POLITICAL STATE OF PLAY: Virtual Media on Campaign Styles, Uhlig: Electoral Law is a PiS Gift to the Opposition, RZ: PO and N Politicians Worry Sutryk is… a Bachelor

-- 300LIVE: SON OF ANDRZEJ CZUMA LEAVES PO AND SUPPORTS JAKI: https://300polityka.pl/live/2018/07/27/

-- ŚPIEWAK APPEALS TO SLD: In connection with the probable withdrawal of Andrzej Celiński’s candidacy, we appeal to the Warsaw SLD for support for the only progressive force in the upcoming elections. https://twitter.com/JanSpiewak/status/1022537244744327168

-- WILL SCHETYNA START EARNING TRUST WITH PROTESTS IN THE SUCHANOW STYLE? - ŁUKASZ PAWŁOWSKI IN KULTURA LIBERALNA: “What is the best possible scenario in this case? Let’s imagine Suchanow pushing through a police cordon, writing the same sentence not once, but ten times. That the same thing, only from the inside, is done by MP Joanna Schmidt’s driver, Paweł Kasprzak. And then what? Will people suddenly stop supporting PiS, will Grzegorz Schetyna start earning trust, and will PiS MPs and senators walk out of the parliament building with their hands raised?”

-- WHO WOULD WIN IN SNAP ELECTIONS? - ASKS PAWŁOWSKI: “What then? What can they demand? Surely not renewal of public life, social justice, improved relations with the European Union, or the reversal of all laws threatening the democratic order. These are too general and vague goals, and their implementation would take months, if not years. They can demand only one thing – to remove PiS from power, and therefore snap elections. Who would win them? I invite you to read the polls. In one of the latest, conducted at the end of June by Ibris for Onet, PiS notes the biggest increase in support and, with 37.8 percent, would win Sejm elections.”

-- THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS, THE OPPOSITION MUST GAIN MAJORITY SUPPORT FOR ITS OFFER - PAWŁOWSKI'S CONCLUSION: “Unlike the times of the Polish People’s Republic and the first ‘Solidarity’ – to which opponents of the government who remember those times so like to refer – the ultimate goal of the opposition is not to force concessions from the government, but its complete overthrow. How should this change happen? I hope that at least on this issue we all agree – through elections, not a coup d'état. If so, regardless of what protest methods the government’s opponents call for, the opposition must gain majority support for its offer. There are no shortcuts.” https://kulturaliberalna.pl/2018/07/27/protesty-opozycji-nie-kazdy-powinien-byc-klementyna-suchanow/

-- RZECZPOSPOLITA WRITES THAT PO AND NOWOCZESNA POLITICIANS WORRY THAT SUTRYK… IS A BACHELOR…- as Zuzanna Dąbrowska writes: “Civic Platform politicians worry that Sutryk does not have a thick enough political skin. He is also a bachelor, which will not make it easier for him to fight for the electorate that values politicians building family relationships. – Of all his people, Dutkiewicz chose the mildest, because he will be the easiest to control when the right moment comes. When? When Tusk arrives on a white horse, and Rafał will lead that horse by the bridle – say acquaintances of the Wrocław mayor” http://www.rp.pl/Wybory-samorzadowe/307269892-Wybory-we-Wroclawiu-Trudne-puzzle-koalicji.html&template=restricted

-- MIROSŁAWA STACHOWIAK-RÓŻECKA SPEAKS ABOUT THE PARTY “IT’S GREAT, LET’S NOT CHANGE ANYTHING” - in an interview with Jacek Nizinkiewicz in RZ: “Yes, I am a Law and Justice candidate for the mayor of Wrocław. I was a councilor for two terms on behalf of this party. Currently, I am a member of parliament. And I have done a lot to force the Wrocław authorities to deal with the residents’ issues. If someone decides their support based on party labels – that is their right. However, I would like to remind you that the city’s problems do not have party colors. I know one thing. My opponents, who have recently been changing candidates and throwing around recommendations, also belong to a party. It is the party ‘It’s great, let’s not change anything’.”

-- STACHOWIAK-RÓŻECKA NOTES THE POSITIVE ROLE OF ZDROJEWSKI: “Rafał Dutkiewicz leaves behind a certain style of governance, good at the start, but evolving in a dangerous direction over the years. We have a recognizable city with a beautiful Old Town. Although it is worth noting that some key issues were initiated by Bogdan Zdrojewski.”

-- STACHOWIAK-RÓŻECKA ON THE ORDINARY RESIDENT'S AFFAIRS GETTING LOST: “Amidst the big issues, the small things get lost, the perspective of the resident’s daily life disappears. It’s a bit like the Matrix. On the one hand, we have grand, truly world-class initiatives, buildings, and events. We talk about our place in Europe, comparing ourselves to wealthy Western cities. And on the other hand, the daily struggle in traffic jams, riding a high-floor and often breaking down tram, fighting for a place in a nursery, the tedious task of taking children to school.” http://www.rp.pl/Wybory-samorzadowe/307269893-Stachowiak---Rozecka-Wroclaw-troche-jak-matrix.html

-- ROBERT BOGDAŃSKI ON FB: “My appeal: less hysteria. We have truly very cultured demonstrators. They politely shout 'get out' and scrawl graffiti on the pavement. If we were in France, they would be burning cars and vandalizing shops. We have truly very cultured police. They subdue, disperse, sometimes push someone in the crowd and issue a citation. If we were in Spain, the bodies of demonstrators would be bleeding on the sidewalks. Everyone is doing their job. Demonstrators demonstrate, and the police intervene. Thank you very much to both sides for their restraint.”

-- TRZASKOWSKI WITH RELUCTANCE, JAKI WITH DETERMINATION - VIRTUAL MEDIA ON THE WARSAW CAMPAIGN: “In polls regarding the Warsaw mayoral election, Rafał Trzaskowski is currently winning. His main opponent, Patryk Jaki, remains slightly behind, but is closing the gap. According to PR agency experts, Jaki appears to be running a better communication campaign, showing more determination and diligence than Trzaskowski. The latter’s actions give the impression of being carried out with reluctance.”

-- PR EXPERT MAREK GIEORGICA ON TRZASKOWSKI'S INEPTITUDE: “- The campaign has not been going Trzaskowski’s way from the start. The attempt to position himself as a dynamic, modern candidate, full of energy and ideas, has so far failed. This is partly due to awkward statements, such as the one that we don't need the CPK because an airport is being built in Berlin. Unfortunate statements show the candidate's lack of preparation to lead the city. Trzaskowski’s ineptitude in running an online campaign is also a surprise. He was previously known for creative and effective communication ideas with voters online. Meanwhile, he is now losing the online campaign. Jaki's supporters are much more mobilized, and Trzaskowski himself is making mistakes – for example, changing his biography on the website to hide Krakow and emphasize Warsaw – analyzes Marek Gieorgica.” https://m.wirtualnemedia.pl/m/artykul/wybory-na-prezydenta-warszawy-rafal-trzaskowski-z-kampania-od-niechcenia-patryk-jaki-z-determinacja-i-wpadkami

-- WE RECEIVED A GIFT FROM PIS - Dominik Uhlig writes in GW about the electoral law: “You will ask how an undemocratic electoral law for the European Parliament can be considered an opportunity. Well, since 2015, we have been living in a state that is increasingly democratic only in name. It's time to accept this and start playing effectively, even if the rules are dictated by a brutal opponent.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,23723510,dostalismy-prezent-od-pis.html

-- PEOPLE SUPPORT PIS FOR ATTACKING THE ELITES BECAUSE THEY FEEL FRUSTRATED AND INSECURE - JADWIGA STANISZKIS in an interview with Interia: “– Support may decrease. I don't really understand the social reactions. People support PiS because of the attack on the elites, because they feel frustrated and insecure. Unjustly so, because Poland is a country that has shown its value throughout history. And secondly, for me, Duda is a man who endorses authoritarian anarchy, as I call it. Anarchy, because the state, institutions, law, and the division of powers are being destroyed – and he is part of it, and authoritarian, because in the background there is hope that society will be rebuilt. In PiS, the words 'transformation' and 'rebuilding' are repeated often. I think someone like Duda is not capable of changing anyone, certainly not me or my generation. We look at him with a pinch of salt, until he passes.” https://fakty.interia.pl/autor/aleksandra-gieracka/news-prof-staniszkis-duda-nie-odwazy-sie-na-odwet-za-odrzucenie-r,nId,2611403

-- PIOTR PACEWICZ ANALYZES JAROSŁAW KACZYŃSKI'S INTERVIEW FOR TVP: “Kaczyński says, no more, no less, that taking over the term of the First President of the Supreme Court is possible because the legislator in another article (180) did not foresee that someone would have such an idea. Indeed, the imagination of the creators of the Constitution of the Third Republic did not extend that far. In general, democracy is helpless against those who violate its principles.” https://oko.press/dowcip-kaczynskiego-o-zyciu-pozagrobowym-prof-gersdorf-dalej-bylaby-prezesem-sn-cha-cha-cha/

-- HEAD OF AKCJA DEMOKRACJA ON THE COMPLAINTS OF THE OLD ABOUT THE YOUNG NOT PROTESTING - I SEE PATERNALISM - Weronika Paszewska says in an interview with Łukasz Rogojsz in gazeta.pl:“Perhaps the reason is the feeling that they have made great contributions to Poland during the anti-communist opposition? Or perhaps the belief that they have already done something for the country, so now someone else, younger, should take on this responsibility? In any case, I notice a lot of paternalism from the older generation, who remember the times of the Polish People’s Republic and fought for democracy then. There is a lot of looking down on the young, lecturing them, and that serves no purpose.”

-- PASZEWSKA ON THE ASSESSMENT OF THE THIRD REPUBLIC AND ISSUES NEGLECTED BY PO AND PROTESTS: “Certainly, a few more things can be pointed out, but indeed these two are of great importance. I think the different assessment of the Third Republic is crucial. And this often comes up in discussions about what protest movements should focus on. Some feel that their primary task is the defense of democracy, and then we will deal with all those other issues that Civic Platform and PSL neglected during their eight years in power. And I ask, what about minority rights, what about women’s rights, what about ensuring a dignified life for people with disabilities or for all of us who find it harder to find our place in the job market, where employees have virtually no rights? Because with so-called 'junk contracts,' one can only dream of a vacation.” http://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/7,114884,23718179,to-nie-koniec-wojny-o-wolne-sady-wladza-jeszcze-nas-nie-ograla.html

-- ADAM SZOSTKIEWICZ ON THE END OF FREE POLAND, WHICH FRISZKE WROTE ABOUT ON FB: “Can there be anything more terrifying for people like Friszke than the words: the end of free Poland? There cannot be. It has been warned many times that PiS coming to power means an authoritarian turn, completely contrary to the spirit and letter of Poland after 1989. Many people thought it was an exaggeration, even hysteria. And it will get worse, because such is the logic of the 'conservative counter-revolution' of Kaczyński’s camp. People who do not belong to it and do not want to join it feel increasingly alien in the land of good change. Even if the contribution of many of them to regaining independence and democracy is incomparably greater than that of most ‘good change’ activists.” https://szostkiewicz.blog.polityka.pl/2018/07/26/ku-przepasci/

-- PIS ACCIDENTALLY DID SOMETHING GOOD - Roman Graczyk on the referendum: “The ruling party has therefore saved us from misfortune. But this probably happened for reasons other than those outlined above. PiS is neither a guardian of anti-populist moderation nor a guardian of the purity of constitutional matters. The reasons for torpedoing the President's initiative are different: fear of a turnout defeat, which would inevitably hit the ruling party by ricochet, and reluctance to tolerate Andrzej Duda’s political independence. By accident, PiS has done something good for the country. Will the country appreciate it?” https://fakty.interia.pl/opinie/graczyk/news-pis-przypadkiem-ratuje-nas-przed-kleska,nId,2611459

-- MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI ON THE ABSURD APPEAL TO THE SOVEREIGN - writes in RZ: “I am not comparing PiS to the Polish People’s Republic. But the problem is similar. Constantly appealing to the will of the sovereign leads – not only in the context of the conflict with the president – to absurd situations. Because from time to time PiS backs down from its ideas, admitting its mistake. When does PiS truly represent the sovereign, when it proposes an idea, or when it withdraws from it?” http://www.rp.pl/Komentarze/180729597-Michal-Szuldrzynski-Niebezpieczne-igranie-z-wola-suwerena.html&cid=44&template=restricted

-- KACPER PŁAŻYŃSKI PRESENTED A NEW PLAN FOR GDANSK'S COOPERATION WITH LECHIA: “'Lechia at the Source' – this is how Kacper Płażyński named the plan to change the principles of cooperation between the city of Gdańsk and Lechia. The city should have its representative on the club's Supervisory Board – argues the candidate for mayor of Gdańsk on behalf of Law and Justice.” http://www.dziennikbaltycki.pl/sport/lechia-gdansk/a/kacper-plazynski-przedstawil-pomysl-na-zmiane-zasad-wspolpracy-miasta-gdanska-z-lechia,13368536/
