-- IN GW, PRIME MINISTER MORAWIECKI'S CONDOLENCES TO PRIME MINISTER MILLER.
-- MORAWIECKI TO SAKIEWICZ, WHO PRAISED HIM FOR CHECKING IF WATER IS POLISH: "I WAS CHECKING IF IT WAS SPARKLING": - Allow me to reveal. The Prime Minister pours himself mineral water and checks if it is Polish. Which prime minister has ever done such a thing before? I invite the Prime Minister who values Polish products. - I was checking if it was sparkling. https://twitter.com/lemingopedia/status/1035461461945069568?s=12

-- PIS IS MAKING THE SUPREME COURT IN ITS OWN IMAGE - PIOTR ZAREMBA IN DGP: "The idea to appoint Mariusz Muszyński to the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court was again a declaration of intent. It was not hidden that he was to be placed there to 'supervise the judges.' They eventually backed down from this, and rightly so, although it happened like in a famous sketch, by removing the goat from a crowded apartment. Because the rest looks like PiS is crafting the Supreme Court in its own image. This, in my opinion, removes any reason for Jan Rokita to rejoice. Because we are not talking about an accident at work, but about the essence of this reform. And where does the conviction come from that it will prove to be lasting?"
-- A RETURN TO THE CORPORATE SYSTEM WILL BE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A LARGER-SCALE PURGE - ZAREMBA CONTINUES: "It is decided by an ordinary law and can be reversed by an ordinary law. I suspect that the current liberal-left opposition will opt for a return to the corporatist-co-optative system. And in this way, it can count on the goodwill of the majority of judges. This will also be an opportunity for another purge, possibly on a larger scale than what we are observing today."
-- ZAREMBA ON THE RISK OF DAMAGING THE MACHINERY AND THE PATH TO CHAOS: "I agree with Jan Rokita when he explains to journalists from 'Wprost' that Jarosław Kaczyński is appropriating institutions not out of a pure lust for power, but in order to change society. When one's own party is considered the only tool for this change, such a method seems appropriate. We also share a dislike for judicial corporate excesses. It doesn't look good when the Supreme Court grants itself non-existent powers to suspend the provisions of a law – becoming a judge in its own case. What divides us is the assessment of the cure applied by PiS. Rokita mistakes its side effects for a crisis and sees salvation in the entire therapy. I see the risk of definitively damaging a very flawed machinery, even breaking the spine of the community. I also see the path opening up to later chaos. And I will gladly listen to where I am mistaken." http://www.gazetaprawna.pl/artykuly/1238304,piotr-zaremba-sady-na-drodze-do-utraty-niezawislosci.html
-- MICHAŁ KARNOWSKI "TECHNICALLY" ANALYZES SCHETYNA'S INTERNAL POSITION: "Schetyna's achievements as party leader are not small: he prevented the opposition leadership from being taken over by another entity (KOD, Nowoczesna), maintained poll support in the range of 20-30 percent, and has a good starting position for further political struggle. This is, of course, a technical analysis, because in terms of program, the Civic Platform's offer means misfortune for Poland."
-- KARNOWSKI ON THE PRESSURE FROM CZERSKA, WHICH IS DETRIMENTAL TO PO: "I am pondering the cause and I come to the conclusion that the deciding factor is the pressure from the media support, namely Czerska, and those circles that have lost the most under the PiS government. After all, someone previously had this 40 billion annually, enjoyed it, had fun with it, and today it has gone into the budget. These circles demand immediate results, a quick decrease in support for Jarosław Kaczyński's camp. In other words, they demand the impossible where the sensible solution is still consistent work on regaining voter trust. They prevent PO from normal communication with Poles, pushing it into some absurd, socially narrow, legal and moral issues. Some communist vegans-feminists claim the right to write the program for the largest opposition party. Good luck! By succumbing to this very pressure, Schetyna is starting to make mistakes. Among the more serious and ill-boding ones for the Platform, I include the PO leader's latest 'retaliatory' declaration." https://wpolityce.pl/m/polityka/410290-to-co-zrobil-schetyna-trudno-zrozumiec-po-co-mu-to
-- THE HOLIDAYS HAVE FURTHER STRENGTHENED MORAWIECKI - WE WRITE ON 300POLITYKA: "There is probably almost no one on the right today who wouldn't admit that Morawiecki is doing well as a frontman. Although his fate naturally depends on the election cycle, even critics from the first period of his premiership have reconciled themselves to the fact that there is no alternative for Morawiecki today. Jarosław Kaczyński has cut short speculation about who will lead the right to the elections, and Morawiecki is diligently repaying the trust of the PiS leader, including with his summer offensive. If anyone has clearly won the holidays on a national scale, it is Morawiecki, who spent the entire August traveling from farmers to the Baltic base of Polish aviators, from scouts to another regional PiS convention. Even the usually malicious Super Express noticed this, with the headline on its front page: 'He left his family on vacation and works himself.' He emerged victorious from the EU summit, reshuffling the regional coalition and finding common ground with neighboring prime ministers. He settled the issue of financing the Ekstraklasa and rewarded Olympians. He has organized relations with key centers on the right, appearing many times with Joachim Brudziński. The government machinery is working, and the office of Prime Minister has gained a level of effectiveness not seen perhaps since the time of Tusk."
-- SCHETYNA BENEFITS FROM TRZASKOWSKI'S CAMPAIGN - CONTINUES 300POLITYKA: "Grzegorz Schetyna emerges clearly strengthened from the holidays on the opposition's side, as he traveled with Katarzyna Lubnauer (also a plus, as Nowoczesna achieved disproportionately more than its potential) all over Poland, announcing new Civic Coalition candidates. Rafał Trzaskowski's campaign, resembling a mess of mistakes rather than the expected blitzkrieg, only highlighted to Platform politicians that perhaps Schetyna is not a showman who captivates crowds, but a safe pair of hands to prepare the liberal opposition structures for a more balanced fight with PiS than might have seemed earlier. It was Schetyna who launched the first successful attack on PiS. Populist billboards became one of the most important topics of the summer, and the Platform regained morale that it lacked after the Warsaw campaign, which passed carefree amid bees. There is no one today on this side who would threaten Schetyna's leadership, and if anyone seriously wrote that he could be threatened by, for example, Borys Budka, they are probably trying to forget it shamefully." https://300polityka.pl/news/2018/08/31/wakacje-jeszcze-bardziej-wzmocnily-morawieckiego-a-na-opozycji-pokazaly-ze-nie-ma-zadnej-alternatywy-dla-schetyny/
-- MACIEJ GAWLIKOWSKI ON KURSKI'S NEWS AND WAŁĘSA: "And after these 34 years of strong dislike for Wałęsa, I felt sympathy for him. Sympathy for Lech – the hero of August '80! Jacek Kurski did this. I watched DTV at 7:30 PM with a late dinner. Half of the anniversary broadcast was a huge spew at Wałęsa that the DTV of 1982 wouldn't be ashamed of. It's unbelievable. Never, in any television in the Third Polish Republic, has such vile, vulgar, humiliating propaganda been practiced. How do you feel, colleagues who work there? You are participating in a great lie. Can you look in the mirror without feeling sick?" https://www.facebook.com/100000747168953/posts/2145139705520914/
-- ONET WRITES THAT MACIEREWICZ MAY END UP AT NIK (DZIUBKA, ŻEMŁA):"This would certainly be a political sensation in the middle of an electoral "troika". According to Onet's information, the former Minister of National Defense is considering putting forward his candidacy for the president of NIK (Supreme Audit Office). The term of the current head of the Office expires in August 2019, i.e., between the elections to the European Parliament and the elections to the Sejm and Senate." https://wiadomosci.onet.pl/tylko-w-onecie/zrodla-w-pis-macierewicz-chce-byc-prezesem-najwyzszej-izby-kontroli/jhg7nlb
-- PIS ACTIVISTS BELIEVED THAT JAKI COULD DEFEAT PLATFORM - Łukasz Rogojsz in gazeta.pl: "A PiS activist from Warsaw: – Initially, it looked like Jaki himself wasn't very eager to cooperate with the Warsaw structures, but that changed later. A change also occurred among some local activists. They believed that Jaki could really defeat Trzaskowski, thanks to which they would also benefit, so it was worth helping him. There was no such feeling four years ago with Sasin." http://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/7,114884,23845655,malzenstwo-z-rozsadku-a-nie-z-milosci-co-warszawski-pis-sadzi.html#Z_Z_BoxNewsLink&a=66&c=96%23BoxOpinionImg
-- COMMUNISM WAS DEFEATED, AND IT WILL BE THE SAME WITH PIS - JADWIGA STANISZKIS IN WIADOMO.CO: "Everything can be reversed. What PiS is doing, on the one hand, is the destruction of the rule of law, and on the other, it is clear manipulation of history. It highlights those who were not very important, while ignoring others. The same happened at the beginning of communism, then came repressions, which will probably come now too. Fortunately, communism was eventually defeated. And it will be the same with PiS."
-- STANISZKIS ON THE DISTURBING INDIFFERENCE OF THE YOUNG GENERATION: "PiS is impatient, it does not respect the rule of law or democracy. What is disturbing to me is the indifference of the younger generation and this terrible demoralization, as if what is happening does not concern them."
-- I HOPE NOWACKA WANTS MORE THAN JUST GETTING HER PEOPLE INTO PARLIAMENT - STANISZKIS CONTINUES: "This lack of clarity on the left is related to genuine differences. Leftism can mean various variants. I hope Barbara Nowacka wants more than just getting her people into parliament." https://www.wiadomo.co/prof-jadwiga-staniszkis-pewnie-przyjda-represje-ale-potem-pis-przeminie/
-- NOWACKA'S INICJATYWA POLSKA IS A FICTION - WITOLD MROZEK writes in GW: "Barbara Nowacka's Inicjatywa Polska is already a fiction. This project has always been overestimated by Warsaw commentators, and it is becoming increasingly clear that its leader is to join PO."
-- STOP DESPISING SLD, IT'S LESS TO BLAME THAN YOU THINK - WITOLD MROZEK writes in GW: "Another matter is the attitude towards the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD). For many in Razem, dislike for it is indeed a matter of identity. But here, Pacewicz's perspective also doesn't help solve the problem. For the publicist, going with SLD means 'dirtying one's hands.' Meanwhile, when forming an alliance, the 'new' left must expect SLD to be better and more progressive than its sometimes very justified, and sometimes unfair, established image."
-- MROZEK ON BIEDROŃ'S IMPULSE: "Finally, there is Robert Biedroń, who regularly achieves promising results in presidential polls and hints at a return to national politics. Combining the success in Słupsk, his biography as an LGBT activist (formerly also a member of SLD) with the somewhat kitschy charm of a young Aleksander Kwaśniewski, he inspires hope – because the left has few charismatic leaders, and those it does have, it willingly clips their wings. Biedroń's entry into the game will be an impulse that could convince many an ideological activist to change their view on joining forces. Biedroń, however, will need structures, people, and money from the subsidies that the Alliance and Razem have." http://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,23847654,klucz-do-porozumienia-lewicy-przestancie-gardzic-sld-zawinil.html
-- TRZASKOWSKI COOKED HIMSELF AND IS ALSO INDIGESTIBLE - MARIUSZ CIEŚLIK AND ROBERT GÓRSKI IN RZ: "Since we don't even want to watch Rafał Trzaskowski's election campaign for laughs anymore, we have something from a different, party, barrel. They're writing on the internet that Grzegorz Schetyna is boasting everywhere about how he 'cooked' Trzaskowski by throwing him into Warsaw. And after a series of blunders, no one is talking about him as a future leader anymore. Everything adds up except one thing. Trzaskowski didn't need to be cooked; he cooked himself. And on top of that, he's indigestible." https://www.rp.pl/Plus-Minus/308309862-Cieslik--Gorski-Uwaga-zly-Kot.html&template=restricted
-- KOSZYKI IS ANOTHER WORLD FOR TENS OF THOUSANDS OF WARSAW RESIDENTS WHO FREEZE IN WINTER, LET'S CHANGE PRIORITIES - Wojciech Karpieszuk in Stołeczna: "I see how much Warsaw has changed for the better in recent years. Boulevards, modern trams and buses, outdoor gyms, bike paths, mushrooming club-cafes and various coffee shops. Hala Koszyki, Nocny Market, breakfast markets, fountains in the Old Town. But it's still another world for thousands, if not tens of thousands, of Warsaw residents who freeze in winter because they can't afford electric heating in communal apartments. After the change of power, let's change priorities. The most important thing is not the construction of new metro lines, which the candidates are fixated on. The most important thing is heating and the construction of new communal apartments and those for affordable rent. People need to live in decent conditions."
-- RYSZARD CZARNECKI ON TRUMP IN RZ: "He could be an introvert, as long as he conducts such foreign policy as he does. He is also fought by the same establishment that fights the Polish government. This is a sufficient reason to feel solidarity." https://www.rp.pl/Plus-Minus/308309897-Ryszard-Czarnecki-Jaroslaw-Kaczynski-planuje-kilkanascie-ruchow-naprzod.html&template=restricted
-- PIOTR ZAREMBA ON ENGLERT'S TEMPERAMENT AS A THEATRICAL SYMMETRIST - writes in RZ: "Isn't there any at the National Theatre? Englert seems to demonstrate the temperament of a symmetrist. During the ceremony of the 50th anniversary of Dejmek's 'Forefathers' Eve,' he, with a slightly trembling voice, expressed surprise at the absence of politicians from opposing camps in the audience, until someone shouted: 'Who is there to negotiate with?!' His recurring reflections leave no doubt: he is a person close to the sensitivity of the liberal intelligentsia. But he himself shies away from what he dismissively called interventionist theater."
-- WE UNDERSTOOD THIS THEATER AND EACH OTHER IN THIS THEATER WITHOUT WORDS - ZAREMBA CONTINUES ON ENGLERT AND THE NATIONAL THEATRE: "So what, that in his deaf aversion to the virtual world, the director did not want to allow online ticket sales for a long time. So what, that in the Poznań Polish Theatre, a singer performing in a leftist deformation of 'Kordian' lists his production as a symbol of aversion to women. He is, he endures. Like his brother Maciej, who at the Współczesny Theatre continues the tradition of Erwin Axer's literary stage. Both Englerts have become symbols of continuity – wise and open to change. This is neither revolution nor conservatism. What is it then? Theatrical symmetry? I watched 'Danton's Death' next to an acquaintance who is a liberal. We understood this theater and each other in this theater, without words."
-- AND YET I PREFER TO BE LOST WITH HIM - ZAREMBA'S CONCLUSION ON ENGLERT: "I can disagree with him, criticize him for compromising with reality – and I still prefer to be lost with him. It's a shame we don't wear hats, because one could tip them before the director. It is worth at least wishing him a successful season." https://www.rp.pl/Plus-Minus/308309893-Jan-Englert-Trafne-intuicje-symetrysty.html&template=restricted -- FATHER IN POLITICS AND SON CHOSE THE ROPE - Fakt's editor-in-chief apologizes for the headline in the newspaper. https://twitter.com/robertfelus/status/1035798634477039616?s=12
