STATE OF PLAY: PM: Interest groups fighting to return to El Dorado, Fijołek: Shouldn't the fight for a majority encourage decisive actions?, GW: Opposition's Czech film regarding the Senate
-- SAWICKI ON A DECISION IMMINENT REGARDING AGREEMENT WITH KUKIZ, MUCHA ON PAD VISITING EVERY DISTRICT - 300LIVE: https://300polityka.pl/live/2019/08/07/
-- PRIME MINISTER ON THE ABSOLUTE FIGHT AGAINST VIOLENCE - in an interview with Michał Karnowski: “Aggressive language can easily turn into aggressive actions. That is why I want to strongly declare that as a government, we adhere to the principle: zero tolerance for violence in public life. Zero words, zero slogans, zero gestures that harm others. Because violence can be both physical and verbal. Any violence will be met with a decisive reaction from us. Not all bad statements or actions can always be prevented, but just consequences should always be drawn.”
-- PRIME MINISTER STRONGLY ON AGGRESSION ON THE ROAD: “I would also like us to understand this lack of tolerance for violence broadly. It's not just about hooligan pranks or bandit behavior on the streets; it also includes, for example, aggression on the road. That is why I want to say that there will be no leniency in government actions for drunk drivers or traffic violators. We will fight these deep pathologies with full determination. We say clearly: stop road lawlessness.”
-- MANY INTEREST GROUPS ARE FIGHTING TO RETURN TO EL DORADO - CONTINUES THE PRIME MINISTER: “There will be below-the-belt blows, because many interest groups are fighting to return to that undemocratic El Dorado that once was. There will be intrigues, traps, and machinations, but our deeds defend us; we have done great work for the entire society. The strength of calm. Especially since we are entering a difficult period of the election campaign. Emotions in public debate will only increase, so all the more we should weigh our assessments and words spoken.”

-- A CZECH FILM ABOUT THE SENATE LIST: WE'LL CALL BACK - IWONA SZPALA AND AGATA KONDZIŃSKA IN GW: “– Biedroń talked with Schetyna, another colleague with Jacek Karnowski, and well, the general slogan we hear is: we'll call back – Krzysztof Janik, an SLD politician, tells «Wyborcza». Therefore, if a joint project doesn't work out, the Alliance already has an alternative – a list of 70 candidate names who could run under a left-wing banner. When asked about the relations between PO and SLD, Janik says they are non-existent.”
-- 30 LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS TO THE SENATE - CONTINUES GW: “Karnowski says that about 30 local government officials will run in 100 districts. He doesn't provide names. Politicians are sparing with words, keeping the details of negotiations and any potential joint team secret. – Off the record, I can say: it looks like we've reached an agreement, but there are no more talks until Friday – says one of the Peasants' Party politicians.”
-- IT SHOULD BE A DECK OF 100 CARDS - OPPOSITION POLITICIAN IN GW ARTICLE: “And although negotiations are ongoing, some opposition politicians are already declaring their candidacy. Jerzy Wenderlich, one of the Alliance's leaders, wants to win a mandate in Włocławek. Is he sure he won't have an opposition counter-candidate? – It should be a deck of 100 cards and a five o’clock tea – we sit down, analyze district by district, don't attack each other, and field the best candidate with the greatest chance of winning – he tells «Wyborcza».”

-- 66 DAYS TO THE ELECTION, 66 POTENTIAL MINEFIELDS - MARCIN FIJOŁEK ON WPOLITYCE: “We will go to the polls on October 13th, which means there are sixty-six days left until the election silence. These are 66 potential minefields, 66 chances to seize the initiative, 66 openings to convey our vision for Poland and tell the story of what happened in the last four years.”
-- SOME THINGS SIMPLY SHOULD NOT BE DEFENDED - CONTINUES FIJOŁEK: “While this is not an issue that will cause a reset on the political scene, the Kuchciński affair has long since exited the twitter bubble of publicists and commentators and is starting to live its own life, with new installments. With sixty-six days left until the election, the last thing Law and Justice needs are such cases and discussions that correct – perhaps slightly, but still – the political standings at the beginning of the campaign race. PiS currently has pole position, and with a significant lead, but it's not guaranteed forever. I understand political, party solidarity, but there are still more important things and issues. Some things simply should not be defended.”
-- IS THE MARSHAL SOMEONE WHO DISARMS MINES OR ADDS TO THEM? - CONTINUES FIJOŁEK: “I have already written a bit about the aforementioned standards and the matter of Marshal Marek Kuchciński's flights on our portal, but the reality where the second person in the state is unable to answer journalists' questions at a press conference, employs a series of evasions and presents half-truths when publishing data, and finally – reads a hastily written statement from a piece of paper, requires a few more words. With these sixty-six potential minefields ahead of him, is the Marshal today someone who helps disarm subsequent ambushes, or quite the opposite – does he only add to them?”
-- SHOULDN'T THE PROSPECT OF FIGHTING FOR A MAJORITY ENCOURAGE FASTER AND MORE DECISIVE ACTIONS? - CONTINUES FIJOŁEK: “Shouldn't the prospect of fighting for a majority (sole, perhaps constitutional) encourage faster and more decisive actions, which we did see in PiS years ago on analogous (but much smaller) matters? Finally, isn't the only line of defense: 'they flew under Civic Platform too' something that most strongly attacks the political DNA of the camp of good change?”

-- MEMBERS OF MPs' FAMILIES ON KUCHCIŃSKI'S PLANE - FAKT: "Fakt has obtained highly guarded documents, which clearly show that Marshal of the Sejm Marek Kuchciński (64) organized a real travel agency. The company's showcase was a luxury jet, and its specialty was flights to Podkarpacie. The Marshal offered luxury trips on the Warsaw-Rzeszów-Warsaw route not only to his relatives but also to friendly MPs and their family members. I wonder if he also served them refreshments on board? Is it appropriate for the Marshal of the Sejm, the second person in the state, to act as a travel agent?! It debases the dignity of this office!
-- RMF REPORTS THE SAME FINDINGS AS FAKT: “According to unofficial findings by our journalist, in one of the trips to which the Marshal of the Sejm invited MP Stanisław Piotrowicz, a woman with the same surname also participated. The same was true for Zdzisław Krasnodębski. Marek Kuchciński also took MPs like Bogdan Rzońca or the Marshal of Podkarpacie, Władysław Ortyl, on the jet. Family members, primarily his son Zbigniew, also flew on government planes with the Marshal. The Kuchcińskis flew not only on the new Gulfstream but also on a Sokół helicopter. The aircraft mainly commuted between Okęcie and Jasionka, as well as Huwniki – a small airport near the Marshal's hometown: Przemyśl.”

-- KUCHCIŃSKI'S STRETCHED DUTIES - IZABELA KACPRZAK IN RZ: “After the list of Marshal of the Sejm's flights was revealed, there are more questions than answers. For example, on May 31st last year, Kuchciński flew from Warsaw to Rzeszów – there were as many as four people on board. How was the purpose justified? We read that on May 29th, the Marshal of the Sejm had an official visit to Sweden, followed by meetings in the Sejm and international talks, including with the Chairman of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. Did this conversation take place in Podkarpacie, to which the Marshal flew – and if so, why is there no trace of it online?”

-- THE STORY OF KUCHCIŃSKI'S SIX LIES - WOJCIECH CZUCHNOWSKI IN GW: “In April of this year, 'Wyborcza' already knew about the Marshal of the Sejm's 'family flights.' To confirm this, we sent official questions to the Chancellery of the Sejm. In response, it denied it, and the article was not published. The first lie proved effective only for a while.”

-- THE MARSHAL'S GLORIOUS BYZANTIUM - PAWEŁ WROŃSKI IN GW: “Marshal Marek Kuchciński walks surrounded by guards dressed in operetta uniforms, and he has separated his office from the rest of the Sejm with a curtain and introduced a ban on journalists moving in certain parliamentary corridors.”

-- JACEK GĄDEK ON THE SEPTEMBER 1ST CELEBRATIONS IN THE CAMPAIGN: “The parliamentary elections are to be held on October 13th. And the gathering on September 1st of a dozen or so heads of state, including Trump and Angela Merkel, for the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the war will show that Poland is not isolated at all – quite the contrary: it will become the center of the world at that time. This is an asset in the campaign.”

-- THE MATTER OF SZYDŁO'S MINISTERS' BONUSES IS A SERIOUS POLITICAL PROBLEM - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI: “And so, after a year, the matter has returned. Whatever PiS does now, it will be in trouble. If it doesn't publish proof of payments – it will raise suspicions that it has deceived public opinion. If it publishes them, it will give reason for attacks, because journalists will start analyzing who paid what and to whom, and who didn't transfer money. There may also be an accusation that thanks to transfers to charities, the ministers gained the right to tax deductions. In the very heart of the uproar over Marshal Kuchciński's flights, when PiS is doing everything it can to show that it is a credible party, the return of the issue of Beata Szydło's government ministers' bonuses is a serious political problem.”

-- GW ON DOUBTS REGARDING SZYDŁO MINISTERS' PAYMENTS: “In May 2018, Dworczyk assured on public radio: 'The matter of returning bonuses is closed; according to my knowledge, all people working in Mateusz Morawiecki's government have transferred funds to Caritas.' Now, in an interview with 'Wyborcza,' he claims he was imprecise, because it wasn't about Caritas, but about charitable organizations. Which ones? – we ask. The minister doesn't remember.”

-- JERZY HASZCZYŃSKI WRITES IN RZ NOT TO DRAMATIZE DUE TO US SENATORS' INITIATIVES: “The senators' letter appeared not only during the campaign in Poland but also before the accelerated September elections in Israel, and in the US, there is a fight over who among the democratic candidates (and there are signatories of the letter among them) will be the counter-candidate to Donald Trump in 2020. It appeared – and this may prompt various reflections – a few days after the round anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising. On its occasion, we heard from the German side that they were sorry for the Second World War, but the issue of reparations for the crimes of the Third Reich is legally closed.”

-- MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI ON CHURCHES: NEW AND OLD TESTAMENT - writes in RZ: “The New Testament Church, on the other hand, is based not on law, but on mercy. It does not have ready-made answers to all questions; rather, it provides guidelines on what principles should be followed, but it places great responsibility on human conscience, which ultimately bears responsibility for the moral decision made. Pope Francis captured this first attitude well, I quote, in 'Evangelii gaudium.' 'There are politicians – and religious leaders too – who ask why the people do not understand them and do not follow them, even though their proposals are so logical and clear. This is probably because they have settled in the kingdom of pure ideas and have reduced politics or faith to rhetoric.'”

-- PIS ATTACKS OPPOSITION LOCAL GOVERNMENTS - ROMAN IMIELSKI IN GW: “PiS has thus shirked its promise, once again shifting the burden of education onto the shoulders of local communities. And it's not about social justice here – let the richer contribute themselves, we'll help the poorer. This is a cynical political game before the elections. In September, the government will say: look how rich local governments don't want to contribute to the salaries of frustrated teachers. And yet, they have such huge budgets!”
