STATE OF PLAY: Krytyka Polityczna: Government Fails in Nature Protection, Stankiewicz: I'm Not Naive Enough Not to See That Services Are Pursuing Their Interests Through Politicians
-- “LET’S STILL BE CAUTIOUS WITH OPTIMISTIC, FINAL MESSAGES”. THE GOVERNMENT SESSION CONTINUES ON SATURDAY - 300LIVE: https://300polityka.pl/live/2024/09/28/
-- 44.7% OF RESPONDENTS POSITIVELY ASSESS THE GOVERNMENT'S ACTIONS REGARDING THE FLOODS. ALMOST AS MANY POLES DISAGREE - 42.8% - IN A UCE RESEARCH POLL FOR ONET: “31.5 percent of respondents in the UCE Research poll for Onet stated that they 'rather agree', and 13.2 percent that they 'definitely agree'. In total, this gives 44.7 percent of respondents who positively assess the government's actions regarding the floods. Almost as many Poles disagree - 42.8 percent (of whom 24.1 percent chose the answer 'rather disagree', and 18.7 percent - 'definitely disagree'). 12.5 percent of respondents have no opinion on this matter.”

-- I AM NOT SO NAIVE AS NOT TO SEE THAT THE SERVICES ARE PURSUING THEIR INTERESTS THROUGH POLITICIANS - ANDRZEJ STANKIEWICZ IN ONET: “Let’s clarify a few things first. Firstly, the expert's opinion states that Zbigniew Ziobro is undergoing oncological treatment, that it is not a fabrication, evasion, or lie. Secondly, the use of Pegasus to surveil the opposition is one of the biggest scandals of the PiS governments, and Ziobro should pay for it. Thirdly, I have never believed in the omnipotence of special services, especially the meager Polish special services. But at the same time, I am not so naive as not to see that the services are pursuing their interests through politicians.”
-- IN REALITY, ZIOBRO'S SUMMONS IS AN EXTREMELY STUPID IDEA THAT WILL HARM THE COMMISSION MORE THAN IT HELPS IT - STANKIEWICZ FURTHER: “While other parliamentary investigation committees (on envelope elections and visas) have practically finished their work, this one has barely started. Therefore, it needs success and attention at all costs. From this point of view, summoning Ziobro is a good idea, or at least that's what the committee members think. Because in reality, it's an extremely stupid idea that will harm the commission more than it helps it. The commission has not established anything so far, because the special services refuse to provide it with any materials, including key documents concerning the use of Pegasus against politicians. Yes, yes, the list of surveilled individuals that the special committee supposedly has is a complete fabrication. To be clear – the new heads of the services, who were supposed to hold the PiS governments accountable, are boycotting the committee. The catch is that in the services, apart from a routine broom at the very top, practically nothing has changed. Internal loyalty wins, and meanness is covered up.”

-- THE CHAIRMAN STILL PREFERS NOT TO HAVE A DEPUTY MARSHAL THAN TO REPLACE ELŻBIETA WITEK WITH SOMEONE ELSE - JACEK GĄDEK IN NEWSWEEK: “Pilgrimages to Nowogrodzka were happening, but it yielded nothing. The chairman still prefers not to have a deputy marshal than to replace Elżbieta Witek with someone else. A year has passed, and we still believe we can elect Witek? It’s absurd. Giving up this position is a poor choice — laments one of the interlocutors from the ranks of United Right.”

-- THE DISPUTE OVER HISTORICAL POLICY IS NOT THE ONLY DISPUTE THAT THE GOVERNMENT AND COALITION CAN LOSE IN TERMS OF IMAGE AND SUBSTANCE - CEZARY MICHALSKI ON TUSK'S SOLOIST STRATEGY - WRITES IN INTERIA: “And because there are too few competent and politically significant figures in many other ministries as well (which results from the soloist strategy that Donald Tusk is implementing in a slightly too radical version), the dispute over historical policy is not the only dispute that the government and coalition can lose in terms of image and substance.”

-- POLITICIANS AND OFFICIALS, ESPECIALLY AT THE CENTRAL LEVEL, WHEN THEY TRIED ANY CORRECTIONS, EVEN PERSONAL ONES, IN THEATERS, WERE DESCRIBED AS USURPERS - PIOTR ZAREMBA IN RZ: “For the last eight years, we have been convinced of the exact opposite. Politicians and officials, especially at the central level, when they attempted any corrections, even personal ones, in theaters, were described as usurpers. Artistic ensembles were supposed to decide everything. Is this voice a signal that this principle will be reversed 180 degrees?”
-- WRÓBLEWSKA'S LOW POLITICAL POSITION FACILITATES TAKING A BILLION FROM THE BUDGET FROM CULTURE - ZAREMBA BELIEVES IN A TEXT IN RZ: “Her isolation facilitated Tusk taking almost PLN 1 billion from this ministry in the last budget. But from the perspective of the Civic Coalition leader, is that a disadvantage? He and his circle have always liked to save on culture as much as possible.”

-- LET US NOT GIVE IN TO THE TEMPTATION OF POCKET-SIZED CYNICISM. PUTIN IS JUST WAITING FOR "REALISM" TO WIN IN POLAND - PIOTR ZAREMBA IN INTERIA: “Poland has the right to defend its interests, both under Kaczyński and under Tusk. But let us not give in to the temptation of pocket-sized cynicism. It is immoral, but it will also prove ineffective. Putin is just waiting for 'realism' to win in Poland.”
-- IN THE CAMPAIGN, TUSK WAS ABLE TO CRITICIZE PIS FOR STRAINING RELATIONS WITH UKRAINE. BUT TODAY IT IS DIFFERENT - ZAREMBA STILL IN INTERIA: “It seemed that despite all the gestures of friendship with PiS politicians, Zelensky was closer to Donald Tusk's new coalition - like a liberal to a liberal, and like a friend of Germany to another friend of theirs. In the campaign, Tusk was able to criticize PiS for straining relations with Ukraine. But today it is already different.”

-- POLES DON'T LIKE BEAVERS BECAUSE THEY ARE COMPETITION. SO MANY TREES GO TO WASTE THAT COULD BE SOLD TO CHINA - ANNA MAZIUK IN GW: “– We get angry when a beaver fells trees, and yet we do the same – he gets annoyed. – Although we send a large part of it to China ourselves, when an animal cuts something down to build a dam, it's immediately labeled a 'pest'. (...) It’s worth reminding ourselves of the words of an old Indian woman: ‘You will kill all the beavers, and after some time, there will be no water left either. And when there is no water, there will be no trout, nor fur animals, nor grass, nor anything at all.’”

-- TUSK'S GOVERNMENT HAS FAILED REGARDING NATURE PROTECTION, FROM CAUTIOUS HOPE TO GROWING DISAPPOINTMENT - DANIEL PETRYCZKIEWICZ IN KRYTYKA POLITYCZNA: “In less than a year of the coalition's rule, nothing has changed regarding nature and its protection. While we have a moratorium on logging ecologically valuable forests, it is a temporary, not long-term, measure; it has saved a number of forest ecosystems from destruction, but for how long? Probably no one knows.”

-- THE ARTISTIC ROUTE OF SUZUKI AND MINT. WHAT IS WORTH SEEING DURING WARSAW GALLERY WEEKEND AND FRINGE WARSAW - ALEKSANDER HUDZIK: Piotr Uklański is probably the biggest star of this year's Warsaw Gallery Weekend. The artist became known, among other things, for his collective portrait of John Paul II, created with the help of hundreds of people on a beach in São Paulo. This time, he will present a series whose title refers to Charles Baudelaire's famous poetry collection, "Les Fleurs du Mal" (The Flowers of Evil). It can be expected that this exhibition, like many of Uklański's works, will again question us about the ambiguity of good and evil, about morality, the principles of which the artist himself has repeatedly questioned and challenged. It is not surprising that the quote opening his second solo exhibition at the Foksal Gallery Foundation is from one of the Nazi criminals – Hermann Göring. A stop at FGF is a must, not only because of Uklański, but also because of the brilliant gallery building. From its terrace, one of the best views of the center of Warsaw unfolds.
