-- 300POLITYKA ON THE GAME OF NERVES DURING THE EU LEADERS' DINNER AND POLAND'S SUCCESS IN MAINTAINING THE VOLUNTARY NATURE OF RELOCATION AND THE DUBLIN MECHANISM: “Prime Minister Morawiecki focused on an alliance within the Visegrád Group during the summit. 'Mainly with the help of Babiš and Orbán, we managed to secure such a position,' relates one of the delegation members. Threats of breaking up the summit were reportedly made from both sides – supporters of the relocation system and opponents, including Poland. Deliberations were interrupted almost constantly. 'These were tough negotiations,' he adds. 'The dinner lasted several hours. Countries got up from the table, wanting to break off talks.' https://300polityka.pl/news/2018/06/29/panstwa-wstawaly-od-stolu-chcialy-zrywac-rozmowy-kulisy-gry-nerwow-wokol-utrzymania-dobrowolnosci-relokacji-i-systemu-dublinskiego/

-- WPOLITYCE WRITES HOW MORAWIECKI CONVINCED BABIŠ OVERNIGHT: “At one point, everyone started to crack, to back down. Before midnight, Mateusz was almost alone, of course, along with the Hungarians. The promised money for roads and bridges did its job. Merkel was playing for time,' one of the Polish delegation members tells wPolityce.pl. 'However, we managed to win over Czech Prime Minister Babiš, and that slowly broke the deadlock.'” https://wpolityce.pl/polityka/401781-tylko-u-nas-dramatyczne-kulisy-szczytu-w-ue

-- BEFORE OUR EYES, MORAWIECKI IS BECOMING THE LEADER OF THE RIGHT; A DAY THAT WILL CHANGE PIS - writes Jacek Gądek on gazeta.pl:“This day will change PiS. The entire machinery of power worked in favor of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and without a single public peep of dissent within the ranks of power. The opposition is lambasting the express and etiquette-violating procedure through which the amendment to the Institute of National Remembrance Act was railroaded through the Sejm. The powerlessness of this opposition is merely a weak backdrop for the surgical operation conducted by Mateusz Morawiecki. It is a demonstration of the Prime Minister's agency and effectiveness – both domestically and internationally. The first such spectacular.”

-- MORAWIECKI IS MATURING INTO THE ROLE OF PIS CAMP LEADER - writes Gądek in gazeta.pl:“One cannot overlook the domestic implications. It is evident how, month by month, Mateusz Morawiecki is maturing into the role of the PiS camp leader. When he became Prime Minister half a year ago, I wrote that he possesses a unique ability to convince J. Kaczyński of his points and earns his genuine respect, even admiration. Yesterday and today, these qualities have materialized in real politics. A week ago, the scenario realized yesterday would have sounded like political fiction. The fact that it was realized proves that the Prime Minister's position in PiS is stronger today than ever before.”

-- MORAWIECKI WITH A NEW GENERAL'S STAR ON HIS SHOULDER - GĄDEK'S CONCLUSION: “From this entire unnecessary and devastating diplomatic war for the country, Morawiecki returns stronger, with a new general's star on his shoulder and a more disciplined army beneath him.” http://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/7,161770,23606150,dzien-ktory-zmieni-pis-na-naszych-oczach-mateusz-morawiecki.html

-- PIOTR SKWIECIŃSKI ON ISRAEL HAVING GONE FAR:“Contrary to Poles suffering from an inferiority complex, good relations with Warsaw are so necessary that Israel decided to compromise, not try to roll us over with a steamroller. Prime Minister Netanyahu, in his speech, equated anti-Polonism with antisemitism. Everyone who knows anything about Jewish sensitivity and the central place antisemitism occupies in the Jewish world knows that he went very, very far in this way.”

-- WE WERE NOT RUN OVER BY A STEAMROLLER - Skwieciński continues:“We were not run over by a steamroller. We maintained our subjectivity. After which we reached a compromise. Difficult for us, but also for the other side.” https://wpolityce.pl/m/polityka/401717-kompromis-pokazuje-ze-wcale-nie-jestesmy-wiecznym-petentem

-- PAWEŁ BRAVO IN TP THAT WE LEARNED THAT THE EXCHANGE RATE OF ANTISEMITISM IS QUITE HIGH:“In the meantime, to move beyond this circle of speculation, it is worth answering here on the Polish scene the question of what we know for sure and what we move forward with. Firstly, thanks to the uproar stirred up at the end of January by the IPN Act, some masks have fallen, and we have learned the current exchange rate of antisemitism on the Polish political stock market. Quite high, it turns out, if anyone didn't know.”

-- EVERY HOUR OF DELAY THREATENED TO UNLEASH ANTISEMITIC SLUDGE - Bravo continues:“One can also ironically note that thanks to the swift action on Wednesday, we learned that we have a well-functioning e-state, since the President managed to electronically sign the bill while abroad. Apparently, one couldn't wait for his fountain pen to return. A teleconference with Tel Aviv was scheduled for six o'clock, and every hour of delay (not to mention days) threatened that from some corner of the political scene, antisemitic sludge would eventually emerge, so vile that it would spoil the entire positive effect of the rapid amendment of the law.” https://www.tygodnikpowszechny.pl/po-co-nam-to-bylo-153635

-- MONIKA OLEJNIK ON MORAWIECKI'S MASTERSTROKE:“Last Wednesday, Morawiecki showed a masterstroke in the Sejm – stupid provisions were rapidly discarded, and within a few hours, we found ourselves in a different country. The Prime Minister also demonstrated how parliament can be silenced. There was no debate in the Sejm, no sending the bill to committee, just a swift vote. The opposition found itself in a trap: Civic Platform, Nowoczesna, and PSL could not vote against it, knowing the damage the law had caused.”

-- OLEJNIK: WE WOULD LIKE TO TURN BACK TIME BY 5 MONTHS, BUT WE CAN'T: “Perhaps someone should give Mr. Chairman a review of what has been said about Poland over the last 5 months. Oh, how we would like to turn back time by these 5 months, but we can't.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,23610909,gra-w-durnia.html

-- BAN RUSSIAN TROLLS - Joanna Lichocka in GPC:“Thanks to the IPN Act and the declaration of both prime ministers, the truth about Poland is breaking through layers of lies. About its struggles, heroism, suffering. And this – like thwarting the attempt to destroy our relations with the USA and Israel – is very much to the Kremlin's displeasure. Russian trolls are going wild online, let's ban them.” https://gpcodziennie.pl/92821-banujmyruskietrolle.html

-- BRAVO POLAND, BRAVO ISRAEL - Piotr Lisiewicz in GPC:“Anti-Polonism condemned like antisemitism. Speaking of Polish concentration camps is a lie that diminishes Germany's guilt. The Holocaust was carried out by Nazi Germany against the Jewish people and all Poles of Jewish origin. The Polish Underground State and the Polish government-in-exile behaved in a commendable manner. Prime Minister of Israel signed under these claims. The joint declaration of Prime Ministers Mateusz Morawiecki and Benjamin Netanyahu is a historic event.” https://gpcodziennie.pl/92791-brawopolskabrawoizrael.html

-- THE PO-PIS COALITION IS WORKING FULLY; PUBLICLY THEY CLASH, PRIVATELY THEY COOPERATE - Adam Leszczyński in gazeta.pl:“Civic Platform and PiS activists jointly rejected the discharge of Robert Biedroń in Słupsk. When it comes to a left-wing politician, the brave Platform suspends its fight with PiS. Both parties, incidentally, are closer to each other than one might think.”

-- IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT BIEDROŃ, THERE HAVE BEEN MORE SUCH SITUATIONS - Leszczyński continues:“It's not just about Robert Biedroń's discharge. There have been more similar situations. In February, the opposition unanimously abstained from voting on the unfortunate amendment to the IPN Act, from which the Morawiecki government has now withdrawn with its tail between its legs. On TVP, Marshal Barbara Dolniak from Civic Platform commented on this. 'I abstained from voting because, like everyone else, I am in favor of actions aimed at caring for the good of Poland, for the good name of Poland and the Polish Nation. But this law is not well-prepared,' she said.”

-- THIS ESCAPES THE POMPOUS MORALISTS FROM THE BOURGEOIS PRESS, BECAUSE THE FRONT OF NATIONAL UNITY ON THE GROUNDS OF NATIONALISM AND MORAL CONSERVATISM, PO AND PIS ARE DOING WELL - LESZCZYŃSKI'S CONCLUSION:“All these examples somehow escape the pompous moralists from the bourgeois press who condemn the left, for example, for putting forward their own candidate in the Warsaw mayoral elections. The Front of National Unity – the agreement between PO and PiS on the grounds of nationalism and moral conservatism – is doing excellently. Who knows, maybe there will be a government without Kaczyński after all? I bet Gowin will be Deputy Prime Minister again. http://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/7,161770,23606306,koalicja-po-pis-dziala-w-najlepsze-publicznie-biora-sie-za.html

-- MAREK BEYLIN ON CZARZASTY'S MERIT FOR THE 10% OF SLD:“These generous gifts from PiS, however, do not sufficiently explain why the SLD has, from month to month, surged to 10% and taken a place on the podium of Polish politics. Włodzimierz Czarzasty deserves much credit for this. He presents himself as a dynamic leader, always ready to cooperate with any grouping from the democratic camp, and at the same time, the SLD does not merge into one with the opposition. Czarzasty spares no malice towards Platform, but time and again hints at the possibility of joint actions during the parliamentary elections in 2019.”

-- HOWEVER, SLD MAY TURN OUT TO BE SECOND-RATE - BEYLIN'S CONCLUSION:“This is also the biggest problem for the entire SLD. Today it has a future, but if it rests on its laurels, tomorrow it may turn out to be a second-rate grouping. Especially if competition emerges.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,23610913,10-proc-w-sondazach-hojne-prezenty-od-pis-daly-sld-szanse.html

-- TOMASZ PIETRYGA IN RZ ON THE RETURN OF THE DUBLERS - he writes in RZ:“This does not mean that PiS will get rid of the problem. It is not impossible that a scenario similar to the one in the Constitutional Tribunal is being prepared: new judges will be branded as 'dublers,' and their resolutions will be questioned.” http://archiwum.rp.pl/artykul/1380050-Powrot-sedziow-%E2%80%9Edublerow%E2%80%9D.html

-- EWA SIEDLECKA ON HOW THE CJEU WILL INFLUENCE THE POLICIES OF OTHER EU BODIES:“If the Court – a politically independent body whose power and authority are unquestioned in the Union – assesses the Polish judiciary, it will be an important argument for EU bodies. Both in the rule of law protection procedure and in the future EU budget, where the state of the rule of law will determine the allocation of subsidies.” https://www.polityka.pl/tygodnikpolityka/swiat/1754228,1,trybunal-sprawiedliwosci-moze-ocenic-stan-polskiego-wymiaru-sprawiedliwosci.read

-- MICHAŁ WILGOCKI IN GW ON HOW THE CHURCH USES EUPHEMISTIC LANGUAGE:“Using euphemistic generalities has recently been the Church's specialty. This was the case with the protest of people with disabilities. In response to appeals for the Church to mediate between the protesters and the government, Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki vaguely wrote that 'the persistent love of caregivers for people with disabilities makes the world more humane.' When the families of the Smolensk catastrophe victims begged bishops to help halt the compulsory exhumations, the Episcopate responded with a code that no one could decipher. Finally, when the government torpedoed the idea of creating humanitarian corridors from Syria, supported by the Episcopate, the bishops bowed their heads. The evangelical 'yes, yes, no, no' has been replaced by the Polish bishops with: 'I don't know, I'm not oriented, it's hard to say.'” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75398,23610593,episkopat-o-skrajnych-nacjonalistach-mowi-szyfrem.html
