GW: PiS wants to win over Mazovia
Schetyna: We will propose a plan for adopting the Euro

-- GAZPROM LOSES POLAND - ANDRZEJ KUBLIK IN GW: “More cheap gas from the USA for Poland. An alternative to Gazprom. Duda: President Lech Kaczyński dreamed of such a partnership. PGNiG has signed a contract with the American company Cheniere for the supply of liquefied gas from the USA for 24 years. American gas for Poland is up to 30% cheaper than gas from Russia.”

-- FREES POLAND FROM DEPENDENCE - KUBLIK: “Such a competitive alternative of American gas will free Poland from dependence on Russia. If PGNiG negotiates a new contract with Gazprom in the future, it will be possible to set better terms than in the current agreement.”

-- SCHETYNA PROMISES THE EURO IN POLAND: “The statement by the leader of Civic Platform from his Wednesday address to the delegates of the European People's Party was reported by the Polish Press Agency. - For Civic Platform, Poland's accession to the euro area is an important goal. After we remove the populists from power, we will offer Polish citizens a plan to join the common currency area. We will launch a national debate aimed at obtaining broad social acceptance for this decision - said Schetyna. He also told the congress participants that he was bringing them good news from Poland. He emphasized that thanks to the formation of the Civic Coalition, they managed to stop "Kaczyński's offensive" in the local government elections.”

-- PIS WANTS TO WIN OVER MAZOVIA - Iwona Szpala in GW: “– Mazovia is a region where a few votes decide the majority. The Civic Coalition and the PSL have a slight advantage. We cannot give a 100% guarantee that we will keep the region, everything will become clear when electing the Marshal – says a PSL MP.”
-- SZPALA ON THE COMPETITION BETWEEN STRUŻYK AND KIERWIŃSKI FOR MARSHAL: “But PO and PSL are competing with each other. For PSL, it's clear – Struzik remains Marshal. However, Kierwiński, the head of PO in Warsaw, is also eyeing the same seat. - Immediately after the elections, he started circling around the position. The beginnings were modest, he wanted to be deputy marshal under Struzik. Then he got going – says someone associated with PO. Platform believes that they stopped PiS in Poland and therefore deserve more.”

-- WE DID NOT BEHAVE LIKE POLITICAL TROGLODYTES - PIOTR GLIŃSKI in conversation with Rigamonti x 2 in DGP: “Indeed, if our predecessors, using their monopoly of power at the time, had not used forceful solutions in this matter and had not disregarded the voices of millions of Poles, this political context would not have arisen. It was not us who behaved like political troglodytes here, it was not us who cleared away candles, who set drunken mobs against praying people, who pretended that a monument official decided on the erection of a monument to the victims of this catastrophe… Someone, in my opinion, consciously created this political context…”
-- ONR IS THE MARGIN OF THE MARGIN - GLIŃSKI CONTINUES: “No ONR brigade has the slightest political significance in Poland. It is the margin of margins, much smaller than in neighboring countries. Nationalist circles there are significantly stronger than in Poland. However, it is we, Law and Justice, who are accused by many people in Poland and abroad, including prominent politicians, of promoting fascism. That's what this propaganda is about…”
-- GLIŃSKI RECOUNTS AN ANECDOTE ABOUT “RED FORCE”: “Incidentally, I was going to this march. But I saw the text about "white force" and I resigned. My wife and children have blond hair, so we are more like a "red force"... I decided it was probably not for us (laughs).”
-- GLIŃSKI APOLOGIZES FOR PAWŁOWICZ: “Should I comment? Should I apologize for Mrs. Pawłowicz? I can apologize. If she wrote that, it's a scandalous epithet. Although the other side uses similar ones. But that doesn't excuse us. I read about myself that I am a censor, that I am carrying out Stalinist purges in theaters. It hurts me that such language is used and that people who use it in public life still function in it.”

-- JAROSŁAW GOWIN SPEAKS TO THE POINT LIKE TUSK IMPOSED A NEW NARRATIVE ABOUT POLEXIT: “I highly value Donald Tusk's political talents. I noted how he corrected the narrative of opposition parties about the alleged Polexit. Unlike Grzegorz Schetyna or Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the seasoned fighter Donald Tusk said: 'They may not want to leave the EU, but they are letting the genie out of the bottle, and leaving the EU may be an unintended consequence of the United Right's rule.' This is an argument that can resonate. We need to build a proper counter-narrative.”
-- GOWIN ON THE PROCESS OF FORMING ANTI-PIS SENTIMENTS: “I certainly see the seeds of a certain anti-PiS, or more broadly, anti-right-wing dynamic. If parliamentary elections were held tomorrow, I think the United Right would still have an independent majority. However, this process of forming anti-PiS sentiments has its own dynamics. If we don't stop it, then in a year, the scale of victory may prove too small to continue the rule of the United Right.

-- OPPONENTS OF ISOLATING FIDESZ AND PIS ARE YOUNG LEADERS OF EPP FROM SPAIN AND FRANCE - ANNA SŁOJEWSKA FROM THE EPP SUMMIT IN HELSINKI: “Opponents of isolating Orbán, as well as Kaczyński, are young generation conservative politicians, such as the leader of the Spanish People's Party, Pablo Casado, and the French Republicans, Laurent Wauquiez. The latter is concerned about Macron's strategy of contrasting liberal parties with populists, as it leaves no room for intermediate groups. – Macron has caused a deep division in Europe, he has pitted people against each other, he has treated Central Europe very brutally. And without unity, the Union will not survive – Wauquiez told 'Rzeczpospolita'.

-- MARIUSZ BŁASZCZAK WILL SING - as SE says: “- Although I don't sing in my daily life, on this special day I will join the army and all participants of the picnic. We will break a record in singing the Representative Song of the Polish Army. A few days ago, I also signed a decision according to which soldiers will sing the Polish anthem during ceremonies. I invite and encourage everyone to celebrate together.”

-- MONIKA OLEJNIK ON NO ONE HAVING THE COURAGE HGW DID: “The authorities are inviting, although recently they had completely different occupations. At 3 p.m. Nationalists – at 2 p.m. It's funny that they don't have complaints against the Prime Minister and the President for not waiting for a court decision, but against Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz. She is not organizing a competing march. And Messrs. Duda and Morawiecki should send a bouquet of white and red roses to the Mayor of Warsaw. They themselves did not have the courage to say "no" to the nationalists.”

-- RENATA GROCHAL ON THE RISK FOR PAD AND PMM: “The question is whether the state authorities will manage to gather enough officers from all over the country to ensure safety in Warsaw? Nationalists are not happy that PiS is trying to take their march away from them. Because they are considering putting their own list to the European Parliament, and the march is their only opportunity of the year to promote themselves. Therefore, it is doubtful that they will give up and cede the march to PiS. So, emotions will be high.”

-- SIEDLECKA ON THE FACT THAT THE GOVERNMENT MARCH DOES NOT HAVE PRIORITY: “Except that it's not true. The law on assemblies does not give state ceremonies priority. It only mentions them in one provision: that they are not subject to the law on assemblies. But that doesn't mean they have priority. If there are no legal provisions – the constitution decides. And it guarantees freedom of assembly – not to the authorities, but to the people. There is no word in it about any right of the authorities to organize ceremonies. And even less about priority. Therefore, a collision between a previously registered assembly and the authorities' plans should be resolved in favor of the "private" assembly. Any other interpretation would mean that the authorities can arbitrarily deprive disliked groups of the freedom of assembly by organizing ceremonies in places chosen by these groups.”

-- IT'S LIKE INVITING PEOPLE UNDER A TRAIN - SŁAWOMIR SIERAKOWSKI IN ONET ABOUT THE MARCH: “It was not difficult to predict, or at least rule out, that the nationalists would come anyway, because they would not so meekly let the liberal opposition steal their show. If they were to go home now because Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz told them to, they wouldn't be nationalists, hooligans, and troublemakers, but the PO youth wing. Duda will lead people, as he wanted, in a march with young bald people only against nationalists. Instead of avoiding clashes on the streets of Warsaw, the president and the prime minister, pleased to have received a gift, have guaranteed them. It's like inviting people to walk under a train.”

-- HGW HAS REACTED SLOWLY UNTIL NOW - KRZYSZTOF IZDEBSKI ON THE JAGELLONIAN CLUB PORTAL: “The only problem is that if such behavior occurred in previous years, she reacted sluggishly. Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz – but also both former and current central government representatives – neither reacted to aggressive slogans and actions of demonstrators, nor implemented solutions that could prevent such events in the future. The hysteria of the Minister of National Education around the so-called Rainbow Friday shows that the authorities also do not consider it worthwhile to strengthen an attitude of openness to others. The authorities of Warsaw have chosen the simplest solution – capitulation. This form of "resolving" the matter means shedding the enormous responsibility of being a moderator of public debate and shaping civic attitudes.”

-- ŁUKASZ ROGOJSZ IN GAZETA.PL ON THE RIVALRY BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT AND NATIONALISTS: “What's more, neither of the two sides in this dispute – neither the nationalists nor the government and the president – can back down and allow themselves to come out of this situation defeated. For the nationalists, it is essentially a matter of existence. It was the Independence March that brought them out of political oblivion and social ostracism. It quickly became their image showcase and an asset in the game for political survival. It is also the foundation of the memory policy they outlined, on which they have based their functioning in recent years.”
-- THE SPECTER OF DEFEAT IN THE PRESTIGIOUS FIELD OF DIGNITY HAS APPEARED BEFORE PIS - ROGOJSZ CONTINUES: “The specter of defeat has appeared before PiS in the most prestigious field for them – patriotism and dignity policy. It would be impossible to explain this convincingly to voters. Therefore, President Gronkiewicz-Waltz's decision was like an early Christmas present for the Duda-Morawiecki duo. They couldn't pass it up. Especially since the opportunity arose to kill two birds with one stone. On the one hand, to save the celebrations of the centenary of Polish independence, and on the other, to marginalize and subordinate the nationalists.”

-- IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DEFEND THE GOVERNMENT'S DECISION WHILE CRITICIZING HGW - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ: “However, it is impossible to defend the government's decision while criticizing the decision of the capital's president. And vice versa. The goal of the actions of both the Mayor of Warsaw and the PiS camp is the same: to prevent the nationalists from being the hosts of the march in the capital. Both the city hall and the government feared that the organizers would not be able to prevent the inclusion of people in the march who refer to ideologies prohibited by law.”
-- SZUŁDRZYŃSKI ON THE CONCERN ABOUT A BRAWL: “And instead of joyful anticipation of the centenary of regaining independence, there is growing concern that the holiday will turn into a common brawl.”https://www.rp.pl/11-listopada/181109408-Szuldrzynski-Nerwowe-odliczanie-do-11-listopada.html
-- ATTENTION, A NEW GENERATIONAL DIVIDE! - JAROSŁAW KUISZ in Kultura Liberalna: “For many people, getting acquainted with independence means getting acquainted with space. It started with buying apartments in housing blocks. After a few years, their residents became interested in the condition of stairwells and the surrounding buildings. The school of democracy in housing communities can be varied, sometimes unpleasant, but this is true, grassroots democracy, our own. Looking at the map of the state on a large scale distracts from this independence that we experience as real, not without its burdens.”

-- THE NEED FOR A REPUBLICAN MINIMUM - RAFAŁ MATYJA in Krytyka responds to Kuisz's text as part of the Spięcie project: “The republican minimum consists in rejecting those actions of politicians that lead to the destruction of trust as the foundation of the political community. Such actions include both the violation of the constitution and the destruction of the authority of public institutions. Such an action is the depravation of public media and the reduction of their tasks to primitive party propaganda. The defense of this republican minimum is, however, neither unconditional support for PiS's political rivals, nor even – at least in the current reality – a renunciation of various political visions of polemics with PiS. Kuisz's text suggests that the barrier to the formation of such a political consensus may be not only systemic or political issues, but also the cultural context of the dispute. A context that today hinders the rationalization of conflict. If Kuisz is right, then the role of the intellectual elite of his generation cannot be limited to understanding this entanglement. It is worth taking the second step.”

-- SOMETIMES A CHANGE OF NARRATIVE IS NOT ENOUGH, AND THEN A RADICAL CHANGE IS NEEDED - MICHAŁ SUTOWSKI AND AGNIESZKA WIŚNIEWSKA in Krytyka respond to Kuisz's text: “The reluctance and distance of many Poles from the state result from personal experiences with institutions such as schools, employment offices, district courts, or local clinics. There is no need to mention seven occupations and eleven partitions; experiencing the last thirty years is quite enough. (...) Meanwhile, this grassroots thinking about the common good is indeed becoming more visible, but rather because in the immediate vicinity (local government!) we immediately see the effects of our collective actions or omissions. All this, combined with rising aspirations (quality of life, not just the quantity of owned status factors), encourages us to work for the common good. But probably not in a guarded corporate estate. If we want to popularize this local energy, we would need more rental apartments in the Viennese style.”

-- LIBERALS, REBEL AT LAST! - KRZYSZTOF MAZUR from the Jagiellonian Club in KP in the Spięcie discussion: “Finally! – I thought before reading. The "Kultura Liberalna" environment distances itself from Adam Michnik and other masters of their youth! I believe that our debate badly needs a strong liberal voice, free from archaic schemes from the 90s. Continuing in these ruts destroys not only liberal thought itself but impoverishes us all. Unfortunately, although one can agree with Kuisz in certain diagnoses and the general "mood of the coming breakthrough," the proposed recipes do not yet herald the empowerment of the generation of "independent liberals.”
-- THE RULE OF LAW BECAME A TOOL FOR PROTECTING RIGHTS ACQUIRED BY THE NOMENCLATURE - MAZUR CONTINUES: “In the thinking of the reformers, there was doctrinarianism, adherence to rigid schemes, while turning a blind eye to "reality outside the window." "The rule of law" thus became a tool for protecting the "acquired rights" of the nomenclature from the 1980s, which hindered subsequent governments' effective decommunization. In turn, the liberalization of trade guaranteed by the Washington Consensus in practice led to an even greater advantage of foreign capital over domestic enterprises. From beautiful ideas taken directly from Western liberalism, we built a "periphery democracy," as accurately described by Zdzisław Krasnodębski. After thirty years of testing ideas brought from seminars at Oxford, we now know that such a method is not effective. Liberalism does not have a single universal answer that can be applied in any historical conditions. And Kuisz also seems to know all this.”
-- MAZUR ON THE GENERATION OF INDEPENDENT LIBERALS: “So, we will have to wait a bit longer for a generation of independent liberals – independent of former masters and thinking schemes. However, such a freedom-oriented voice is very much needed. Between the domestic right, which hopes for a renaissance of the nation-state, and the left, which is looking for a formula for a progressive, socially engaged state, there is an important area of reflection from the perspective of individual freedom. However, this cannot be doctrinaire thinking, thinking from the position of a theory that is not particularly interested in facts. For freedom ceases to be an empty slogan only when it is supported in the practice of social life by specific institutions, culture, and the system. And these must be reinvented, sometimes clearly criticizing the achievements of former masters.”

-- FILIP GRZEGORCZYK, PRESIDENT OF TAURON IN AN INTERVIEW WITH RZ QUOTES MAZZUCATO'S BOOK: “We missed out on subsequent technological revolutions. As it turns out, without an "Entrepreneurial State" (the title of Mariana Mazzucato's famous book – editorial note), it is difficult to build an economy capable of creating and implementing truly significant innovations. Today, global energy is at a breakthrough moment of transformation. Fortunately, this time we are not on the sidelines, so we should take advantage of this special moment.”
-- GRZEGORCZYK ON EMISSION REDUCTION: “Within the Tauron group, we are no longer planning to build large coal-fired power plants; the last such investment is an ultra-modern block with a capacity of 910 MW in Jaworzno. It is worth recalling that we will use coal mined in our own mines there. Thanks to this, the impact of fluctuations in raw material prices on global markets will be of secondary importance to us. The new block in Jaworzno, operating with the highest efficiency in its class in Europe, will reduce dust emissions by 91%, and nitrogen and sulfur oxides by 82% and 95% respectively. We are not abandoning traditional sources, but we are trying to use coal in a more modern and efficient way.”
