-- ABW ARRESTS, SEARCHES AT HUAWEI: “ABW has arrested two individuals suspected of collaborating with Chinese intelligence. The first is Weijing W., one of the directors of the Polish branch of Huawei, the Chinese telecommunications giant. The second is Piotr D., a former high-ranking ABW officer. (...) The arrested individuals are Piotr D., a former ABW officer, and Weijing W., one of the directors of Huawei in Poland. Both were arrested on Tuesday. According to TVP Info, counter-intelligence officers also secured documents and electronic data at the premises of Huawei, the Office of Electronic Communications, and Orange, for whom Piotr D. recently worked.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,156282,24351720,abw-bada-czy-polski-oddzial-huawei-wspolpracowal-z-chinskim.html

-- TAURON IS THE FIRST TO IMPLEMENT THE PRIME MINISTER'S CALL TO REDUCE MARKETING EXPENSES: “Tauron is the first of the large energy companies to announce savings in promotional spending. The management board has submitted a request to the Supervisory Board to cut the marketing budget by half, and budgets for sponsoring and promotion will also decrease. The market expects the same from Enea, Energa, and PGE. This is a result of cost rationalization, which will help curb the rise in energy prices.”

-- TAURON WILL NOT COOPERATE WITH THE POLISH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE: “Not long ago, it was rumored that Tauron was preparing to cooperate with the Polish Volleyball League. However, this prospect began to recede after the corruption scandal that erupted in the volleyball community in mid-November, when the CBA arrested officials of the Polish Volleyball Federation. Today, in light of the savings sought by energy companies, it seems even less likely.” https://wpolityce.pl/gospodarka/429083-spolki-energetyczne-oszczedzaja-na-marketingu-i-promocji

-- POLAND AS A US BASE ON THE EASTERN FLANK - JĘDRZEJ BIELECKI IN RZ: “The Pentagon is expected to announce its plan for our country in early March. However, following discussions in mid-December, including at the White House and the State Department, Krzysztof Szczerski, head of the President's Chancellery, is optimistic. – The matter seems decided. The concrete outcome will be an increase in American military presence and engagement in Poland. Thus, our country will become the center of American military activity in the region, a sort of regional operational base for the US armed forces – he reveals to ‘Rzeczpospolita’.” https://www.rp.pl/Polityka/301109904-Polska-baza-USA-na-flance-wschodniej.html&template=restricted

-- ŁUKASZ LIPIŃSKI ON THE FEAR OF SMALLER PARTIES BEING SWALLOWED BY PLATFORMA: “The Civic Coalition in its current form ceased to exist when Grzegorz Schetyna decided to exploit Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz's rebellion and attempt a hostile takeover of Nowoczesna. Schetyna's move not only destroyed trust between the coalition leaders but also frightened other potential coalition partners, primarily the leaders of SLD and PSL. Włodzimierz Czarzasty's and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz's parties do not want to play the role of appetizers that will eventually be devoured by Platforma.”

-- SCHETYNA IS UNABLE TO MAKE A MOVE LIKE KACZYŃSKI - LIPIŃSKI CONTINUES: “To win elections and gain power, Jarosław Kaczyński was able to take a step back and appoint Beata Szydło as prime minister. Schetyna, despite being aware of a significant negative electorate, seems incapable of such a move. On the other hand, the PO leader knows that his party must surround itself with allies in the elections because a portion of the opposition electorate will never vote for Platforma alone.” https://www.polityka.pl/tygodnikpolityka/kraj/1778070,1,dlaczego-partiom-opozycyjnym-tak-trudno-sie-dogadac.read?src=mt

-- MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IS PESSIMISTIC ABOUT PI'S SITUATION - writes in RZ: “Jarosław Kaczyński's party should not expect that the coming months will bring an increase in its support. The prevailing opinion among most commentators is that PiS has already reached its peak support, and the future may only bring troubles. Today, teachers are protesting, policemen have only just protested, and other professional groups, hearing that there are surpluses in the budget, will certainly queue up for raises. As for education, the problem is not only the teachers' protests. In the autumn, high school principals will face a convergence of cohorts resulting from the liquidation of middle schools. Problems will begin even before the summer holidays. Additionally, in a few months, the Court of Justice of the European Union will issue a ruling on the changes to the judiciary.” https://www.rp.pl/Komentarze/301109898-Szuldrzynski-Wyborczy-klincz-czyli-po-staremu.html

-- THE AGING REVOLUTION - MAREK BEYLIN in GW: “PiS brought Adam Andruszkiewicz, the former head of All-Polish Youth, into the government not only to weaken the nationalists. The ruling party also wants to revive the aging anti-democratic revolution. For example, through nationalism and anti-Semitism. (...) Moreover, Poles today desire peace, order, and an ever-better life. The politics of witch hunts and social wars with foreigners, and an alliance with nationalists, will not curb these aspirations. Rather, it will further alienate voters. Therefore, PiS's national revolution, even with anti-Semitism without anti-Semites, is now failing. Andruszkiewicz's appointment clearly illustrates this.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,24351009,pis-chce-nacjonalizmem-ozywic-dziadziejaca-rewolucje-ale-ten.html

-- NATIONALISTS GO TO EUROPE - TOMASZ BIELECKI in GW: “Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini could not announce an alliance between the Northern League and PiS after his meeting with Jarosław Kaczyński on Wednesday, although he probably hoped for it when he visited Warsaw. However, this does not mean that the two parties will not cooperate in the new European Parliament. It is possible that a faction of tougher and softer 'nationalists' is being prepared there, who govern or co-govern their countries, so they cannot afford true 'anti-systemic' behavior and must somehow come to terms with Brussels. This mainly includes PiS, the League, and also the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA) – Belgium's largest and essentially center-right party, which has recently started to strongly emphasize anti-immigrant rhetoric.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75399,24350733,kaczynski-salvini-le-pen-ramie-w-ramie-w-pe.html

-- MONIKA OLEJNIK ASKS WHETHER GLAPIŃSKI OR KACZYŃSKI WILL WIN: “It's interesting who will win this battle – PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński or NBP president Adam Glapiński. The latter president has so far played games with the former president, who supposedly controls the entire political scene to such an extent that the Italian deputy prime minister visits him at Nowogrodzka.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,24351049,glapinski-kontra-kaczynski-czyli-wielka-draka-w-bankowej-dzielnicy.html

-- RAFAŁ TRZASKOWSKI IN CONVERSATION WITH MARCIN FIJOŁEK ADMITS TO NAMING A STREET AFTER LECH KACZYŃSKI: “I believe that Lech Kaczyński deserves a street in Warsaw and this should be discussed. The majority of Varsovians would agree that one of the streets near the Warsaw Uprising Museum should bear the name of President Lech Kaczyński. This would be a topic that would not cause controversy. The issue was that these changes were made without consultation with the local government.” https://wpolityce.pl/m/polityka/428995-przychodzi-trzaskowski-do-karczewskiego-uwazajcie-panowie
