-- WIFI ON PENDOLINO IN 13 WEEKS - PKP SIGNED AGREEMENT WITH ALSTOM - GW: “– The internet on Pendolino will be like the train itself, meaning premium – said Lesław Kuzaj, head of Alstom in Poland. He added that the internet speed will, however, depend on the quality of the signal received. The first Pendolino train with wi-fi will be ready in 13 weeks.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,155287,23834436,intercity-kupi-wi-fi-do-pendolino-za-31-7-mln-zl-w-pierwszych.html

-- NIGHT ATTACK BY TVN ON BLOGGERS FROM SATIRICAL-LIVE-STYLE VOGULE POLAND - THEY DELETED SEVERAL HUNDRED MEMES: “On Tuesday, in the early morning, TVN carried out an attack on the Vogule Poland Facebook page, during which they deleted several hundred memes. Yes, we are now at a point where TVN is not only targeting the recording of television, but also memes. MEMES, which in 2018 are something completely everyday and – it would seem – normal. Not according to the wise minds at TVN. Employees of this station apparently want to ban memes. Interestingly, some of the memes came from TVN productions, but some showed frames from Polsat and TVP productions, and others came from the private accounts of celebrities.” https://www.vogulepoland.net/nocny-atak-tvn-usuneli-kilkaset-memow-w-tym-zdjecia-z-produkcji-polsatu/

-- VOGULE POLAND IN A STATEMENT ABOUT TVN'S ATTACK ON MEMES: “However, we will not tolerate the deletion of memes that have existed for six years, and which TVN has suddenly started to object to at a time when we are beginning to highlight their attempts to censor independent media. Have TVN suddenly acquired new rights to them, or is this simply a low, petty attempt at revenge? Everyone will judge for themselves.” https://www.vogulepoland.net/odpowiedz-vogule-poland-na-oswiadczenie-tvn/

-- WYKOP MOBILIZES USERS AGAINST MEPs WHO WILL SUPPORT THE NEW VERSION OF ACTA2 IN SEPTEMBER - JULIA REDA, PIRATE PARTY MEP, PARTICIPATED IN A DISCUSSION WITH WYKOP USERS: https://www.wykop.pl/link/4498527/ama-with-julia-reda-fighting-against-acta2-in-the-european-parliament/

-- THE MEP FROM THE PIRATE PARTY SAID ON WYKOP THAT WITHOUT THE INTERNET UPROAR IN POLAND, ACTA2 WOULD HAVE BEEN PASSED IN JULY: http://www.stopacta2.org/ama-na-wykop-pl-z-julia-reda-poslem-do-pe-z-ramienia-niemieckiej-partii-piratow-gdyby-nie-zaangazowanie-aktywistow-z-polski-przegralibysmy-juz-w-lipcu/

-- IN A FEW HOURS, THE DISCUSSION WITH JULIA REDA WAS READ BY APPROXIMATELY 30,000 INTERNET USERS ON WYKOP.

-- ACTA2 - THE NEXT EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT VOTE ON THE DIRECTIVE LOBBIED BY LARGE PUBLISHERS, FACILITATING THE LIQUIDATION OF MEMES BASED ON COPYRIGHT, IS APPROACHING: “The proposed provisions threaten fundamental civil liberties, limit the development of education, science, business, and culture.” https://centrumcyfrowe.pl/reforma/

-- OPPOSITION, KICK YOURSELF IN THE HEAD, BELIEVE IN VICTORY - Marek Beylin in GW: “The main problem of the opposition, from the left to the liberal center, is that it sees itself as eternal opposition, not as imminent victors over Law and Justice. This applies less to the local government elections, as the campaign battle for major cities is still ongoing, but even in these simplest elections, Civic Platform, Nowoczesna, and various leftist parties lack the vigor and optimism necessary to mobilize voters. But the strongest evidence of this opposition's disbelief in success is its limited ability and willingness to form electoral coalitions. If the politicians were truly convinced that PiS would lose in the elections, we would have had two stable coalitions for a long time: a liberal one and a leftist one. The first, stronger, would strive for victory, the second, weaker – for a significant position in parliament.”

-- INCREASINGLY FREQUENT PROMISES TO JAIL PIS POLITICIANS PROVE THE OPPOSITION'S WEAKNESS - BEYLIN CONTINUES: “Another proof that the opposition primarily thinks about its weakness is the increasing frequency of promises to bring PiS politicians who have violated the constitution to justice. This reminds me of how, in the 1970s and 1980s, in various dissident circles, we comforted ourselves with the vision of jailing communists. It was truly not a sign of our strength, but a way to alleviate the feeling of political weakness, and it is the same today. The announcements of what trials we will bring against the current government are a form of self-comfort, because an opposition that believes in its own strength would primarily focus on designing a Poland where the recurrence of PiS rule or a similar authoritarian formation does not occur.”

-- BEYLIN WRITES THAT HE WOULD WELCOME BIEDROŃ'S SUCCESS BECAUSE THE LEFT WILL MAKE POLITICS MORE FRIENDLY:“I would welcome Biedroń's success because I agree with the comments that without a strong leftist formation in parliament after the 2019 elections, PiS will rule longer. Moreover, a significant presence of the democratic left would make Polish politics friendlier to people and clip the wings of populists (like PiS), who treat social policy merely as a way to increase their power.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,23836479,opozycja-kopnij-sie-w-glowe-uwierz-w-zwyciestwo-beylin.html

-- HAIL TO BIEDROŃ - Magdalena Środa in GW on Newsweek's smearing of Biedroń: “For now, I am not a fan of Biedroń's political project (if such a thing exists), but I am certainly not a fan of journalistic methods of smearing anyone. I would gladly learn about the arguments for the thesis of the necessity of consolidation around Civic Platform, but attacking (potential) political rivals seems counterproductive. More such texts, and Biedroń will gain strength. Or perhaps that's the whole point?”

-- ŚRODA ON THE CREDIBILITY OF NEWSWEEK'S ARTICLE ABOUT BIEDROŃ: “On whom does the author rely for witnesses? On a councilor from PiS and Biedroń's opponent for the mayoral seat (from Civic Platform), who claims that 'they wanted to sweep the matter under the rug'. Presumably, when the councilor from Civic Platform becomes the mayor of Słupsk, she will deal with all the pedophiles in the city (except those in churches, because she is very pious). For now, however, with the help of a journalist from 'Newsweek', she is doing her electoral work.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,23836482,huzia-na-biedronia-sroda.html

-- JACEK KARNOWSKI ON WHAT GERMANY'S ACCESSION TO THE THREE SEAS INITIATIVE MEANS: “Since they applied, it means they either consider this initiative valuable, important, or they see some kind of threat in it and want to be inside to ensure they know what's happening. This accession would certainly not have happened if our opposition, so eager to mock the Three Seas or Visegrad, were right. Berlin's declaration confirms that a genuinely independent regional policy can be key to increasing Poland's international significance, while simultaneously strengthening the entire region. Smart people in Warsaw know this, and smart people in Berlin and Washington also know it. Symbolically: Donald Tusk collected German orders wholesale, but it is the good change that has received true recognition from Berlin.” https://wpolityce.pl/polityka/409767-dobra-zmiana-doczekala-sie-uznania-ze-strony-berlina

-- RZ ON THE ALLIANCE OF ORBÁN AND SALVINI - as written by Jędrzej Bielecki: “The leader of the League, and also the head of the Italian Ministry of Interior, deliberately cut his vacation short to receive the Hungarian Prime Minister in Italy's economic capital on Tuesday. Viktor Orbán is a role model for him, a politician who has been able to outwit Brussels for eight years and consistently rebuild his country against the prescriptions of eurocrats. Now, Matteo Salvini also wants to follow this path, especially when it comes to lifting financial restrictions. And in Orbán, he sees a close ally in this endeavor.” https://www.rp.pl/Unia-Europejska/308289927-Salvini-i-Orban-ida-na-Bruksele.html&template=restricted

-- A JUDGE AGAINST THE LAW - Ewa Ivanowa on the front page of GW: “The Neo-Supreme Court of Justice has positively recommended to the Supreme Court a prosecutor who faced disciplinary proceedings and does not meet the statutory requirements. However, he meets the political criteria: he is one of Zbigniew Ziobro's key investigators.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75398,23836299,zawrotna-kariera-prokuratora-dusia-od-upadku-z-krzesla-do-sadu.html

-- RECORD HOT AND LONG SUMMER:“Therefore, it can be safely said that this year we have experienced not only a hot but also a record-long summer. And since another El Niño is currently developing in the Pacific, a climatic phenomenon that always heats up the world, it is likely that the entire year 2018, like the previous four-year period, will turn out to be globally one of the warmest in recorded history.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75400,23836959,lato-mamy-w-tym-roku-rekordowe.html
