Wednesday's Political Agenda: National Electoral Commission to Announce Local Election Results, Sejm Concludes Session, Senate Begins

The National Electoral Commission (PKW) will likely announce the official results of the local government elections today. Yesterday, its chairman, Wojciech Hermeliński, insisted that the release of the final results was a matter of hours rather than days.

Tuesday marks the second and final day of the Sejm's session. At **11:15 AM**, MPs will hear the government's current affairs report on the "Clean Air" program. Meanwhile, Sejm committees will continue their work on the 2019 budget. At **1:00 PM**, the parliamentary investigative committee for VAT fraud will interrogate former Minister of Justice, Andrzej Czuma.

The Senate session will commence at **11:00 AM**. The upper house will likely consider the bill, adopted by the Sejm overnight, establishing November 12, 2018, as a national holiday. Senators must also approve the appointment of Agnieszka Dudzińska as the Children's Ombudsman. Her candidacy was accepted by the Sejm overnight. Marshal Stanisław Karczewski's briefing is scheduled for **1:30 PM**.

November 12, 2018, Will Be a Public Holiday. Sejm Passes Bill

The Sejm, at lightning speed and without referring the bill to committee, has passed a draft law according to which November 12, 2018, will be a public holiday. PiS proposed three amendments, according to which public hospitals and pharmacies will operate on that day. The bill will now go to the Senate, which may consider it as early as Wednesday.

Sasin:

PSL Suffered a Devastating Defeat in These Elections

- The Civic Coalition achieved the same result as four years ago, when the Civic Platform ran alone, not Platforma plus Nowoczesna. As can be seen, the unification of the left, so loudly announced, yielded nothing. The PSL suffered a devastating defeat in these elections. The result, as everything indicates at the moment, will be half of what it was four years ago - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Daniel Wydrych and Piotr Goćk on "Sygnały Dnia" on Radio Jedynka.

07:36

Sasin on Coalition with PSL: We are Open, We Want to Talk, We Can Cooperate

- This coalition possibility stands before the PSL, and I am surprised that the leader of the PSL so readily dismisses the possibility of a coalition with Law and Justice. We are open, we want to talk, we can cooperate. And with the PSL, with the Non-Partisan Local Government Officials, and with other groups - said Jacek Sasin in a conversation with Daniel Wydrych and Piotr Goćek on "Sygnały Dnia" on Radio Jedynka.

07:40

Sasin:

"We Cannot View Poland Through the Lens of Large Cities. Poland Today is Poland of Smaller Towns, Villages."

- In large cities in Poland, approximately 15 percent of voters live. We cannot focus on them. Of course, they are important, but we cannot view Poland through the lens of large cities. Poland today is Poland of smaller towns, hamlets, villages. Poland is one - said Jacek Sasin in an interview with Daniel Wydrych and Piotr Goćek on "Sygnały Dnia" on Polskie Radio Program 1.

07:44

Sasin:

Zdanowska Shouldn't Be Treated Differently; Certain Regulations Can't Be Waived for Her While Binding Others

- It cannot be the case that Hanna Zdanowska is to be treated differently today. In some lenient way, or that certain regulations binding the rest of the citizens are not to apply to her. That would be a negation of the rule of law, the idea of a democratic state – said Jacek Sasin in a conversation with Daniel Wydrych and Piotr Goćka on "Sygnały Dnia" on Jedynka radio.

- The decision on further proceedings rests with the Voivode. The Voivode is the one who, according to the law, is to assess such cases. The Voivode will, according to the law, make such decisions – Sasin added.

07:57

Gowin:

We Should Rethink the Style of Conducting Politics. Ask Ourselves if Polarization Serves Us

- Indeed, large cities are the main reason why we should, after the elections, reflect on the mistakes made, but not even in this campaign. I think we should reflect on a certain style of conducting politics. We should ask ourselves if polarization serves us. We should ask ourselves what caused so many Poles, residents of large cities, to believe in the evident falsehood at the finish of the campaign, which are the accusations that we want to lead Poland out of the EU - stated Jarosław Gowin in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:00

Gowin:

I Didn't Expect We'd Have an Independent Majority in Six Regional Assemblies

- You are formulating a flawed criterion for success in politics. The criterion is not poll numbers. The criterion is real power that is grasped. I didn't expect we'd have an independent majority in six regional assemblies. Word of honor – stated Jarosław Gowin in an interview with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

08:07

Gowin:

PM Morawiecki did a titanic job. He is the great winner of these elections, yet he fell victim to a massive attack.

- I probably have the most distinguished expert in Poland in my party, Marshal Bielan, and even during the campaign he pointed out that Warsaw is not the most difficult area of confrontation for us. Directing the spotlight onto Warsaw inevitably makes it difficult to convince you, Mr. Editor, that we have indeed achieved a victory - stated Jarosław Gowin in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego". He added:

"[Mateusz Morawiecki] did a titanic job. He is the great winner of these elections, but he truly fell victim to a very massive attack. I say this not to complain, these are the rules of politics. Civic Coalition made him precisely that, in order to prevent him from attracting parts of the center voters, an object of a massive attack."

- As for settling scores with Minister Ziobro, there is no reason to hold anyone personally accountable. Politics is not a space where personal likes and dislikes matter. What matters is the common good, which is Poland, and secondly, the political camp. The good of the political camp requires us all to cooperate with each other - the Deputy Prime Minister continued.

08:13

Gowin Asked About PiS Refugee Spot: I Was Ashamed When It Was Released. Yes, It Was a Bad Spot

- I was ashamed [when his political camp released the refugee spot]. Yes, it was a bad spot. I don't know [who decided on it]. Those are the secrets of the election staff. I don't intend to ascertain it, let alone publicly discuss it - stated Jarosław Gowin in a conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24's "Rozmowa Piaseckiego".

As the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized, "it was certainly a bad spot". - If one is looking for reasons for a victory that wasn't as decisive as perhaps it was within our reach, then this is one of the reasons - he added.

08:21

Nowacka on a PSL-PiS Coalition: "It Would Be Their Local Demise"

- The result for PSL is below expectations. They lost councillors precisely to PiS. PSL lost, but after they tried to destroy them, after the campaign they ran locally, even the government spokesperson spoke of eliminating them, of eradicating them from public life. Fatal words. I am convinced that PSL will not go [for it]. Adding to that, they stood on the pro-democratic side. It would be their local demise, they would show that they are no different. Their voters voted consciously because they were on the pro-democratic side - said Barbara Nowacka in a conversation with Beata Lubecka on the program "Gość Radia ZET".

08:26

Nowacka on PiS: They think that by mocking big cities, they will surely win votes in smaller towns. Well, no, people aspire to bigger cities.

- You can't constantly insult and mock people. They think that by mocking big cities, they will surely win votes in smaller towns. Well, no, people aspire to bigger cities. They don't like at all that PiS chooses big cities as a target for attack - said Barbara Nowacka in a conversation with Beata Lubecka in the program "Gość Radia ZET".

08:28

Schetyna:

Civic Coalition Will Govern in Silesia. Talks with PSL and SLD Ongoing. Everything is Possible in Lower Silesia and Talks Will Be Necessary

“Silesia is alright. It will be the Civic Coalition. There is indeed a difference of one mandate between the Civic Coalition, PSL, and SLD, and PiS, but talks are ongoing. I am optimistic. I think we will manage to build an agreement. Then there is Lower Silesia, where in principle anything is possible and talks will be necessary. The Non-Partisan Local Governmentors are significant. They will decide which way this region will go between the Civic Coalition and PiS,” said the PO leader, Grzegorz Schetyna, on Radio TOK FM's Morning Show.

08:30

Nowacka:

The Biggest Loser of This Campaign is PMM

- In my opinion, the biggest loser of this campaign is Mateusz Morawiecki. Because from the noble, pro-European he whom PiS presented, he turned into who he really is, meaning a man who recently spoke the truth on tape. So he lied all along and doesn't see our successes in the European Union - said Barbara Nowacka in an interview with Beata Lubecka on the program "Gość Radia ZET".

08:32

Schetyna on Trzaskowski's First-Round Victory: "It was unprecedented. Few expected it. You have to know how to celebrate and keep mobilizing. This is the first step."

"[Trzaskowski's first-round victory] was unprecedented. Few expected it. There were some signals that it was possible, but only in the final hours of the election. A week earlier, no one considered it. A genuine, unfeigned explosion of joy. You have to know how to celebrate and you have to know how to draw conclusions and keep mobilizing. This is the first step. We've been saying this all along. I have already finished the stage of celebrating" - said the Civic Platform (PO) leader, Grzegorz Schetyna, in an interview with Piotr Kraśko on TOK FM.

08:35

Kuchciński:

The Sejm's Next Session Will Be Extended to 3 Days. It Will Last from November 7th to 9th

The Sejm's next session will be extended to three days and will take place from November 7th to 9th. This was announced by the Marshal of the Sejm, Marek Kuchciński, on Twitter.

The decision to extend the session was made due to the large number of legislative proposals to be discussed. The agenda includes, among others, the second reading of the draft law on amendments to the Act on Public Procurement, the second reading of the draft law on amendments to the Act on Tax Administration, and the first reading of the draft law on the amendment to the Act on Local Government Employees.

The Marshal of the Sejm also announced that during the next session, the Sejm will vote on the appointment of a new Ombudsman. The candidates are submitted by parliamentary clubs.

Majchrowski Files Election-Mode Lawsuit Against PMM

Jacek Majchrowski, the Mayor of Krakow, has filed a lawsuit against the Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, under election law procedures. The exact nature of the dispute and the specific claims made by Majchrowski were not immediately detailed in the initial report, which pointed to a tweet from Radio ZET NEWS as the source of the information.

Such legal actions taken during an election period often relate to alleged defamation, misuse of public resources for campaigning, or other electoral code violations. The use of "election mode" implies that the case is being expedited or handled with specific urgency due to its proximity to the election dates.

Further details are expected to emerge as the legal proceedings unfold.

Budka on the November 12th holiday: An absurd idea. Another populist move. In my opinion, a misguided one.

"An absurd idea. I did not support this idea for a simple reason. If one wants to create a day off, even if they have good intentions, it should be done much earlier. Employers arrange their work schedules accordingly. Another populist move. In my opinion, a misguided move" - said Borys Budka from Civic Platform (PO) in an interview with Piotr Witwicki on Polsat News.

Misiło on Nowoczesna's Election Results: It's Difficult for Me to Say How Many Mayors Today. It's Hard.

- It's difficult for me to say how many mayors today. It's hard. I know we have a mayor. I know we supported Jacek Sutryk in Wrocław. Please understand that we are part of the Civic Coalition – said Piotr Misiło in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus's "Sedno Sprawy" (The Heart of the Matter).

- It's not the case that you need to have a mayor to be in politics. Of course, it's great if you have one, but in Wrocław, we will have a deputy mayor, which is quite obvious. If we had won in the cities where we supported the Civic Coalition, we would have had deputy mayors. In Poznań, we will have our deputy mayor. You can also conduct politics by having a city council chairman, councilors, a deputy mayor, department directors. That's how politics is done – Misiło added.

10:09

Misiło:

It's No Great Secret That We Have Obligations of Around Two Million Zlotys. Petru's Financial Policy and Control Led Us to This State
All obligations currently within Nowoczesna were incurred by Ryszard Petru when he was the leader of Nowoczesna. Of course, these are Nowoczesna's obligations, but I would like to ask Ryszard to remember who created these debts and who was responsible for the financial report. Because he was the head of the party at the time. If he writes on Twitter today that he would gladly help or that Nowoczesna has obligations, I say, know your place, my dear sir – said Piotr Misiło in an interview with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus's "Sedno Sprawy" (The Heart of the Matter). I won't go into details, but it's no great secret that we have obligations today amounting to around two million zlotys. They are being paid on time. This isn't bailiffs. They are secured in one of our accounts. We are just about to sign an agreement. It is no secret that Ryszard Petru's financial policy and financial control led us to this state – Misiło added.

10:33

Sutryk:

I Count on Cooperation with Everyone. The Only Criterion for this Cooperation is the Good of the City
Today is a joyous and sunny day. We have the official results. Almost 130,000 votes from the residents of Wrocław have decided that I will be the president of Wrocław, elected in the first round. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who cast their vote for me. I would like to ask for the trust of all those who voted for my opponents. I will want to convince you of myself, of my program in the coming time. I would like to congratulate all the city councillors, with whom I will jointly care for Wrocław for the next 5 years. I count on cooperation with everyone. The only criterion for this cooperation is the good of the city” - said Jacek Sutryk, the winner of the presidential elections in Wrocław, at a press conference.

Trzaskowski Elected Mayor of Warsaw. National Election Commission Announces Official Results

Rafał Trzaskowski secured 56.67% of the votes, while Patryk Jaki received 28.53%. Following them were Marek Jakubiak and Jan Śpiewak, each with 2.99%. The National Election Commission announced the official results of the Warsaw mayoral election today.

Schetyna on PAD's Words in Berlin: The Way of Speaking About Politics and Serious Matters is Below a Certain Level

- However, one must be able to speak less, or at least not say things that harm the image of Poland and the Polish president – said Grzegorz Schetyna in an interview with TVN24.

- Are these blunders or a strategy? – the Civic Platform leader was pressed.

- It doesn't matter, because the most important thing is that the president is already associated with functioning that is not worthy of a head of state and guardian of the constitution, and on the other hand, the comments and the way of speaking about politics and serious matters are below a certain level. All of this is a terrible combination and terribly builds the image of the head of state – stated Schetyna.

12:33

Tusk:

One Election Outcome is Clear to Me. Today's Rulers in Poland Should Not Make Decisions as if They Had 100% or 90% Support
Who won the election is a question for the National Election Commission, of course. One outcome of these elections is obvious to me. Today's rulers in Poland should not make decisions as if they had 100% or 90% support. Sometimes, especially when the assault on the Polish judiciary began, the rulers invoked the will of the sovereign, meaning the general public. When they bypassed or disregarded the Constitution, they also gave the impression of being convinced they had 100% support for these actions. These elections have shown one thing. That Poles, which is completely understandable in a democracy, are divided in their opinions. That no one in Poland has the authority to violate or break the principles and rules once adopted by the majority of Poles. Personally, of course, I am very pleased with the good results of many of my friends. Purely on a human level. I was indeed very happy with the results in Łódź and Warsaw. Also because I have been friends with the winners of these elections for years and I have full confidence in them - stated Donald Tusk in a conversation with journalists.

12:37

Tusk on Kosiniak-Kamysz: It's a Concept Akin to Today's Trendy 'Fake News'

- I had the opportunity to cooperate with Mr. Kosiniak-Kamysz in my government. I value him very highly, but I have no plans or ideas for the future that would correspond to the sensations that appeared today on several portals. So many interesting things are happening in Poland and in the world in recent days that there's no need to invent any additional sensations. And this, however, is a concept akin to today's trendy term 'fake news' - stated Donald Tusk in an interview with journalists.

12:42

Tusk:

I Won't Join in Malice and Mockery Towards the Polish President. When He Seems Lost, He Needs Our Support

- I will not join in the malice and mockery directed at the Polish President. When he appears lost in his arguments, he rather needs our support, at least our benevolent patience. So, please allow me not to join this choir of malicious critics and jokers today. I think that, yes, sometimes one needs to think with greater patience about the President. Especially when his arguments are not always convincing - stated Donald Tusk in a conversation with journalists.

Constitutional Amendment Bill to Increase Senate Seats to 102 Submitted. Karczewski: A Symbolic Thank You to Polonia for Their Contribution to Regaining Independence.
“A bill to amend the Constitution, increasing the number of senators from 100 to 102, will be submitted shortly. Two seats for senators will be dedicated to senators elected by Polonia. One for a future senator from east of our border, the second from the west. This is how we plan it. I hope that on the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence, all clubs, all senators, and later deputies, will vote in agreement. This will be a symbolic thank you to Polonia for their immense contribution to regaining independence and its enduring stability,” said Marshal Stanisław Karczewski at a briefing.

14:14

Karczewski:

We Always Said We Would Comply with ECJ Rulings. We'll See What the Response to Our Response Will Be

"We always said that we would comply with the rulings of the ECJ, so this will be implemented. However, we will now wait for the response to our response and see what the further reactions will be. We have strong arguments, and we will present them. We will see what the ECJ's reaction will be" - said Marshal Stanisław Karczewski in the Senate.

14:21

Karczewski:

We Want to Expand Coalition Opportunities in Regional Assemblies. I Am Surprised by the PSL Chairman's Stance. The PSL is Becoming an Anti-Coalition Party

We want to expand coalition opportunities [in the regional assemblies]. I am surprised by the stance of the PSL chairman, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, because he speaks so sharply and decisively about not entering into any coalitions, meaning the PSL is becoming an anti-coalition party. It doesn't want coalitions. This surprises me greatly. It is worth noting that PiS won independently in 6 voivodeships” – said Marshal Stanisław Karczewski.

14:22

Trzaskowski:

Warsaw Chose Its Path – European, Tolerant, Open. Despite a Campaign Full of PiS Manipulations, We Won.

- The [National Electoral Commission] has announced the official election results. I am tremendously happy and would like to thank the residents of Warsaw for their incredible mobilization and support. Warsaw has chosen its path – European, tolerant, and open. Despite a campaign filled with much manipulation and lies from PiS, we managed to win. But most importantly, we managed to mobilize the people of Warsaw to rally and vote on an issue as important as defending our values, to feel the power of their vote – stated Rafał Trzaskowski at a press briefing.

14:29

Trzaskowski:

Unlike PiS, I want to be the president of all Warsaw residents

- It indeed happened, and for that I wanted to thank you above all, that I managed to win in every Warsaw district. This is a reason for immense pride, but I also feel the strength of this commitment. There weren't many such places, but there were places where Patryk Jaki won, in some polling stations, including here, in Targówek. It also happened in the polling stations in Ursus, Włochy, and Rembertów. I wanted to tell you that the first steps I will take will be directed precisely to such places where I had a weaker result. In districts like Praga Północ or Targówek, I also managed to win, but the result there was relatively weaker. These will be the places to which I will direct my first steps, because I want to find out what problems concern the residents of Warsaw in these areas - stated Rafał Trzaskowski at a briefing.

- Above all, I want to dedicate myself to those who placed a little less trust in me. I want to concentrate on them - he emphasized. - Unlike PiS, I want to be the president of all Warsaw residents. Unlike PiS, I do not intend to concentrate solely on those who vote for me, because that is what the PiS government says, but I would like to dedicate myself in my work to the residents of Warsaw from all districts - he added.

14:31

Trzaskowski:

I will present a plan for fulfilling my first promises next week

- I will definitely present a plan for fulfilling these first promises next week. I will specify exactly when they will be fulfilled, even before taking office as the Mayor of Warsaw - stated Rafał Trzaskowski at a briefing.

14:34

Trzaskowski:

Rabiej Will Be Vice-Mayor of Warsaw

- First, next week, we will discuss the implementation of program promises, and then I will certainly present to you the people with whom I will cooperate. Today, one thing is certain: Paweł Rabiej will be vice-mayor. As for other personnel, we will discuss this in the coming weeks - stated Rafał Trzaskowski at a briefing.

16:27

Bielan on Election Results: PSL Leadership Will Struggle to Convince Their Activists This Was a Success

- The party that lost the most in terms of the number of regional assembly councilors is certainly the Polish People's Party (PSL). Knowing this party, knowing the fact that it is probably the only party in Poland for which local government elections are more important than parliamentary ones, I think that the leadership of the PSL will have great difficulty convincing their activists that this was a success - said Adam Bielan in an interview with Łukasz Mężyk on Radio Koszalin.

16:39

Bielan on ECJ Ruling: We Cannot Abandon the Core Principles of Judicial Reform

- There will be no conflicting voices. We discussed this at length at the coalition council meeting the day before yesterday, and a certain strategy is emerging in this matter. I can assure everyone that we will do nothing that could jeopardize our position in the European Union. Similar declarations were made by the Minister of Justice, who is the politician most directly interested in this issue – said Adam Bielan in an interview with Łukasz Mężyk on Radio Koszalin.

- We have repeatedly stated to European representatives that we are ready for dialogue, and when it comes to the reform of the justice system, we cannot abandon its core principles. We are obligated to do so by the votes of our electorate – Bielan added.

16:56

Jarubas:

We Cannot Imagine a Coalition with an Anti-Local Government Party Like PiS

- What we can say, and this is a unified voice for the entire party, all 16 regions, representing our colleagues today. We cannot imagine a coalition with an anti-local government party like PiS - stated Adam Jarubas at a briefing.

17:21

Kolarski for 300: Using the Light Bulb Example, PAD Highlights the Growing Divide Between Brussels and EU Citizens

- Using the example of light bulbs, President Andrzej Duda drew attention to the problem of the growing distance between Brussels and a large portion of European Union citizens. EU decisions are often incomprehensible to them, which does not remain without impact on anti-EU rhetoric - stated Wojciech Kolarski in an interview with 300POLITYKA. - It is clear to the President that we can build a strong and effective European Union only together with EU citizens, not alongside them - added the presidential minister.

17:37

Bielan Announces Audit of Local Election Campaign: 'We Don't Want to Cause Any Personal Disputes Here'

- We agreed that we would prepare such a thorough, detailed audit of the campaign. We will do it calmly after the elections. These elections are still ongoing, after all, we have a second round in very many cities and villages. We don't want to cause any personal disputes or unnecessary emotions here – said Adam Bielan in an interview with Wyborcza.

18:02

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

A rival party will not appoint leaders, now or ever, for the PSL, regardless of who the leader is

[PiS] is a party that doesn't look at what's happening within its own ranks. If I were in Beata Mazurek's position, I would probably be more interested in what's happening in her party. If she wants to join the PSL and decide on its leader, she must meet specific conditions and go through a procedure. There is a 6-month waiting period after being in another party, so that's truly the only way to decide on the leader of a democratic movement like the PSL. A rival party will certainly not appoint leaders, now or ever, for the PSL, regardless of who the leader is. This concern from Ms. Mazurek is well-known, as she expressed it during the election campaign, stating that the PSL must be eliminated from public life” - said the leader of the PSL, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, in an interview with Karolina Lewicka on TOK FM's „Wywiad polityczny” (Political Interview).

18:09

Kosiniak-Kamysz:

I am happy we defended the Polish People's Party. No one was attacked as much as we were in this campaign
I am happy that we defended the Polish People's Party (PSL). This is a certainty. The massive attacks of the last three years, and even more gigantic attacks over the last three months, since July, when Prime Minister Morawiecki said in almost every sentence that [everything] was the PSL's fault – no one was attacked as much as we were in this campaign. I feel enormous support from my colleagues. And not just regional leaders, but also those who are sending SMS messages today saying, 'It's great that we are finally a formation that doesn't equivocate',” said the leader of the Peasants, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, on TOK FM in a conversation with Karolina Lewicka. The [election] result is good in terms of the number of votes, because everything indicates it will be around 2 million votes across Poland. That's three times more than in 2015, which means immense trust. Local government elections have never been so politicized,” he added.

19:40

Trzaskowski:

I Won't Pretend Patryk Jaki is a Politician I Value. I Dislike This Way of Doing Politics

19:45

Trzaskowski on the Future of Warsaw City Hall: No Purges, But a Thorough Audit

- I don't want to talk about individuals. First, I want to inform how I will fulfill my election promises. There will certainly be no purges, but there will be a thorough audit. There will certainly be people with whom I want to cooperate. Some will have to change their positions – said Rafał Trzaskowski in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program "Wydarzenia i Opinie" on Polsat News.

- We have made the decision to discuss this. Certainly, my wife, as she herself told me, will not be working at the City Hall, and she will probably find another job in a few months – Trzaskowski added.

19:50

Trzaskowski:

I don't dream of leaving a monument. I want people to say in five years that the quality of life in Warsaw has improved immensely.

- First and foremost, I would like the senior policy to change completely, for there to be more day care homes for seniors. These are not spectacular things. I don't dream of leaving behind a monument, like one magnificent bridge. I would like people to be able to say in five years' time that the quality of life in Warsaw has improved immensely - said Rafał Trzaskowski in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program "Wydarzenia i Opinie" (Events and Opinions) on Polsat News.

19:54

Trzaskowski:

I Value Credibility in Politics. I Have No Intention of Resigning from the Board or the Party

- I am not ashamed of my party. First and foremost, I value credibility in politics. I don't change my mind every moment; I am not ashamed of being a member of Civic Platform and Civic Coalition. Therefore, I have no intention of resigning from the board, nor do I intend to leave the party – said Rafał Trzaskowski in an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on the program „Wydarzenia i Opinie” (Events and Opinions) on Polsat News.

20:23

Kopacz on CJEU ruling: If you accept your presence in the Union, you must come to terms with it

Those who question European law will also question the decisions of European institutions. If the CJEU imposes a safeguard, we must today go back to the moment when these changes were made, indicating that those who were retired due to age must return to work. One must come to terms with it if one accepts one's presence in the Union” - said former Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz in an interview with Monika Olejnik on TVN24's "Kropka nad i".

20:28

Kopacz:

PSL Will Contribute Fewer Regional Assembly Seats to the Coalition with Civic Coalition Than 4 Years Ago. Kosiniak-Kamysz is a Recognized Leader of PSL with a Very Strong Position

"The number of votes cast for PSL is similar. However, they forgot that the turnout was significantly higher. One thing is certain – PSL has definitely received fewer mandates in the regional assemblies. It turns out that the D'Hondt method favors the strongest. Today, as the part that will form a coalition in the regional assemblies together with the Civic Coalition, they will contribute less than they did 4 years ago" – said former Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz in an interview with Monika Olejnik on TVN24.

"I know Kosiniak-Kamysz. He was a man who worked in my government, a very decent man. Generally, once he publicly stated that this is how it would look and what his sincere intentions and feelings were after what happened during the election campaign, or rather PiS did not give him a chance for PSL to like PiS. He is today a recognized leader of PSL with a very strong position" – she added.

I am proud of Patryk Jaki. I am very happy that I have had and continue to have the opportunity to cooperate with him. He achieved the best result since 2006

I am proud of Patryk Jaki. I am very happy that I have had and continue to have the opportunity to cooperate with him. He is an exceptionally dynamic, very intelligent, and very energetic person, and the more people like him there were in politics, the better. He spoke with us. He presented an offer to the residents of Warsaw. He wanted it not to be just a party offer, but he wanted to be the president of all Warsaw residents. He achieved the best result since 2006” - said Minister Beata Kempa in an interview with Monika Olejnik on TVN24’s “Kropka nad i”.

DAY'S HEADLINE: PiS Senator Stanisławek: Half a Step Back on the Supreme Court, Conflict with the EC Doesn't Serve Us, Ociepa: Probing in Mazowsze, News: PiS Will Try to Build Majorities Through Transfers
-- LIVEBLOG 300POLITYKI: Kempa: I am proud of Patryk Jaki. I am very glad that I had and have the opportunity to cooperate with him. He achieved the best result since 2006. Tusk: While joining the congratulations to Trzaskowski, I would also like to thank HGW for 12 years of excellent presidency. Kopacz: PSL will contribute fewer mandates to the coalition with KO in regional assemblies than 4 years ago. Kosiniak-Kamysz is a recognized leader of PSL with a very strong position. Kopacz on the ECJ ruling: If you accept your presence in the Union, you must reconcile yourself to it. Trzaskowski: I value credibility in politics. I do not intend to resign from the board, nor do I intend to leave the party. Trzaskowski: I do not have a dream of leaving behind a monument. I would like people to be able to say in five years that the quality of life in Warsaw has improved enormously. Trzaskowski on the future of the Warsaw City Hall: There will certainly be no purge, but there will be a thorough audit. Trzaskowski: I will not pretend that Patryk Jaki is a politician I value. I do not like this way of conducting politics. Kosiniak-Kamysz: I am happy that we have defended the Polish People's Party. No one was attacked as much as we were in this campaign. Kosiniak-Kamysz: A competing party will not appoint leaders, neither now nor in the future of PSL, regardless of who the leader is. Bielan announces an audit of the local government campaign: We do not want to cause any personal disputes here. Kolarski for 300: Using the example of light bulbs, PAD pointed to the problem of a growing distance between Brussels and a large part of EU citizens. Bielan on election results: The leadership of PSL will have great difficulty convincing their activists that this was a success. Trzaskowski: Next week, I will present a plan for the implementation of the first promises. Trzaskowski: Unlike PiS, I want to be the president of all Varsovians. https://300polityka.pl/live/2018/10/24/ ***** WYDARZENIA POLSATU -- GRAND VOTE COUNTING, BUT WITH PROBLEMS - announcement. -- 70 HOURS - THIS IS HOW LONG THE VOTE COUNTING HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE SUNDAY'S ELECTIONS - Dariusz Ociepa: According to still unofficial data, PiS won in 9 regional assemblies, and KO in 7. But winning does not always mean governing. -- PIS HAS A MAJORITY ON ITS OWN IN 6 REGIONAL ASSEMBLIES, AND HAS A CHANCE TO GOVERN IN ANOTHER TWO - Ociepa continues. -- MORE [IN LOWER SILESIA] WILL PROBABLY BE GIVEN TO PIS - Ociepa. -- NEGOTIATIONS ARE ALSO UNDERWAY IN SILESIA - Ociepa continues: Here, everything depends on two SLD councilors. -- ACCORDING TO UNOFFICIAL INFORMATION, THE SLD LEADER WILL KEEP HIS WORD, BUT THERE IS A QUESTION OF EVALUATION - Ociepa: According to Platform politicians, SLD demanded the position of Marshal. -- PSL HAS ONCE AGAIN SAID "NO" TO PIS POLITICIANS - Ociepa continues. -- PIS IS TRYING TO WIN OVER THE PEASANTS FROM WITHIN - Ociepa. -- PIS WILL TRY TO SWAY INDIVIDUAL ACTIVISTS TO GAIN MAJORITIES IN MORE REGIONAL ASSEMBLIES - Ociepa continues. -- ACCORDING TO OUR INFORMATION, SUCH PROBING IS CURRENTLY TAKING PLACE IN MAZOWSZE - Ociepa. -- POST-ELECTION BRAWL IN ALEKSANDRÓW ŁÓDZKI. -- THE POLISH PRESIDENT'S WORDS ARE ALREADY BEING COMMENTED ON ACROSS EUROPE. -- THE PRESIDENT'S VISIT TO BERLIN ALSO MADE A BIG ECHO FOR THIS REASON - Agnieszka Milczarz: In the report, PAD's statement about light bulbs. -- DONALD TUSK'S STATEMENT ABOUT PAD. -- LOT AIRLINE EMPLOYEES' STRIKE IS ONGOING. ***** FAKTY TVN -- We have to wait longer for the official results. The National Electoral Commission is still counting votes and checking protocols. Slowly, because each mandate can determine who holds power in the regional assembly. Not only political parties will matter, because, for example, in Lower Silesia, the decisive vote now belongs to independents. -- PIS, AS USUAL, WILL TRY TO BUY EVERYONE, BECAUSE THAT IS THEIR METHOD - Sławomir Neumann. -- PIS WON IN 9 REGIONAL ASSEMBLIES, BUT CAN COUNT ON GOVERNING INDEPENDENTLY IN 6 - THAT'S STILL 5 MORE ASSEMBLIES THAN BEFORE - Arleta Zalewska. -- THE FIGHT IS ON FOR LOWER SILESIA, WHERE INDEPENDENT LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS HOLD THE KEY TO ULTIMATE VICTORY - Zalewska. -- BOTH SIDES MEET THE CONDITION FOR THE MARSHAL POSITION, SO WE ARE INTERESTED IN A CONTRACT FOR THE VOIVODESHIP - Robert Raczyński. -- THE LOSS OF THIS VOIVODESHIP WOULD BE SYMBOLIC FOR G. SCHETYNA - Zalewska. -- I HOPE WE WILL BE ABLE TO SAY THAT WE HAVE BUILT A COALITION IN 10 REGIONAL ASSEMBLIES - Grzegorz Schetyna. -- IT WAS SAID THAT THE NEXT ELECTIONS MIGHT BRING A CONSTITUTIONAL MAJORITY FOR PIS, SO LET'S SAY IT HONESTLY: WE STOPPED PIS IN MORE THAN HALF OF THE REGIONAL ASSEMBLIES AND IN CITIES - Katarzyna Lubnauer. -- THE OPINION THAT WITH SUCH GIGANTIC GOVERNMENT EXPENDITURES, THE RESULT SHOULD BE GREATER IS NOT ISOLATED IN PIS - Zalewska. -- THE PRESIDENT HAS ALREADY ORDERED AN ANALYSIS OF THE CAUSES OF SOME MISTAKES - Zalewska. -- THE PRESIDENT HAS ORDERED A CALM AUDIT OF THE CAMPAIGN - Adam Bielan. -- IF ONE SAYS THAT 5 BRIDGES CAN BE BUILT WITHOUT PROBLEM, PEOPLE KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES TO BUILD ONE BRIDGE, SO THEY MAY HAVE DOUBTS WHETHER SUCH A DECLARATION HAS A BASIS - Senator Jackowski. -- HALF A STEP BACK ON THE SUPREME COURT AND AN UNNECESSARY CONFLICT WITH THE EC, THIS CONFLICT DOES NOT SERVE US - Senator Stanisławek from PiS. -- The ruling party is either waiting for the election results or has no concrete plan on what to do with the law on the Supreme Court suspended by the Court of Justice of the European Union. Perhaps an amendment, perhaps an appeal against the decision. Meanwhile, more judges are returning to work. -- THE COURT ORDERS IMMEDIATE IMPLEMENTATION OF PRECAUTIONS AND THE CREATION OF MEANS FOR JUDGES TO PERFORM THEIR FUNCTIONS IN THE SAME POSITIONS - Judge Laskowski. -- THEY ARE RETIRED - Deputy Minister Warchoł. -- THE LAW HAS CAUSED IRREVERSIBLE LEGAL CONSEQUENCES - Marek Ast. -- POLAND ABIDES BY AND WILL ABIDE BY EU LAW - Warchoł. -- THE PROCEDURE FOR REAPPOINTING JUDGES IS TO RESUME WITHIN A MONTH - Warchoł. -- This is the end of the confusion, but it took three attempts for PiS to finally choose a candidate for the Children's Ombudsman. This is Agnieszka Dudzińska, whom PiS did not support two weeks ago. The previous candidate withdrew on her own. -- Traditional light bulbs were phased out in the EU to save billions of euros, but according to President Andrzej Duda, this could be one of the examples of a deficit of democracy in the European Union. During the 19th Polish-German Forum on Tuesday, the Polish President raised the question of whether this deficit of democracy was not one of the reasons for Brexit. These words caused many comments. -- I GET THE IMPRESSION THAT THE HOSTS DID NOT LAUGH AT THIS JOKE AND MAY HAVE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED THAT THE POLISH PRESIDENT IS REDUCING DEMOCRACY IN THE UNION TO THE PROBLEM OF LIGHT BULBS - Bronisław Komorowski. -- PDT'S WORDS ABOUT KIND PATIENCE. -- SINCE ITS EXISTENCE, THE EU HAS GIVEN STATES PEACE AND LARGE SUMS OF MONEY, AND THANKS TO ENERGY-SAVING LIGHT BULBS, BETTER AND LESS HARMFUL ENERGY USE - Sobieniowski. -- MANY PEOPLE MISS ASBESTOS LIKE PAD MISSES LIGHT BULBS OR MERCURY THERMOMETERS - Andrzej Olechowski. -- EUROSCEPTICS IN GREAT BRITAIN USED ANTI-POLISH SLOGANS - -- PAD WAS IN THE SAME GROUP AS CONSERVATIVES WHO ASSURED THEY DID NOT WANT BREXIT, JUST AS PIS ASSURES TODAY THEY DO NOT WANT POLEXIT - Sobieniowski. -- PiS wanted to take over the regional assemblies, Civic Coalition wanted to prove that two parties are better than one. PSL wanted to stay afloat, and SLD wanted to remind everyone that they are still active. In the elections, Poland was divided politically. Not for the first time. We have had the first real test of political support in three years. -- IT'S A DRAW - KKZ: What can be concluded from these elections, given all their local specifics? Generally speaking, there is a draw between PiS and Civic Coalition. -- PIS WANTED TO CONFIRM A CRUSHING MAJORITY, IT DID NOT CONFIRM IT - KKZ: Neither PiS nor Platform can be fully satisfied with these elections. PiS wanted to confirm a crushing majority and get a mandate for further changes. It did not confirm it. The ruling party, as before, was supported by one-third of Poles. -- THE PLATFORM WANTED TO PROVE THAT THE OPPOSITION TO THE SO-CALLED GOOD CHANGE IS OVERWHELMING. IT SEEMS NOT - KKZ. -- TRIBES DESPISE EACH OTHER - KKZ: The tribes speak different languages and, what's worse, despise each other. This language excludes debate, so both sides have dug in their positions. The elections showed that PiS has a core electorate, especially in eastern and southern Poland. Over 30 percent support is constant. But it is not growing. -- PO ALSO KNOWS THAT KO IS NOT ENOUGH - KKZ: The conclusion from these elections is that PiS has something to worry about, because it is difficult for them to broaden their electorate. They did not manage to take over the countryside entirely. The Platform, in coalition with Nowoczesna, also knows after the elections that this coalition is not enough to defeat PiS. This remaining world consists of voters to be won over. These are the uninterested and indifferent. This is the left, defeated again in the elections. Combining these electorates can lead to victory over PiS. The electoral system favors this, after all. -- THE CEMENTED SCENE IS NOT CRUMBLING - KKZ: But the most important thing for all politicians are the parliamentary elections in 2019. Both the opposition and PiS must develop a new strategy for wooing voters. The cemented political scene is not crumbling. -- NEW DAY OFF - IT WON'T BE CHEAP: It won't be cheap, but the Sejm has decided. There will be an additional day off to rest on November 12th after celebrating Independence Day. There was a dispute in the Sejm about this. Opponents said that an additional day off could cost the Polish economy up to 7 billion zlotys. -- STRIKE AT LOT: So far, they have secured access to toilets and places to warm up and make tea. This is where the good news for the striking LOT trade unionists ends. The company's CEO is sending demands for huge compensation to the crews. Real compromise is lacking. ***** WIADOMOŚCI TVP -- PIS WITH AN EVEN BETTER RESULT THAN THE FIRST SURVEYS INDICATED AFTER SUNDAY'S VOTE - announcement: Unofficial information is that PiS exceeds 33.5%. This means the best result in the history of all local government elections and a huge increase in regional assembly seats - up to 50% more. -- EVERYTHING INDICATES THAT PIS WILL BE UNCHALLENGED IN THE FIGHT FOR SEATS IN THE REGIONAL ASSEMBLIES - Marcin Szypszak. -- THE OBTAINED RESULTS WILL ALLOW PIS TO FORM INDEPENDENT REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS: MAZOWIA, ŚWIĘTOKRZYSKIE, LUBELSKIE AND ŁÓDZKIE - Szypszak. -- IN MAZOWSZE, UPPER AND LOWER SILESIA, PIS WILL NOT HAVE A MAJORITY ON ITS OWN - Szypszak. -- PIS WILL TRY TO BUILD MAJORITIES BASED ON POLITICAL TRANSFERS - Szypszak: If this does not succeed, the losers, i.e., KO, would take on coalition building. -- KO TOOK FIRST PLACE IN POMORZE, WARMIA AND MAZURY, KUJAWY-POMORZE, WIELKOPOLSKA, LUBUSZ AND OPOLE REGION - Szypszak. -- PO, WHICH TOGETHER WITH PSL RULED IN 15 VOIVODESHIPS UNTIL NOW, HAS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED ITS HOLDINGS - Szypszak. -- NOVEMBER 16TH WILL BE A SAD DAY FOR MANY PSL POLITICIANS WHO WILL LEAVE LOCAL GOVERNMENTS - announcement: Of all parties, PSL is losing the most, almost half of its support, half of its regional assemblies, and more than half of its seats in regional assemblies. The leader tries to explain that this is not a huge defeat. -- BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, THE PSL LEADER SPOKE WITH PARTY BARONS - Karol Jałtuszewski: Official message: there will be no local coalitions with PiS. -- OFFICIAL WORDS OF SUPPORT FOR LEADER KOSINIAK-KAMYSZ ARE ALSO BEING HEARD - Jałtuszewski: WKK also assures that the election results are a success for PSL. -- LESS OFFICIALLY, THE PEASANT PARTY ADMITS THAT THE RESULT IS BELOW ASPIRATIONS. AND COMPLETELY UNOFFICIALLY, PSL ACTIVISTS ARE TERRIFIED BY THE SCALE OF THE DEFEAT - Jałtuszewski. -- THE SCENARIO IS BEING HEARD MORE AND MORE LOUDLY ACCORDING TO WHICH INDIVIDUAL PEASANT PARTY MEMBERS, AGAINST THEIR LEADER'S WISHES, WILL SUPPORT A PI(S) MAJORITY IN THE REGIONAL ASSEMBLIES - Jałtuszewski. -- SOME ACTIVISTS FEAR THAT WITH THE CURRENT LEADER, PSL WILL NOT BE IN THE NEXT SEJM - Jałtuszewski. -- THE SEJM ADOPTED THE LAW ON THE NATIONAL HOLIDAY ON THE OCCASION OF THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF REGAINING INDEPENDENCE - announcement: November 12th this year will be a day off work. -- ACCORDING TO THE PORTAL WPOLITYCE.PL, 22 SUPREME COURT JUDGES WHO WERE RETIRED IN JULY AND SEPTEMBER RECEIVED OVER PLN 3 MILLION IN SEVERANCE PAYMENTS IN TOTAL. After the ECJ decision, the judges reported for work, raising the question of returning the severance pay - without material. -- THE VAT INVESTIGATIVE COMMITTEE QUESTIONED ANDRZEJ CZUMA - announcement: The former Minister of Justice testified that he did not interfere in the affairs of other prosecutors. And he should have, so that tax criminals would not go unpunished.

State Electoral Commission Presents Results for Mayors and City Presidents

The State Electoral Commission (PKW) has announced the official results for mayors, city presidents, and village heads.

Nationwide, voter turnout was 54.9%. A total of 1.15% of votes cast were invalid. Detailed results are available on the website wybory2018.pkw.gov.pl, along with a full list of municipalities where a second round of voting will take place on November 4th.

"This is only the first part of the results. We are still awaiting the remaining results. We are waiting for the commissioners' announcements regarding the regional assemblies. We want to announce them tonight, within the next few hours. It is difficult for me to say when that will be, whether it will be in another 2 hours or 4. If all the commissioners' announcements concerning the regional assemblies are ready, the PKW will undoubtedly appear again and announce these results, regardless of the time of day or night," stated the chairman of the PKW, Judge Wojciech Hermeliński, shortly after 11 PM on Wednesday.
