„What is the Polish Interest in Supporting the Most Corrupt and Pro-Putin Politician in Europe?” — Sikorski on Nawrocki's Visit to Hungary

STATE OF PLAY: A Churchgoing Journalist for President, Dorn on Duda's County Success, Kondzińska and Szułdrzyński: Morawiecki Strengthened
-- DWORCZYK ON THE EXPOSÉ OF NOVEMBER 19 - 300LIVE: https://300polityka.pl/live/2019/11/12/
-- WE NEED TO SET OUR SAILS FOR ADDITIONAL WINDS - JACEK KARNOWSKI: “Commentators associated with the opposition claim that on October 13, Law and Justice achieved a result they will never repeat, because such a conjuncture – political, social, psychological, and economic – happens very rarely. There is a grain of truth in this statement: the next four years will be completely different, and therefore the policy of the United Right government must also be different. If the ship is to sail as fast as before, we must set our sails for additional winds, without abandoning those that were most important during the previous term.”
-- WHAT KIND OF DICTATORSHIP IS SCORED DAILY BY THE MEDIA, IN WHICH AGORA ENJOYS SPLENDID PROSPERITY? - KARNOWSKI CONTINUES: “What kind of dictatorship is scored daily by the most powerful media? Finally, what kind of dictatorship has not imprisoned, let alone arrested, even one of its opponents? Not even one who ostentatiously broke the law, throwing himself under the wheels of government cars or insulting police officers? Finally, what kind of dictatorship, under which the Agora concern – the publisher of 'Gazeta Wyborcza' and a number of equally strongly opposition media – enjoys splendid prosperity, effectively conquering new market segments?”
-- EVERY TIME GW WRITES ABOUT DICTATORSHIP, TALK ABOUT AGORA'S RESULTS - KARNOWSKI'S CONCLUSION: “This great business success cannot be left unaddressed. Therefore, I propose: every time 'Gazeta Wyborcza' writes about the 'dictatorship' raging in Poland, let the government buy an advertisement in Western media informing about the splendid results of the company from Czerska Street. Nothing will convince the West better of the thesis that some sources from Poland are simply blatantly lying.”

-- MAGDALENA ŚRODA ON A CHURCHGOING JOURNALIST FOR PRESIDENT - writes in GW: “There are no shortage of candidates, and even more rumors and speculation. Who does Schet really support, and who does Tusk support? Who else will come forward? Who will the party majority support, and who will the media support? Who has a chance: a churchgoing journalist or the Master of Chobielin, a woman or a man, a politician or some actor?”
-- ŚRODA ON HOW SCHETYNA HARMS KIDAWAY: “Kidawa-Błońska won the parliamentary elections, her 'nomination' for prime minister caused a significant increase in support for PO; she is therefore a natural candidate, if they were to bet on her today, she could easily compete with Duda. But Schetyna sticks to the old rule of Greek tyrants: 'Cut down the highest-growing ears,' meaning don't let anyone surpass your position. 'Let them compete, let them slaughter each other, as long as I control everything.'”
-- ŚRODA ON SCHETYNA AND THE TITANIC: “That's how it was before the European elections, that's how it was before the parliamentary elections. A self-inflicted defeat? No defeat at all; Poland can sink, as long as Schet fulfills his ambitions. Under his leadership, Civic Platform has reached a decadent stage where there is no greater good than the good of the boss who rules and distributes. So, let's have fun and submit our candidacies for president!! Poland is a sinking ship, but the music is still playing!”

-- LUDWIK DORN ON DUDA'S COUNTY SUCCESS - writes in GW: “The survey results concerning the second round give food for thought. Even if we take into account the increase in turnout of another 2 million voters or more compared to the last parliamentary elections, they indicate that 10% or more of the voters who voted for the opposition in the parliamentary elections are willing to vote for Andrzej Duda or are hesitant. The factor that explains this is the county level. Since his election, Andrzej Duda has diligently sought re-election – he visited 170 counties before the parliamentary elections, and by the end of the campaign, he will have visited all of them, some – like cities with county rights – several times. From the voters' perspective, this means that the head of state has acknowledged that they are important in their county and deserve attention.”
-- ONLY A LOCAL CAN COMPETE WITH THE PRESIDENT - DORN'S CONCLUSION: “Both the results of the European Coalition in the European Parliament elections and the results of The Left and Civic Coalition in the national elections indicate that the division between metropolises and the rest of Poland is of key importance for Poles' electoral decisions. Only a candidate who is recognized by 'county Poland' as 'one of their own' and credibly communicates to its citizens that in their vision of political community, county Poland is no less important than metropolitan Poland, can win against Andrzej Duda.”

-- AGATA KONDZIŃSKA ON THE FRONT PAGE OF GW ABOUT MORAWIECKI'S STRENGTHENING: “Jarosław Gowin and Zbigniew Ziobro fought for influence, while Mateusz Morawiecki quietly increased his own. He brought his people into key ministries where money is distributed.”
-- KONDZIŃSKA ON ZIOBRO'S WEAKENING: “Another opponent of the prime minister, Zbigniew Ziobro, has also weakened. – He lost out the most in the changes. He overbid when his people publicly demanded a change of prime minister or when he wanted to be deputy prime minister – assesses a right-wing politician. Ziobro remains Minister of Justice, and Michał Woś, associated with him, one of two ministers of the environment. – Woś gets State Forests, which means money and structures throughout the country, but there are many more important areas outside of Forests – says a PiS MP.”

-- MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ ABOUT MORAWIECKI'S VICTORY: “Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki emerged as the winner of the internal power struggle within the right. He was attacked by Zbigniew Ziobro's faction, which demanded that Jarosław Kaczyński become prime minister after the elections. But the PiS leader did not want such support at all; he perfectly understood what was at stake. He had already decided that the prime minister would remain in his post, and those who joined the attack on the head of government had to be disappointed. Temporarily, these attacks weakened Morawiecki's position, although in the end he emerged victorious from them. A large part of the ruling camp will now focus on him. Renewing his mandate strengthens him, and the exposé and the vote of confidence motion will allow him to seize the political initiative.”
-- SZUŁDRZYŃSKI ON ZIOBRO'S LOSS: “The loser turns out to be Zbigniew Ziobro's faction, who received the Ministry of the Environment as a consolation prize, but it was split into two parts. The other coalition partner, Jarosław Gowin, maintained his position, although the current arrangement can also be interpreted as a reward for loyalty – the former Minister of Entrepreneurship, Jadwiga Emilewicz, will head the super-ministry of development, under which many new competencies have been placed, although the management of European funds themselves will be handled by another minister in the new ministry.”

-- ZIOBRO WILL HAVE TO SOFTEN UP - TOMASZ PIETRYGA IN RZ: “In addition, there is the dispute with Brussels and the subsequent rulings of the ECJ against the government. All this means that Zbigniew Ziobro will have to civilize his policy towards the courts in the new term – avoid radical solutions and entering into open conflicts with ill-considered reforms. More energy will be spent on putting out fires from ECJ rulings and Brussels decisions than on offensive actions against them. The strengthening of Konrad Szymański, who became minister for European affairs, is a sign that Poland has adopted a less confrontational course towards EU institutions.”

-- THE GOVERNMENT AND MORAWIECKI ARE RUNNING ON SLOGANS - ADAM SZOSTKIEWICZ IN POLITYKA: “Meanwhile, this government is tactically oriented – on survival, on the division of electoral spoils. It has no creative impulse, energy, serious personalities with authority, or a cohesive plan for Poland in difficult times. It runs on slogans and promises, and has not fulfilled even those concerning electric cars, housing development, a US base in Poland, or significant purchases of combat equipment for the army. Not all Poles 'asked for' such a government. Yet, on November 11, Poland should be wished a government worthy of the challenges that await us.”

-- INDEPENDENCE IS NOT OBVIOUS TO EVERYONE - MICHAŁ KARNOWSKI: “And most importantly: Poland is a great moral obligation, we have no right or freedom to abandon it, we cannot neglect it. The fact that on Independence Day so many people loudly declare that it is 'a matter that does not interest them' must be a reminder to all Poles concerned about the fate of the Homeland that even today we must defend Independence, that it is not a given. The current of calling for the abandonment of Polishness is unfortunately not a marginal phenomenon. The Independence Day celebrations, generally optimistic, have also strongly highlighted this threat.”

-- KACZYŃSKI WILL HAVE MORE TIME THANKS TO SASIN - LUDWIK DORN IN RZ - in conversation with Jacek Nizinkiewicz: “Jacek Sasin will become Kaczyński's screen, through which the leader will issue directives, and will also send all supplicants to Sasin, thanks to which he will have more time and peace. The establishment of a new ministry will certainly weaken Zbigniew Ziobro's authority. But this is an internal PiS fly swatter.”

-- NOTHING WILL BE STABLE OR CERTAIN - JACEK ŻAKOWSKI ON THE NEW TERM - writes in WP: “It is already evident that for an observer, this will be one of the most interesting Sejms of the Third Polish Republic. But I do not envy the lady and gentlemen MPs. Because now it will be intense. Not in the sense that it was intense in the committees chaired by the late prosecutor Piotrowicz. Because there, the tension was built only by brutal form. In this Sejm, it will be interesting in a strategic sense. Just like a game of Go or hundred-square chess is interesting. Because, unlike the previous Sejm, nothing in this one is stable or certain. Everyone will be playing, many will want to take the whole pot, and no one can be sure of the outcome.”

-- THE PRIME MINISTER IS FIGHTING FOR POLAND'S HONOR - one of the headlines on the front page of SE.
-- JACEK KARNOWSKI ON PMM'S INTERVENTION WITH NETFLIX: “These are matters that no state talks about openly. Well, maybe some mid-level official at some reception will suggest to someone that certain delays, certain necessary analytical processes, without which important decisions cannot be made, are perhaps not accidentally lasting long. But even this without putting a period at the end. These are things that are simply done. Otherwise, the state remains theoretical. A non-theoretical state – which Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz dreamed of – knows how to ensure that global media companies operating in our market police themselves.”

-- THE LEFT WILL NOT WIN IF IT DOES NOT RECLAIM THE WORD "PATRIOTISM" FROM THE RIGHT - ADAM LESZCZYŃSKI IN KRYTYKA: “stop playing the game written by nationalists. Polish patriotism was democratic and leftist. Its enemy was not only the Tsarist policeman, but also their domestic collaborators – almost always belonging to the propertied classes (yes, these are not fantasies). Without a popular and democratic Republic – popular in the socialist sense, meaning providing citizens with equality – there is no independent Poland. This must be told without any inhibitions towards nationalists waving Chrobry's Swords and images of the Pope. No complexes, no explanations, a full reclamation: they should be ashamed of their Mr. Roman, not the PPS of Stefan Okrzeja.”

-- FASCISM HAS SHOOK HANDS WITH SOCIAL DARWINISM - PIOTR IKONOWICZ IN KRYTYKA: “We are dealing with an unprecedented phenomenon: xenophobia, racism, and open fascism have shaken hands with social Darwinism, an ideology of contempt for the poor. This is how Konfederacja was formed. Thus, fascists are already in the Sejm, and Kaczyński, who is not a fascist, is paving their way to power. And only the social left can stop them. No pasaran!”

-- NO ONE WILL FORGIVE THE OPPOSITION FOR MISTAKES IN THE SENATE - DOMINIKA WIELOWIEYSKA IN GW: “The opposition Senate Speaker and the opposition majority in this Chamber can restore civilized standards and true debate in parliament. However, this will require absolute discipline from the opposition. And that has been variable. (...) It will be interesting to see if the opposition leaders and parliamentarians will take this to heart, or if they will be outplayed by PiS like children.”

-- THE PO CANDIDATE WILL NOT CONVINCE THE VOTERS OF THE CURRENT PRESIDENT - WŁADYSŁAW KOSINIAK-KAMYSZ IN A CONVERSATION WITH JACK NIŻINKIEWICZ IN RZ: “Without the voters of the Polish People's Party, The Left, and Civic Platform, it will be impossible to win the presidential elections, because it is no longer important who gets how many seats, but who has a chance to win against Andrzej Duda in the second round. Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, Rafał Trzaskowski, or Radosław Sikorski – with all my respect and sympathy for them – can win the elections for the chairman of PO, but they will not win the presidential elections, because they will never convince the voters of the current president.”
