STATE OF PLAY: Sutowski on 'Homophobic Pogrom,' Hall on PO and PSL: 'Is There Still Time?', Kacprzak: 3 Blocs OK, But on 1 List, Szefernaker on 'Degenerates,' Beylin: 'Macron Also Gained Voters in Campaign'

-- SZEFERNAKER: THERE IS NO PLACE FOR DEGENERATES WHO TREATED OTHER PEOPLE WITH SUCH CONTEMPT - 300LIVE:https://300polityka.pl/live/2019/07/22/ -- BUDKA AGAINST MORAWIECKI, BUT ALSO ONE OF THE KOD LEADERS IN SILESIA - GW ON KO'S SILESIAN LISTS: “In the Sosnowiec constituency, the leader of the PO list and the entire Civic Coalition will be the head of the party's regional structures and former Marshal Wojciech Saługa, and in Gliwice, PO MP (formerly in Nowoczesna) Marta Golbik. Jarosław Marciniak, a lawyer and one of the founders of the Committee for the Defense of Democracy, is also to run in this constituency.” http://katowice.wyborcza.pl/katowice/7,35063,25015933,wybory-parlamentarne-2019-znamy-jedynki-list-po-w-regionie.html -- THEY DIDN'T LOOK LIKE THEY INVENTED IT THEMSELVES, THAT THE EQUALITY MARCH IS A THREAT TO FAITH AND POLISHNESS - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ: “The young men invoking God and patriotism attacked participants of an 800-person LGBT demonstration in Białystok for two reasons. The first – someone convinced them that the equality march poses a threat to faith, tradition, and Polishness – they didn't look like people who came up with such an idea themselves. The second – they decided that there is social acceptance for resolving conflicts through violence.” https://www.rp.pl/Komentarze/307219957-Szuldrzynski-Demokracji--nie-podlewa-sie-benzyna.html -- IN BIAŁYSTOK, IT WASN'T A RIOT, BUT AN ATTEMPT AT A HOMOPHOBIC POGROM - MICHAŁ SUTOWSKI IN KRYTYKA: “The homophobic witch hunt that the government and the Church have been conducting for months bore concrete fruit during the Equality March in Białystok. The opposition must now condemn not only the violence but also its source, homophobia.” -- SUTOWSKI ON FURTHER NUREMBERG RESOLUTIONS: “The worst thing the opposition could do in this situation is to change the topic and, out of fear of the imaginary 'statistical voter,' retreat to the safe position of 'defending public order.' This is a direct path to relativizing the sick ideas behind acts of violence – as a result, instead of increasingly numerous parades in subsequent cities and progress in equality, we will have further Nuremberg resolutions from councilors of municipalities and voivodeships, increasingly broad 'conscientious objection clauses' in more professions, and everyday violence.” -- ONE CAN CHOOSE DISGRACE AND STILL GET WAR - SUTOWSKI ON THE OPPOSITION'S DILEMMA: “For major political forces to take up a 'controversial' topic always carries some risk. Even before elections. However, as a classic of conservative European thought used to say, when faced with a choice between disgrace and war, one can choose disgrace – and still get war. PiS will not abandon the LGBT+ issue anyway. One can only fight or concede defeat by walkover.” https://krytykapolityczna.pl/kraj/marsz-rownosci-w-bialymstoku-przemoc-homofobia/ -- FASCISTS ATTACK - GW's lead story. -- MICHAŁ KARNOWSKI ON THE NEXT "WAY TO BEAT PIS": “Inflame emotions to mobilize voters, use media advantage to hate on the right, have material for another spot titled 'They Will Go to the Polls' (like in 2011) – this is the 'way to beat PiS,' which, after months of searching, was finally found in the opposition's campaign headquarters. It's already clear that the autumn campaign will be (as I predicted in these pages) exactly the same as the May one, only more so. The opposition will stop at nothing. The Third Republic camp has nothing else to offer, nor does it believe in any other electoral fuel, because it doesn't even take its own 'six-packs' seriously, and competing on past government achievements would be politically fatal for it.” -- KEEP A COOL HEAD, SHOW THE BACKSTAGE OF THE PROVOCATION - KARNOWSKI CONTINUES: “How can the ruling camp counter this? The answer is trivial: by keeping a cool head, showing the backstage of the provocation, emphasizing its own themes, and not getting drawn into traps. And most importantly: remembering that the opposition is truly going to war and the last brakes have been released. Without full mobilization and full control of the camp, it will be easy to stumble.” https://wpolityce.pl/m/polityka/455931-kampania-bedzie-rownie-brutalna-jak-majowa-tylko-bardziej -- THE WEAKER CAN WIN THE ELECTION - MAREK BEYLIN IN GW – writes, among other things, about how Macron only gained voters during the campaign. Text not available online. -- WŁADYSŁAW KOSINIAK-KAMYSZ TELLS MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ ABOUT REBUILDING COMMUNITY: “But it's also about those who don't find themselves in PiS. Many people praise them for their social policy, but they dislike the destruction of community, the permanent conflict, the Polish-Polish war. They don't believe in the politics of love that Jarosław Kaczyński has just announced – it's as credible as the assurance from 2015 that Jarosław Gowin would be the head of the Ministry of National Defense, not Antoni Macierewicz. Before the elections, PiS hides those who cause them trouble. No one will be fooled this time. Many people are disappointed with the situation in healthcare, parents of children who didn't get into their dream high school, the situation in schools, and 'franczyzowicze' (people with Swiss franc mortgages) are often in a dramatic financial situation. There are many groups that trusted PiS, either due to promises or because PiS disguised itself in completely different clothes in 2015, which it shed after the elections and divided Poles into a better and worse sort. We tell them – vote for us, you have a choice.” https://www.rp.pl/Wybory-parlamentarne-2019/307219936-Wladyslaw-Kosiniak-Kamysz-Chodzi-nam-takze-o-wartosci.html -- I FEEL A SENSE OF DEFEAT THAT PO AND PSL ARE RUNNING SEPARATELY - ALEKSANDER HALL IN RZ: “Among my friends and acquaintances, there are few active politicians nowadays. Among them is Jacek Karnowski, the mayor of Sopot, whom I didn't have to convince about this concept, as he assessed the situation similarly. I also discussed it with the leader of PSL, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, whom I consider one of the most promising figures on our political scene. I am convinced that, like Jacek Karnowski, who put a lot of energy and heart into bringing about an alliance between PO, local government officials, and PSL, the leader of the peasant party sincerely strived for this agreement. Zygmunt Frankiewicz, the mayor of Gliwice and president of the Association of Polish Cities, also worked in this direction. We know that the outcome of the talks was different. PO and PSL have announced that they will go to the elections separately. Local government officials will probably be on both lists. I accept these facts, but I am not happy. On the contrary. I have a sense of defeat.” -- IS THERE STILL TIME FOR AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN PSL AND PO? - HALL CONTINUES IN RZ: “After the failure of coalition talks, mutual complaints and resentments remain. One must also remember the logic of the election campaign. PSL declares that it is forming a 'moderate center,' and Grzegorz Schetyna is building a 'broad center.' It will be necessary to show how these centers differ. Already, PSL politicians are talking about the Platform's shift to the left. Warnings are coming from PO that votes cast for PSL might be wasted, and even suggestions that PSL is beginning a maneuver aimed at forming an alliance with PiS. These are not good signs. In the future, they will not facilitate cooperation. So, is there still time to seek an agreement? Especially since the main obstacle, which was the presence of the left in the coalition for PSL, no longer exists. The main forces of the left will go their own way in the elections.” https://www.rp.pl/Publicystyka/307219960-Hall-Czy-jest-jeszcze-szansa.html -- PSL IS GRAVITATING TOWARDS PIS - TOMASZ SAWCZUK IN KL: “As of now, the peasant party's best idea for the campaign is to distance itself from PO. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz is promoting a rather absurd view in this context, that the Platform has become a left-wing party, and the peasant party is forming the moderate center today. PSL is trying to kill two birds with one stone: attacking the Platform for its 'left-wing' leanings is intended to convince some of its voters to vote for the conservative PSL, while the act of attacking the Platform itself is meant to add credibility to the party and encourage potential PiS voters to vote for PSL. However, the Platform is still a moderately conservative party. As PSL distances itself from it, and at the same time must remain open to a coalition with PiS, it naturally gravitates towards Jarosław Kaczyński's party.” https://kulturaliberalna.pl/2019/07/22/psl-pis-koalicja-komentarz-sawczuk/ -- PEOPLE FROM SKOK ARE LEAVING POLITICS - WOJCIECH CZUCHNOWSKI AND MAŁGORZATA KOLIŃSKA-DĄBROWSKA IN GW: “Grzegorz Bierecki and Janusz Szewczak will most likely not be running in the upcoming elections. The first is the founder of the SKOK system. The second – the chief economist of Kas (Kasy Stefczyka – a type of cooperative savings and credit union). (...) The possible departure of Bierecki and Szewczak from politics does not mean that PiS is breaking ties with SKOKs, which still finance some pro-government media. According to our sources, in the next Sejm, PiS's support for Kas will be more discreet.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75398,25014968,ludzie-skok-ow-odchodza-z-polityki.html -- JOANNA SCHEURING-WIELGUS CHEERS FOR THE LEFT - fragment of an interview in Oko: “I am very much rooting for Biedroń, Czarzasty, Zandberg, and the Greens – I wish them unity. Generally, I support all pro-democratic forces. From the beginning, I was in favor of two blocs. There are three, but I also understand the PSL activists why they want to go separately. What's important is that these three blocs on the opposition clearly define their programs, and then no one will have to vote for the lesser evil, but according to their convictions.” https://oko.press/joanna-scheuring-wielgus-zakladam-nowy-ruch-obywatelski-wywiad/ -- PAWEŁ KACPRZAK IN GW ON THREE BLOCS ON ONE LIST - writes in GW: “Let the draw assign numbers on a single list to the three blocs currently forming. (...) All I want to say in the face of the failure of the idea of a broad front of democrats is that if the gentlemen Schetyna, Kosiniak-Kamysz, and Czarzasty, who decide everything in Poland today, had conducted their unfortunate talks in front of cameras, not hidden from them, we would not have reasons to lament today – none of them would dare to mention the interests of their own party apparatus. All hope lies in public pressure.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,162657,25014702,pawel-kasprzak-trzy-bloki-na-jednej-liscie-mozliwe-to-czy.html -- KAMIL DZIEBŁO ON PO WANTING TO END THE TVP BOYCOTT: “Everything indicates, however, that PO politicians will again start appearing in the publicistic programs of the state broadcaster. – A formal decision has not yet been made, but it can be expected that this will happen before the elections – we hear from a politician close to Grzegorz Schetyna. Why such a decision, given that Jacek Kurski still holds the most important seat at ul. Woronicza? – Elections happened in between – we hear from another Platform MP, who also notes: – Our assessment of what is happening at TVP has not changed. It's a combine harvester for crushing the opposition, they do disgusting things there. But the brutal truth is that for residents of smaller towns, especially older ones, this television is often their only source of information. Therefore, between a rock and a hard place, we should be there, especially during the campaign. We cannot cut off such a significant channel of contact with voters.” https://wiadomosci.onet.pl/tylko-w-onecie/platforma-konczy-z-bojkotem-tvp-jacka-kurskiego-mowia-nam-ze-mamy-isc-i-sie-bic/2es6ft7 -- PREPARING FOR A SECOND PREMIERSHIP? - ANDRZEJ STANKIEWICZ ON KACZYŃSKI: “There will be many such PiS picnics during the campaign, and the leader will appear at many of them. The aim is certainly for Kaczyński – who for years has been the leader in distrust polls – to feel pampered and overtake his lieutenants, the prime minister and the president, in adoration rankings. Could this also be preparation for a second premiership, which – it is heard – Kaczyński has his eye on?” -- KACZYŃSKI CAN SLEEP PEACEFULLY, BECAUSE THE OPPOSITION DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO INTRODUCE HIS RETIREMENT AGE - STANKIEWICZ'S CONCLUSION: “Certainly, the main goal is to win the elections. If there's one thing that can't be denied to Kaczyński, it's determination – he knows that losing power means the end of his career. Then even poll-based adoration won't help. The sad lady from the Platform with flyers illustrates what has long been an open secret. Just as PiS has its campaign planned almost to the day, the opposition – not only is it wasting time on mutual regroupings and negotiations – but it currently has no campaign plan. Although Kaczyński scares children at picnics that they need to mobilize for the elections, the truth is that for now, he can sleep peacefully, because the opposition doesn't know how to introduce his retirement age.” https://wiadomosci.onet.pl/tylko-w-onecie/newsletter-onetu-andrzej-stankiewicz-dobry-dziadek-jaroslaw-kaczynski/xpyy5dy -- BIRTHDAYS: Krystyna Skowrońska turns 65, Michał Dworczyk (44), Małgorzata Gosiewska, Paweł Kowal, Kinga Gajewska, Kuba Kurasz.
