We Must Work, Work, and Work Again. The Election Campaign Has Begun, Ending in May 2020. A Lot of Hard Work Lies Ahead, But We Will Manage

- We will have to, this is my main message, work very hard over the next year. Also, so that in the final moments before the elections, various blows do not fall upon us, as happened this time. I would very much like the next elections in Poland to proceed in a better atmosphere, and for what is called 'fake news' in this new Polish to be much, much less - said Jarosław Kaczyński after the announcement of the exit poll results of the local government elections.

- We must work, work, and work again. The election campaign has begun, which will end in May 2020. A lot of hard work lies ahead of us, but we will manage – the chairman added.

Łapiński for 300: PiS Won Fourth Consecutive Election, But Now Must Explain to Voters Why the Result Differs from Polls and is Lower

First exit poll results are commented on by former presidential spokesperson Krzysztof Łapiński.

We have the exit poll results. Perhaps the final results will be slightly different. But they probably won't be fundamentally different. What can be concluded from this? Law and Justice has won its fourth consecutive election, but now it will have to explain to voters why the result differs from the polls and is lower. PiS should have been explaining for many months that local government elections, due to their specificity, are very difficult for parties and one should not expect results like those in recent parliamentary elections or polls.

The PiS campaign leaves much to be desired. It will not be associated with new, original ideas, the dynamism, and effectiveness that was present in the two winning campaigns of 2015.

This campaign certainly has its heroes. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who did titanic work during the campaign and thanks to whom a victory was achieved. Of course, the support of party leader Jarosław Kaczyński was very important, not only in terms of his presence at many conventions, but perhaps more so for the support he gave the prime minister during the tape crisis. Jarosław Kaczyński cut through all speculation regarding the prime minister, giving a clear signal that he continues to enjoy his support.

A mistake in the Law and Justice campaign was coming out too late with the message about the necessity of good cooperation between the government and local authorities. This message was visible in the last dozen or so days of the campaign in the speeches of the prime minister and the PiS leader. However, it was not embedded in a comprehensive communication strategy: commercials, billboards, events. It was promoted too little by the candidates themselves, and when some tried to use it, they did so in a clumsy manner.

Local government elections, if only because of their local nature and the fact that we elect local officials at various levels, will likely allow each of the main parties to find a justification to be happy with their results. Someone will win in the regional assemblies (sejmiki), another will have mayors of large cities, others will boast of a result better than the polls, and for a non-parliamentary party, exceeding the 5 percent threshold for regional assemblies will give hope for a return to parliament. Such is the specificity of these elections. They are important because they are also a test, similar to the European elections, before the main event which will be the parliamentary elections in a year. Then, only the party (or parties) that will govern or co-govern will be the winner. The most important battle will be decided then.

PMM:

We Still Need to Improve Certain Things, We Have a Chance to Reach All Poles and Convince Them, Because We See That Step by Step We Are Convincing More and More of Our Citizens
The most important thing for us is work, humility, and service, meaning further hard work for victory in the European Parliament elections and for our national parliament in a year. This is within reach, this is the most important thing that we realized during these elections, that reaching voters is the most important thing, and we are doing it better and better. We still need to improve certain things, we have a chance to reach all Poles and convince them, because it is evident that step by step we are convincing more and more of our citizens – said Mateusz Morawiecki after the announcement of the exit poll results for the local government elections.

Schetyna:

I Want to Thank All Those Civic Coalition Members Who Won Today and Are a Symbol of Our Victory
I want to thank the people of Civic Platform, but above all Nowoczesna and Inicjatywa Polska, Barbara Nowacka, and Katarzyna Lubnauer. I want to thank all those who helped us in the campaign, but especially those who ran. Over 10,000 candidates. I especially want to congratulate those who managed to win in the first round – said Grzegorz Schetyna after the exit poll results of the local government elections were announced. I want to thank Hanna Zdanowska, Jacek Jaśkowiak, Jacek Sutryk, Krzysztof Żuk. All these Civic Coalition members who won today and are a symbol of our victory – Schetyna added.

This is first and foremost a great obligation, to work very hard

- Dear friends, I want to thank above all the women and men of Warsaw, because thanks to them I can celebrate this success today, I hope these results will be confirmed. It is thanks to these hundreds of conversations that we have earned this great, great credit of trust. Biedroń to 300: We Must Reflect on the Future of the Left-Wing Movement. Perhaps Something Has Been Exhausted and New Strength and Energy Are Needed
This is undoubtedly the best news of the evening for the entire pro-democracy side, that the red card shown by Poles to PiS fills us with optimism. But it shows, and this is perhaps the most important aspect of it all, that Poles have defended local government, that the hand raised by Kaczyński against local government did not manage to break democracy. Poles were not intimidated, and it is a great success for the local government reform that local governments are truly independent, and we have demonstrated this independence today. There will be no centralization, no control from Nowogrodzka Street, Jarosław Kaczyński will not dictate how our cities and towns are run. And this is the best, most optimistic news of this evening - stated Robert Biedroń in an interview with 300POLITYKA, commenting on the initial exit poll results of the local elections. He added:
"Of course, the overall result of Civic Coalition (KO) is disappointing. KO has worsened its result compared to 2015. This shows that reflection is needed there, that there is a glass ceiling somewhere, but candidates supported by the coalition have achieved truly sensational results in some cities. Zdanowska, Trzaskowski, or Jaśkowiak. This shows that wherever there is progressive policy, where these candidates are not afraid to introduce modern, European standards, open cities, where they unite rather than divide, there they gain. This is, of course, optimistic for me as a progressive politician, that this policy pays off, that people like it."
- Unfortunately, traditional left-wing parties like SLD or Razem achieved weak results. I think reflection is needed today, thinking about where they are heading, in what formula. I rooted for them and continue to root for them, their results are important to me, but this shows that perhaps a new deal is needed and a reflection, perhaps in a few days, a conversation, a dialogue, a search for a new formula, a new idea on the left. I am of course available. Today they counted themselves. SLD, Razem, they saw what they are worth, how it looks, and if there is no reflection, and I strongly support my older and younger sisters and brothers, it will simply end badly. We must reflect on the future of the left-wing movement. Perhaps something has been exhausted and new strength and energy are needed. These elections show that progressive politicians are gaining. There is enormous space for progressive politics. Quite a lot of people no longer voted for the PO-PiS duopoly. There is a huge space for seeking something new, and this must be utilized, this electorate engaged, and a new force shown - stated the Mayor of Słupsk.
