-- ZBIGNIEW BUJAK: WHEN SOMEONE TELLS ME THAT PREVIOUS GOVERNMENTS WERE BETTER THAN THE CURRENT ONES, MORE LAW-ABIDING, I REPLY: PURE JOKES - he says in an interview with Eliza Olczyk in Rzeczpospolita: “I critically assessed his [TUSK’s] governments. During his tenure, the Act on Foreigners was passed, which contained almost 500 paragraphs. Such a law should not exist in a democratic state. Under the same government, the Ombudsman intervened in the case of women, foreign nationals with children, who were applying for asylum and were held in prison cells – admittedly open, but still a prison. For me, a man who has been to prison, this was unimaginable. Just like court proceedings dragging on for over a decade. When someone tells me that previous governments were better than the current ones, more law-abiding, I reply: pure jokes.”
-- NOMINATING ZEMKE TO ANNA RULEWSKA IS AN AFFRONT TO US ALL - BUJAK FURTHER IN AN INTERVIEW WITH OLCZYK IN RZ: “I understand him very well. Traveling around the world, I realized that the experience of Solidarity and the Polish transformation is absolutely crucial for many African or South American countries. Solidarity is still our export commodity, and a person of Solidarity is truly someone. Therefore, when we talk about who Poland is delegating to the European Parliament, behind it lies the question of what values we want to promote there. From this perspective, the fact that the European Coalition, i.e., Platforma, is nominating Janusz Zemke, formerly in the PZPR, to the European Parliament, and not Jan Rulewski, who is one of the icons of Solidarity, is simply an affront to us all.” https://www.rp.pl/Plus-Minus/304259962-Zbigniew-Bujak-Komunistyczni-funkcjonariusze-mieli-sie-swietnie.html
-- KRZYSZTOF PACEWICZ DESCRIBES A SURVEY FOR GAZETA WYBORCZA: THE YOUNGER THEY ARE, THE LESS THEY VOTE FOR THE OLD FORCES: “However, the younger Poles are, the lower the combined support for the 'old' forces – PiS and KE – and the higher for the 'new' ones. Among the youngest (18-24 years old), combined support for the 'old' is 38%, for the 'new' – as much as 58%. The majority of younger people do not want to participate in the political war waged by the older generation. But the young people are fighting among themselves in their own war: the war of the sexes. Among men aged 18-30, the leader in polls is the far-right Confederation (Korwin Braun Liroy Nationalists) with 29%, followed by PiS – 22%. Among women of the same age, the results are reversed: Wiosna and Koalicja Europejska are neck and neck, each gaining 27%. Young men and young women live in two different worlds. The statistically typical young Polish woman studies, votes for Biedroń, and participates in "black protests." The statistically typical young Polish man does not study, votes for Korwin, and participates in Independence Marches.”
-- 73% OF YOUNG WOMEN SUPPORT PARTNERSHIP UNIONS - PACEWICZ FURTHER: “Gender divides their entire worldview: young men are quite homophobic; only 49% of them support partnership unions. Among young women, it's as many as 73%! The majority of them also support same-sex marriage (59%), while only 36% of young men do.”
-- PACEWICZ WRITES THAT 30% OF YOUNG POLES HOLD FASCIST VIEWS: “If we add to this the fact that 30% of young men agree with the statement ‘One must be wary of Jews’ (among young women, it’s 16%), and 19% believe that Poland should leave the European Union (8% of women), a grim picture emerges. It can be safely stated that at least 30% of young Poles hold fascist views.” http://wyborcza.pl/magazyn/7,124059,24700696,mlodzi-wypisali-sie-z-politycznej-wojny-starszych-maja.html
-- PIOTR ZAREMBA: CLUMSY PROPAGANDA METHODS ON TVP WILL LAST UNTIL PiS'S FIRST ELECTORAL STUMBLE - he writes in Polska Times: “The appointment of presenter Danuta Holecka as head of the television's Wiadomości (News) program was seemingly a surprise. Why dismiss the long-term acting head Jarosław Olechowski, under whose leadership aggressive party propaganda became even more aggressive? Instead, they appointed someone who is a symbol, the face of this propaganda, so it’s not a move towards 'thaw.'
-- ZAREMBA ON THE MANEUVER OF APPOINTING HOLECKA: “Kurski therefore decided to at least cement what he has decisive influence over today: propaganda in Wiadomości. After Matyszkowicz's election, appointing Holecka by a three-person board might have been more difficult. Now it was obvious. Holecka is doubly protected from removal from office, even from criticism, because she enjoys the great sympathy and trust of Jarosław Kaczyński. As a result, 'on this front,' nothing is likely to change.”
-- THERE IS A NEED FOR TOUGHNESS, NOT FLIRTING WITH THE CENTER - ZAREMBA FURTHER: “Despite this, Kurski preferred to secure himself further: hence the choice of Holecka. His concerns may be lessened by the fact that the mood for changes in public media, if it ever meant anything in PiS, is now waning. The polls are good; they waited it out, and by waiting, they broke the teachers' strike. The European Parliament campaign is inherently more pronounced: hard electorates vote, and a serious competitor is the even more extreme right, primarily Confederation. There is a demand for toughness, not flirting with the center.”
-- MINOR, SOFTENING ADJUSTMENTS ARE ENOUGH FOR PiS ONLY UNTIL CATASTROPHE - ZAREMBA'S CONCLUSION: “But in this one case, no one can be silenced. Not even someone who clearly doesn't control their own thoughts. Even the reactions of the PiS spokesperson are no longer effective. Although instances of 'incorrect thinking' in a more liberal spirit are nipped in the bud within the ruling right. Of course, the atmosphere of rivalry with the ostentatiously hard-line, nationalist Confederation also plays a role here. One can complain about this system. It will likely continue until PiS stumbles, and quite seriously, in its electoral chances. Only minor, softening adjustments are possible. Until disaster?” https://polskatimes.pl/zmiany-w-tvp-danuta-holecka-szefowa-wiadomosci-zaremba-siermiezne-metody-propagandy-przetrwaja-do-pierwszego-potkniecia-pis-w/ar/c1-14081441
-- JAKUB MAJMUREK ON THE LACK OF ANY SIGNAL TO POLISH JEWS: “It is very significant that after the whole uproar regarding Mossbacher's wishes from the government, no signal was sent to Polish Jews: contrary to what people like MP Pawłowicz or Kaja Godek write, you are at home in Poland just like Catholics, Protestants, and atheists. The Polish nation, as defined by the Polish constitution, is all citizens of the Republic of Poland – not just ethnic Poles and Catholics. Purim, Pesach, or Ramadan are Polish holidays just like Easter and Three Kings.”
-- THE KACZYŃSKI BROTHERS DID A LOT TO DISTANCE THE RIGHT FROM THE TOXIC, NATIONALIST HERITAGE, BUT THIS LANGUAGE IS NOW RETURNING TO THE MAINSTREAM - MAJMUREK FURTHER: “Jarosław Kaczyński has had more power for almost four years than any politician had after '89. If this same period coincides with the return of the long-used antisemitic language and its figures to the mainstream of public debate, it will be a peculiar paradox. The Kaczyński brothers did a lot to distance the right from the toxic, nationalist heritage of Roman Dmowski. As their project begins to truly change Poland, the most foolish language of Dmowski's successors is increasingly returning to the mainstream. For now, weak and relatively politically powerless – but already dangerous at this stage, like an egg from which we know a deadly venomous snake or spider will hatch.” https://www.tvn24.pl/magazyn-tvn24/chciwe-parchy-zmijowe-plemie-anegdotka-pis-u-o-zbitym-kociolku,213,3647
-- JAROSŁAW GOWIN ON RELATIONS WITH ISRAEL - he tells Agaton Koziński in Polska Times: “I am one of those Polish politicians who consider good Polish-Jewish and Polish-Israeli relations to be in our national interest. I have expressed this publicly.”
-- GOWIN ON THE ACTIVITY OF FOREIGN SERVICES IN POLISH ANTISEMITISM: “The fact that other devils are active here is obvious to everyone. This is what other countries have their services for – to cause disturbances in neighboring countries, if it is beneficial for them. What hurts me even more are cases where we, Poles, play the role of useful idiots, providing pretexts for false statements that ‘we sucked antisemitism from our mother’s milk.’”
-- EITHER WE GET 2% MORE OR KE - GOWIN FURTHER: “The result of these elections is already decided – we just don't know it yet. Either we will get two percent more votes, or Koalicja Europejska will. Today, I don't know who will be ahead. But Poles have already made their decisions. The only thing that can change the voters' verdict are the mistakes made by one side or the other in the last month of the campaign.”
-- GOWIN WAS FOR REDUCING LABOR COSTS: “There were discussions in our camp about how to use the budget surplus. I advocated for a radical reduction in labor costs. In this way, we would give an impetus to the economy's development and begin to accumulate funds for future social transfers. However, a different decision was made, only partially consistent with my proposal. Professional politics means that when a decision is made, one must speak with one voice. So, you won't get me to speculate on this matter.”
-- GOWIN ON TUSK'S MESSAGE AT UW: “His lecture will take place in the hall of the University of Warsaw, which imposes certain limitations on the speaker. Donald Tusk has a sense for such matters. I expect him to respect the political autonomy of the university and focus on outlining the broad ideological framework of the civilizational dispute, without referring to current political affairs. The latter will happen on June 4.”
-- GOWIN ON TUSK'S SCENARIO IN CASE OF SCHETYNA'S DEFEAT: “In one hand, he will hold a banner, and in the other, Schetyna's severed head. But this is a scenario in case of defeat. If the European Coalition wins or draws in the European elections, then from Tusk's perspective, the situation will become complicated – because it will require him to reach an agreement with Schetyna. Then he will probably implement Scenario B: a supra-party list of candidates for the Senate under the patronage of Tusk himself and the mayors of large cities. We are in for a hot autumn. But for now, the United Right holds the cards. Until autumn, we must keep a cool head, not allow ourselves to be blackmailed by radicals, and show how we want to develop Poland, not just focus on social transfers. Then we will win.” https://polskatimes.pl/jaroslaw-gowin-alternatywa-dla-rzadow-zjednoczonej-prawicy-jest-lewicowe-barbarzynstwo/ar/c1-14081863
-- TEACHERS WON SOCIAL SOLIDARITY, PiS REANIMATED IT - EWA SIEDLECKA IN OKO.PRESS: “The fact that the teachers' side yielded does not mean they lost. The teachers won social solidarity. Just as earlier, resident doctors, people with disabilities and their parents, and before them, judges, won it. There will be more groups: court employees, paramedics, social welfare workers. In its pursuit of total power, PiS has reanimated the idea of solidarity.”
-- SIEDLECKA ON THE REVIVAL OF SOCIAL SOLIDARITY: “If PiS continues to rule – the social solidarity movement has a chance to deepen and grow. Especially based on local governments. If it loses power – the revived sense of social solidarity may allow for reforms to be implemented, starting with healthcare and education, which can make Poland a country friendlier to live in and safer for citizen-government relations.” https://oko.press/siedlecka-po-strajku-nauczycieli-pis-zabil-solidarnosc-i-ja-wskrzesil/
-- HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE TALKED IN 20 YEARS? THE SECOND? - SŁAWOMIR BRONIARZ TO PIOTR PACEWICZ IN OKO.PRESS: “I operate on the assumption that there's no point in dying nobly in tragic circumstances. We need to seek improvement, if not today, then tomorrow, even if it's modest, but to live. But to live, not to die. Even heroically. Some will say this is conformity, but for me, the most important thing was not to waste this social support and the revival of the union, also in the media… Let’s not kid ourselves, we're talking for the umpteenth time, and how many times have you interviewed me over the past 20 years? Once? Twice?”
-- BRONIARZ ON THE DESTRUCTIVE SETUP OF SOLIDARITY: “Why didn't we manage to snatch these raises now, and we'll return to this in the fall? The government's setup with 'Solidarity' proved crucial. It messed up our plans to act together as unions. That's why I brought the Forum of Trade Unions into the negotiations, even though we differ greatly in our assessment of the Zalewska reform, but on pay issues, we were able to speak with one voice, and that was the added value.” https://oko.press/broniarz-o-zawieszeniu-strajku-bohatersko-umierac-lepiej-zyc-i-walczyc-dalej/
-- BITTERNESS AS THE BEGINNING OF VICTORY - JAROSŁAW KURSKI in Gazeta Wyborcza: “Today, the authorities triumph. Just as in 1988, the state propaganda machine demonized the shipyard workers, so now it demonizes teachers. Just like then, it tries to strip the striking workers of what is most precious – their dignity. Humiliation is a feeling that is not easily forgotten. Sooner or later, every authority pays the price for humiliation – usually a high one. Let us therefore allow the authorities to enjoy this moment of triumph. Because it will be their last triumph.”
-- KURSKI COMPARES BRONIARZ TO WAŁĘSA: “The people's authorities triumphed. The regime television trumpeted that 'Solidarity' had been broken. However, three months later, another strike broke out in the shipyard, and a year later, that authority was gone. Communism ended in Poland on June 4. The head of the ZNP, Sławomir Broniarz, by unilaterally suspending the strike, showed that the ethos of a teacher and the well-being of graduating students are the highest good for the strikers. But he has not yet had the last word.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75398,24705415,upokorzenie-to-uczucie-ktorego-latwo-sie-nie-zapomina-za-upokorzenie.html
-- WOJCIECH ORLIŃSKI ON THE CAUSES OF CATASTROPHES - in Gazeta Wyborcza: "The situation got out of control." If these words had been spoken, there would have been no Chernobyl, no Air France plane crash, and several other tragedies. For no money in the world would anyone admit that something is going wrong: the worker to the foreman, the foreman to the engineer, the engineer to the director, the director. The moral? Never refrain from using these magic words. It's difficult, maybe we'll embarrass ourselves, maybe the boss will take away our bonus. But we'll avoid tragedy.” http://wyborcza.pl/magazyn/7,124059,24702249,sytuacja-wymknela-sie-spod-kontroli-gdyby-padly-te-slowa.html
