTHER GOVERNANCE - Edyta Lewandowska.
