-- SE ON MORAWIECKI'S HOURS-LONG MEETING WITH KACZYŃSKI: “On Monday afternoon, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited Jarosław Kaczyński's villa in Żoliborz, who is recovering from knee surgery. The meeting lasted several hours and extended into the late night.” https://www.se.pl/wiadomosci/polityka/wielogodzinna-narada-premiera-z-prezesem-pis-morawiecki-chce-wzmocnic-rzad-aa-6WtK-fyPv-v1wa.html
-- ORLEN'S BILLIONS - RZ ON THE FRONT PAGE: “According to Obajtek, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki received Orlen's investments in petrochemicals with great satisfaction. He recalls that this is another direction of development, analyzed this year, following the purchase of shares in the Czech Unipetrol and the decision to take over Lotos. – The petrochemical industry is strongly linked to refining. This is one of the reasons why we need Lotos's refining assets – says Obajtek.” http://archiwum.rp.pl/artykul/1376182-Miliardy-Orlenu.html
-- RAFAŁ CHWEDORUK BELIEVES PiS HAS NOT YET BEEN OUTBID BY THE OPPOSITION - according to SE: “With the local elections approaching, the real fight will be for regional assemblies. Voter turnout here isn't high, so mobilizing villages and small towns becomes crucial. This electorate is the most left-leaning on social issues and expects the greatest social solidarity. It's clear that these proposals are aimed precisely at this electorate. Will they work? The opposition would have to outbid PiS on social issues. And for now, there's no sign of that.” https://www.se.pl/wiadomosci/polityka/prof-rafal-chwedoruk-o-socjalnej-ofensywie-rzadu-jak-trwoga-to-pis-skreca-w-lewo-aa-qUs5-jGm6-efHP.html
-- THE PRESIDENT WAITED FOR SURGERY AS LONG AS ANY OTHER PATIENT IN ACUTE CONDITION - MINISTER OF HEALTH ŁUKASZ SZUMOWSKI FOR FAKT - fragment of the interview:
“ - But not as a doctor, as a colleague.
- I maintain regular contact with the president.
- And as a doctor?
- Well, as a doctor, I can't say anything.
- For knee surgery, the kind President Kaczyński had or could have had, one waits for years. When will we be treated faster – like politicians?
- I know that the president waited for admission to the hospital as long as any patient with the same condition and in the same state, i.e., acute condition, would wait. And if he wishes to speak about it himself someday, you will be able to verify my words. Fortunately, his health condition allowed him to be discharged from the hospital.”
-- BARTŁOMIEJ SIENKIEWICZ TELLS KRZYSZTOF MAZUR THAT HISTORY HAS CONDEMNED POLAND TO PERIPHERALITY: “The most important question one can ask in politics, and even more so in economics, is: ‘What is the alternative?’. In my opinion, we are a peripheral country. History, or rather our ancestors who were unable to create real political weight and lasting strength during the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, condemned us to such a role. We are dependent on other centers and must take this into account when shaping our agenda towards gradual enrichment and development of social relations. This is a slow, boring, and ineffective process. Of course, we can decide that such a path does not interest us.”
-- SIENKIEWICZ ON THE CONSEQUENCES OF POLITICAL SUPREMACY OVER NORMS: “Therefore, a certain reflection has occurred, similar to that after the period of religious wars in the 17th century, concerning what the supremacy of political will over legal norms can lead to. The dilemmas you mention were thus resolved in the West after World War II. Today, they only concern Poland and Hungary. They are not seen in the civilizational centers that drive change. This is not the case in Germany, despite the recent AFD result, nor in France, despite Marine Le Pen's success. Moreover, this aversion to democracy bound by institutions and law is not reflected in the political participation of societies, because in our part of Europe, with Poland at the forefront, we can only dream of the turnout figures achieved in the West. Let us therefore try to either diagnose the problems of Western democracy or those of Poland and Hungary.”
-- SIENKIEWICZ ON IDEAS AND MONEY FLOWING FROM CENTERS TO PERIPHERIES: “I am a Wallersteinian, both by conviction and experience. I understand that the leftist concepts of a global system of dependencies and the belief that civilizational centers exist are not popular in the Jagiellonian Club environment. Unfortunately, however, the relationship is such that ideas, money, and technologies flow from the centers to the peripheries, not the other way around.” http://jagiellonski24.pl/2018/06/09/sienkiewicz-nasi-przodkowie-skazali-polske-na-peryferyjnosc/
-- ŁUKASZ ROGOJSZ IN GAZETA.PL ON WOJCIECHOWICZ'S BOOK, WHICH CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS FOR PLATFORMA IN WARSAW: “For Platforma, this publication is terrible news. For several reasons. Firstly, it will bring to the fore the figure of Mayor Gronkiewicz-Waltz, from whom the party has been trying to distance itself for months. Secondly, it will publicize details of the political workings of Platforma, which in the context of the ongoing battle for the capital's mayorship could cause significant indigestion for Grzegorz Schetyna's party. Finally, thirdly, it will push Rafał Trzaskowski onto the defensive and force him to explain the actions of his party colleagues.” http://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/7,114884,23526068,ta-ksiazka-moze-narobic-platformie-sporych-problemow-w-warszawie.html
-- ŚPIEWAK'S CANDIDACY REVEALED THE PROTECTIVE ATTITUDE OF LIBERALS TOWARDS THE LEFT - IT'S ONLY GOOD WHEN IT'S THE YOUNGER PARTNER - ADAM LESZCZYŃSKI: “Supporting Jan Śpiewak's candidacy for Mayor of Warsaw exposed the patronizing attitude of liberals towards the left: it is only good when it fights PiS as a junior partner of Platforma. If it has its own ambitions, it only causes harm and should remain silent.”
-- ŚPIEWAK'S SUCCESS MAY MAKE PO AND ITS MEDIA ALLIES REALIZE THEY ARE NOT THE ONLY HOPE FOR DEMOCRACY - LESZCZYŃSKI CONTINUES: “Śpiewak's success may also – although I doubt it – make Platforma and its media allies realize that they are not the only hope for Polish democracy. That they are not the only alternative to PiS rule in Poland. The pathos and complacency with which the liberal center claims to be the 'last barrier against dictatorship' is unbearable and false. It also contains moral blackmail: either you are with us – and thus, for example, you vote for Trzaskowski in Warsaw – or you support PiS.”
-- LESZCZYŃSKI: I WOULD LIKE PO TO EMERGE HUMILIATED AND WEAKENED AND TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE LEFT CANNOT BE TREATED LIKE THIS, AND THE UNCLES AND AUNTS OF DEMOCRACY WOULD LOSE SOME AIR - LESZCZYŃSKI'S CONCLUSION: “And precisely for this – and only for this – reason will I probably end up voting for the PO candidate in the second round. However, I would like it to be a narrow victory; for PO to suffer a solid beating in this contest, to emerge from it humiliated and weakened, so much so that it understands that by not treating the left on equal terms, it cannot remove PiS from power in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Perhaps this would mobilize the main opposition force to make a bit of an effort. And incidentally, the uncles and aunts of democracy would lose some air.” http://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/7,161770,23525567,leszczynski-wujowie-i-ciotki-demokracji-nienawidza-jana-spiewaka.html#Z_MTstream
-- JAKUB MAJMUREK ON THE CHANCE FOR THE LEFT IN WARSAW: “If the Razem project is to succeed anywhere now, it is precisely in a place like the capital. Although Zandberg's party would very much like to represent the working class, its electorate is urban, intellectual, and – for educated big-city dwellers – not particularly wealthy. In Warsaw, there is a sufficient amount of the economically weaker middle class, often pushed into precarious working conditions, vitally interested in improving the quality of life in the city, for Razem to count on a decent – for this party's capabilities – starting point. The same applies to Nowacka's slightly more centrist and probably slightly wealthier electorate.”
-- ŚPIEWAK CAN TAKE ON THE ROLE OF A CHARISMATIC LEADER - Majmurek continues: “With his somewhat populist style, Śpiewak can add an electorate to which Zandberg and Nowacka have limited access: less educated, angry, vaguely 'anti-system,' voting for Kukiz in previous elections or not voting at all. Unlike the leadership of Razem, Śpiewak also seems to understand that contemporary politics requires a charismatic leader and can embody that role.” http://m.newsweek.pl/opinie/wybory-samorzadowe-w-warszawie-szansa-dla-lewicy-,artykuly,428631,1.html
-- MP FROM KRAKOW ERASES TIES TO KRAKOW - headline in local GW: “Rafał Trzaskowski, born in Warsaw, emphasized his ties to the capital of Małopolska when running for the Sejm as the 'number one' candidate from Krakow. Now, as he runs for the position of the capital's mayor, the Krakow threads have disappeared from his discourse, and Warsaw themes have emerged.” http://krakow.wyborcza.pl/krakow/7,44425,23527875,posel-z-krakowa-gumkuje-zwiazki-z-krakowem-spore-zmiany-na.html?disableRedirects=true
-- PO CANDIDATE IN KRAKOW IN TWO WEEKS - POSSIBLY SUPPORTING GIBAŁA - LOVeKRAKOW: “Nominating Łukasz Gibała is another scenario. Members of Nowoczesna have taken on the burden of discussions with the former PO MP. – We know that Gibała would like to run with our support and that of Nowoczesna – reveals a member of Platforma's board about the state of affairs.” http://lovekrakow.pl/aktualnosci/za-dwa-tygodnie-mamy-poznac-nazwisko-kandydata-po-na-prezydenta-krakowa_25889.html
-- STUBBORN PRESIDENT - headline in GPC.
-- PiS IS PLAYING FOR TIME - writes Jacek Liziniewicz in GPC: “Regarding the referendum, PiS is playing for time. ‘PiS's position on the referendum concerning the constitution will be known when the President submits a motion for its conduct to the Marshal of the Senate.’”
-- CONSTITUTIONAL SOCIAL PLEBISCITE - headline in DGP.
-- THE PROPOSED QUESTIONS ARE MEANT TO REVIVE THE IDEA AND PULL IT OUT OF POLITICAL ISOLATION - Grzegorz Osiecki in DGP: “The proposed questions are meant to revive the referendum idea and pull it out of political isolation. (...) Unofficially, it was also heard that they would be of a 'seminary' nature. Meanwhile, 15 very politically resonant and controversial questions appeared.”
-- DUDA TALKED WITH KACZYŃSKI - Osiecki: “This set of questions can set the outcome of the entire referendum in favor of the ruling camp. It is possible that some of the questions were consulted with the PiS leader. According to our information, Andrzej Duda spoke with Jarosław Kaczyński about the referendum a few days ago.”
-- THE CALENDAR OF EVENTS WORKS AGAINST THE PRESIDENT -- Tomasz Pietryga in RZ: “The publication of the questions is therefore an attempt to introduce the referendum issue into broad public debate and to generate the much-needed emotions. The only problem is that the calendar of events works against the president. The World Cup in Russia, holidays, and the local election campaign make it difficult to change this.” http://www.rp.pl/Prawo-dla-Ciebie/306129919-Pytania-bez-mocy---komentuje-Tomasz-Pietryga.html
-- IF TUSK HAD PROPOSED THE REFERENDUM, THE PROPORTIONS WOULD BE SIMILAR - Przemysław Harczuk in SE: “It is an obvious truth that if Andrzej Duda had not, but Donald Tusk had, initiated the referendum, the proportions would be similar. But the current opponents would support the referendum, and the supporters would be against it. Although this is not optimistic news. Because it turns out that, just as the elections in 1989 were one-third free, it turns out that we are also one-third democratic and civic-minded. Like an alcoholic community, where treatment is successful in 33 percent of cases.” https://www.se.pl/wiadomosci/polityka/przemyslaw-harczuk-o-prezydenckim-referendum-polska-jak-alkoholik-obywatelska-w-1-3-aa-XhwU-KmRS-3KKQ.html

-- KACZYŃSKI IS READING CENCKIEWICZ'S POLITICAL BIOGRAPHY OF LECH KACZYŃSKI - Fakt: “One of the drivers appeared in front of the MP's house with a bulky volume, the reading of which could easily take many hours, or even days. What kind of publication did Kaczyński receive? Upon closer inspection of the photos, one can see that it is a collective work 'Lech Kaczyński. Political Biography 1949-2005,' co-authored by Sławomir Cenckiewicz, Adam Chmielecki, Janusz Kowalski, and Anna K. Piekarska.” https://www.fakt.pl/wydarzenia/polityka/dziwna-przesylka-dla-kaczynskiego/kp4bc15
