Gliński on Media Concentration for 300: Bills Prepared, Aligned with European Standards Like France or Germany. Political Decision Lacking for Now.

Michał Olech

- The issue [of media concentration] has subsided politically because we cannot reform everything at once. The bills are prepared, they are in line with European standards, just like in France or Germany. After all, we all know what it's about. Media pluralism must be ensured, as it is the foundation of democracy and everyone admits that, certain standards should be met. And we are, of course, ready for this. If society gives its consent, we will do it. Such reforms must always be implemented in an atmosphere of social consent - said Piotr Gliński in an interview with 300POLITYKA. Asked if it would look like he said at a parliamentary committee, that there is a period in which a media outlet must transform, the Deputy Prime Minister replied: - I don't know how it will be. But that would seem to be the best way. However, there is no political decision at the moment because we also don't want to constantly test Poles with some quarrels. We know we don't have a media advantage and that these slanders will fall on us. So, it is obvious that we have no desire to start any new political quarrels. Because for us, it is a pro-democratic reform, and for the opposition, an opportunity for "the streets and abroad". Such is fate. Full interview HERE
