-- ŻUREK'S CONFLICT WITH KORNELUK - DESCRIBED BY EWA IVANOVA IN GW: “The awarding of promotions did not take place for the umpteenth time. - The Prosecutor General and the National Prosecutor are not on the same wavelength; nothing worse could have happened to us - notes a "Wyborcza" interviewee. A ceremony for the promotion of dozens of prosecutors was supposed to take place on May 27th. This is a major event for the community. A hall was rented in a Warsaw building at Rakowicka Street (former headquarters of the Prosecutor General's Office) and a string quartet was ordered. However, the ceremony was canceled. Officially – due to organizational problems. Unofficially – Minister Waldemar Żurek did not sign the promotion decrees requested by National Prosecutor Dariusz Korneluk”.
-- THERE IS A CLING - IVANOVA'S INTERLOCUTOR ON THE SITUATION IN THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE: “The heads of the prosecutor's offices applied for promotions; what can they tell their people now? This is a recipe for disaster. Another interviewee of ours explains the problem unequivocally. - For everyone, this is a sign that the Prosecutor General and the National Prosecutor are not on the same wavelength. There is a deadlock. Nothing worse could have happened to the prosecutor's office”.

-- UKRAINE DOES NOT NEED TO LOOK FOR HEROES FROM WORLD WAR II TODAY. IT HAS ITS HEROES TODAY WHO ARE DEFENDING DONBAS - WŁADYSŁAW KOSINIAK-KAMYSZ IN AN INTERVIEW WITH MICHAŁ KOLANKO IN RZ: “It was a tough conversation. It concerned matters that caused pain and bitterness in Poland. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's decision is widely incomprehensible and unacceptable. Therefore, it is good that this conversation took place with me, with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Presidential Palace. We all clearly expressed our position: an expectation for this decision to be changed and for its unfriendly nature to be pointed out. While recognizing – and I also emphasized this – how much Ukraine has done to defend its state, but also for the security of this part of Europe where we live. Ukraine does not need to look for heroes from World War II today. It has its heroes today who are defending Donbas, Zaporizhzhia, and the Ukrainian sky”.
-- I BELIEVE THAT THE ISSUE CONCERNING THE NAME FOR THE UKRAINIAN MILITARY UNIT AND THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE POLISH POINT OF VIEW MUST BE RESOLVED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE - KOSINIAK FURTHER IN RZ:

-- THE PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY OF UKRAINIANS IN POLAND IS THE HIGHEST IN THE ENTIRE EUROPEAN UNION. THEY ARE ALSO THE PILLAR OF THE SERVICES MARKET, WHICH DOES NOT REQUIRE HIGH QUALIFICATIONS - KRZYSZTOF KATKOWSKI IN GW: “The professional activity of Ukrainians in Poland is the highest in the entire European Union. They are also the pillar of the services market, which does not require high qualifications. The data confirms the economic contribution of refugees. A Deloitte study for UNHCR showed that in 2024, Ukrainian refugees contributed 2.7 percent to Poland's GDP growth, and the employment rate among refugees of working age reached 69 percent. In turn, a report by the Polish state bank BGK indicates that each zloty paid out to Ukrainians under the Family 800 plus program brought 5.4 zlotys to the budget in the form of taxes. In the Czech Republic, in the first half of 2024, revenues from taxes and insurance contributions from Ukrainians amounted to 11.7 billion crowns, while expenditures on aid for them were 7.3 billion crowns”.

-- THE ANTI-UKRAINIAN HUNT IS GETTING OUT OF CONTROL - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ: “The discussion around the glorification of the UPA, which is unacceptable to Poland, is turning into a hunt for Ukrainians in the government and state administration. But once ignited, anti-Ukrainian hatred cannot be easily stopped. Anyone who participates in this madness, in fueling hatred, even with one click, like, or hateful comment, is turning Poland into hell. Because hatred, once sown, does not disappear; it spreads and one day will bear terrible fruit”.

-- THE PROBLEM ARISES WHEN RUSSIA SEEMS WEAK, AND UKRAINE STRONGER. IMMEDIATELY, A TON OF UNRESOLVED MATTERS COMES TO THE SURFACE - JAROSŁAW KUISZ IN INTERIA: “However, the problem arises when Russia seems weak, and Ukraine stronger. Immediately, a ton of unresolved matters, long-standing grievances, and disputes surfaces. Hence, disputes about the past, thawed from the ice of communist censorship, show such great power to divide nations. There has been little dialogue between leaders. Dialogue between nations about a painful past – none at all”.
-- PERHAPS A WEAKENING RUSSIA MEANS KYIV WANTS TO RECOUP YEARS OF STRESS - KUISZ FURTHER IN INTERIA: “One might get the impression that, similarly, Ukrainian leaders are less concerned about Polish sensitivities. Perhaps a weakening Russia means Kyiv wants to recoup years of stress. Perhaps not only towards us”.
-- THE WEAKER PUTIN'S RUSSIA SEEMS, THE STRONGER THE POLISH-UKRAINIAN DISPUTES ABOUT HISTORY WILL BE. OR PERHAPS THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF MAJOR CONTROVERSIES - KUISZ'S CONCLUSION: “I have the impression that, although the war has been going on for over 10 years, we understand each other little. Nothing has been discussed. Almost nothing has been explained socially. The majority of Ukrainians know nothing about what happened in Volhynia. Poles are not interested in how the brutal war with Putin is changing Ukrainian society. Strong stereotypes from the grim past dominate – and the collective reflexes associated with them. Hence this strange conclusion: the weaker Putin's Russia seems militarily, the stronger the Polish-Ukrainian disputes about history will be. And perhaps this is just the beginning of major controversies”.

-- THE COALITION HAS NO COMMON MESSAGE IN THE CRISIS OF RELATIONS WITH UKRAINE, TUSK IS RECEIVING CRITICAL OPINIONS EVEN WITHIN HIS OWN PARTY, AND PIS IS TRYING TO OUTBID THE NATIONALIST GRZEGORZ BRAUN. THE DEBATE IS GETTING OUT OF CONTROL - IWONA SZPALA AND AGATA KONDZIŃSKA IN GW: “After Nawrocki threatened to revoke the Order of the White Eagle from the President of Ukraine, the KO leader gave three contradictory signals within a few days”.

-- IT WAS NOT A GOOD WEEK FOR KO - ANNA SIEWIERSKA IN TYGODNIK POLITYKA: “In the week when SAFE agreements were signed, another phase of exhumations in Volhynia was negotiated with Ukraine, and the anniversary of June 4th was commemorated, Poland was consumed by the narrative imposed by the opposition. It was not a good week for KO”.

-- SHOULD WE DONATE TO ARTISTS? MENTZEN AND STANOWSKI BENEFITED THE MOST FROM THIS - ALEKSANDRA ŻELAZIŃSKA IN TYGODNIK POLITYKA: “Whether they earn a lot or live in poverty, the answer is one: why should we subsidize them? The dispute over social welfare for artists was dominated narratively and manipulated by Mentzen and Stanowski, who are currently the sole beneficiaries of the new welfare bill project. (...) It seems that it is either too early in Poland for a conversation about the artistic profession, or perhaps it is being conducted poorly. The discussion was taken over by supporters of Konfederacja, and Sławomir Mentzen set the tone. But this is not just a simple dispute between right-wing free-market principles and left-wing solidarity. (...) The government found itself – to use football terminology – in deep defense; the community is talking about a false start. (...) Many posts appear along the lines of 'I'm not a fan of Konfederacja, but they are right here.' 'Why write books that no one wants to read, create works that no one understands?'”.
