The meeting between Law and Justice (PiS) leader Jarosław Kaczyński and Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, head of the League party, has opened the way for further contacts. The conversations concerned accelerating the development of the European Union and ensuring the EU has its proper place on the global stage.
This was stated by the government spokesperson, Beata Mazurek, in a tweet published on Monday. "The meeting between Jarosław Kaczyński and Matteo Salvini has opened the way for further contacts. The conversations concerned accelerating the development of the European Union and ensuring the EU has its proper place on the global stage," Mazurek wrote.
The PiS leader and the head of the Italian League met in Warsaw on Sunday. The leaders discussed, among other things, the future of the European Union and the need to reform it.
According to the Polish Press Agency (PAP), the leaders of the two parties also discussed the "common vision" for Europe.
"We are building a common vision for Europe. A Europe of nations, a Europe of citizens, not a Europe of bureaucrats," Salvini said at a joint press conference with Kaczyński.
He stressed that the goal of the meeting was to strengthen cooperation between the two parties and to jointly "build a different Europe." He also emphasized that his party, the League, would like to see a "different Europe" than the one currently existing.
"We want to build a Europe of cooperation, a Europe of solidarity, a Europe of freedom," Salvini added.
Kaczyński, in turn, pointed out that the meeting was "very fruitful" and that it was "important for both countries, as well as for Europe." He also stated that the two parties had "agreed on many issues related to the future of the EU."
"We have many common points, and this meeting is a step towards building a stronger and more united Europe," Kaczyński concluded.
