At 11:00, President Andrzej Duda will participate in the inauguration of the 2019/2020 academic year at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw (UKSW). Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin will open the new year at the Pedagogical University in Krakow.

Ahead of the Sejm session scheduled for Tuesday, Members of Parliament will work in committees today: at 13:30 and 17:00, the Public Finance Committee; at 17:30, the Economy and Development Committee; and at 18:00, the Environmental Protection Committee.

The upcoming week in politics will primarily focus on the official results of the parliamentary elections - most likely on Tuesday, as well as the continuation of Sejm and Senate sessions - probably the last ones of the outgoing term, and a European Council meeting.

Parliamentary Election Results. - We will most likely learn the official results of the parliamentary elections on Tuesday - announced the head of the National Electoral Office, Magdalena Pietrzak, in an interview with Radio Zet. According to her, we will probably know by Monday which committees have crossed the electoral threshold and will participate in the division of mandates. - We have to take into account that they will have twice as many tasks as in the European Parliament elections, because these are elections to the Sejm and the Senate. Sejm and Senate Post-Election. The Sejm will resume its proceedings on Tuesday after the elections at 9:00 AM. This will be a two-day session. According to the current schedule, on Wednesday at 1:00 PM, MPs will hear the report of the parliamentary committee investigating VAT fraud, and at 6:30 PM, information on the activities of the Supreme Court in 2018 and information on the activities of the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court. On Tuesday, at 4:45 PM, the first reading of the citizen's bill amending the Penal Code regarding "ensuring legal protection of children and youth against sexual depravity and demoralization" will take place. The Senate, in turn, will resume its proceedings on Thursday at 12:00 PM, and the entire session will last until Friday.

President Duda at the Inauguration of the Academic Year at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University. On Monday at 11:00 AM, President Andrzej Duda will participate in the solemn inauguration of the 2019/2020 academic year at Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, which marks the beginning of the university's 20th-anniversary celebrations. Regarding the Senate, it's obviously not ideal from our perspective that while we defeated Civic Platform, there are several independent senators, 3 people from PSL, and we don't currently have an absolute majority in the Senate. We could have at least achieved a tie in the Senate today if we had been willing to nominate individuals who, from our point of view, did not deserve it. Our political opponents have no such reservations. They nominate individuals against whom criminal charges are being filed, with serious evidence. In our case, it was solely about inappropriate statements, and that's what cost us. But I won't tell you that we regret it, because we believe that these principles, which are important to us, are more significant than some drawbacks that might arise from the current situation. I'll remind you that the Senate cannot block legislation, and that's the main point. At best, it can only prolong the legislative process, and that's something we are prepared for. However, we will also strive for the Senate to truly become a place where the war that so severely damages Polish politics will be at least limited, if not absent altogether. Our political opponents, Ms. Kidawa-Błońska, constantly calls for peace, so this will be a good test. It's essentially a tie, 48:48, concerning the two political coalitions; the rest are independents. There is room for compromise and some form of cooperation, at least limited. We'll see if we succeed. If we don't succeed, we will simply have to proceed according to the law, and certainly, everything we deem important will be realized – stated Jarosław Kaczyński during a statement at the PiS headquarters.
