Civic Platform on Yesterday's Government Talks with Teacher Unions: A Farce, Without Concrete Proposals. These Are Not Serious Solutions

"It cannot be the case that the government is downplaying this teachers' protest, as it is currently doing, as we saw yesterday. We are in a dramatic situation also because the government is manipulating numbers and facts, and on top of that, it is trying to pit teachers and unions against each other. This is unacceptable and shameful. The chairman of 'Solidarity', Piotr Duda, is playing a very strange role. Teachers from 'Solidarity' support the strike, they are active participants in this protest, even in the most dramatic form - through a hunger strike" - said Andrzej Halicki from Civic Platform at a press conference in the Sejm.

"Yesterday, the whole of Poland held its breath, and certainly parents, teachers, and students held their breath. We are in the situation of the greatest crisis, the greatest conflict in decades. Everyone expected these last-chance talks to be serious. The government put on a farce. The ministers arrived at the meeting unprepared, without concrete proposals, repeating what has been known for a long time. These are not serious solutions and proposals. Suddenly, in the middle of an election campaign, Prime Minister Szydło appeared unprepared, without any concrete proposals" - added Krystyna Szumilas.
