-- SUSKI POSITIVELY ON ABORTION COMPROMISE AND CHANTING: NO DUDAS, NO TUSKS, ONLY SUSKI FOR PRESIDENT - 300LIVE: https://300polityka.pl/live/2018/04/11/

-- MAREK BEYLIN WRITES THAT UJAZDOWSKI IS A CANDIDATE OF THE PAST AND POLITICAL DESPAIR IN PLATFORMA: “Ujazdowski is a candidate of the past and political despair in Platforma. And an opportunity for democrats. (...) That is why I understand the disappointment of many democratic circles that an emblematic conservative became the PO candidate for the mayor of Wrocław. However, instead of cursing and lamenting, they should now prove that they are capable of their own politics. It is enough for Wrocław democrats, from the center to the left, to agree on a candidate who will be an effective response to PiS and PO.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,23252680,ujazdowski-to-kandydat-przeszlosci-i-politycznej-rozpaczy-w.html

-- LEFT-WING VOTERS WANT BIEDROŃ - SE POLL: “The largest number of respondents indicated that Robert Biedroń would be the best candidate for the left. The current mayor of Słupsk received as much as 62% of the votes among left-wing voters, the second place in the poll belongs to Monika Jaruzelska, 14% of left-wing voters would want to vote for the daughter of General Jaruzelski, and the third place was taken by the leader of the Razem party, Adrian Zandberg, who was indicated by 9% of respondents. The head of SLD, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, received 8% of the votes, while 7% of SLD and Razem voters indicated the answer I DON'T KNOW.” http://www.se.pl/wiadomosci/polityka/sondaz-kto-na-lewicy-ma-najwieksze-szanse-w-wyborach-prezydenckich-wyniki_1048926.html

-- POLES PREFER SLD OVER THE NEW LEFT - Łukasz Adamski on wPolityce: “So what is left for the left? The good old SLD, represented by the intelligent cynic Włodzimierz Czarzasty. However, it is a party associated with a specific period. Good relations with the Catholic Church, support for neoconservatives in the war on terror, lowering taxes for entrepreneurs – this is the left of Czarzasty's colleagues. Pragmatic, cynical, and avoiding sharp ideological disputes. It is precisely this kind of left that is now even exceeding 10% in various polls. It seems that a large part of voters, tired of the war between PO and PiS, are waiting for this kind of politics.”

-- POLITICAL RETRO FASHION - Adamski continues: “On the one hand, this is not good news for Jarosław Kaczyński, as it would be more difficult for ideologues from Razem to enter a potential post-election coalition with PO. SLD will not have such a problem. However, the presence of post-communists in the Sejm will guarantee clear rules of engagement. It will be a battle straight out of the 90s. Well, we have a retro fashion from that period in pop culture. So why shouldn't it happen in politics and mediocracy?” https://wpolityce.pl/polityka/389617-sondazowy-sukces-postkomunistycznego-sld-to-ostateczny-dowod-na-niechec-polakow-do-nowej-lewicy

-- TUSK ON THE PAINFUL SPECTACLE: “Donald Tusk, at the University of Dublin, commented in bitter words on the use of the Smoleńsk catastrophe for political purposes. - National mourning quickly turned into a painful and particularly ugly dispute - he stated.” http://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/7,114884,23253886,gorzkie-slowa-tuska-o-smolensku.html

-- ANNIVERSARY WITHOUT AN ATTACK - headline on the front page of GW.

-- ZUZANNA DĄBROWSKA ON "CLOSING SMOLENSK" - writes in RZ: “The announcement of the end of monthly commemorations, the lack of Macierewicz's final report, difficulties in the prosecutor's investigation, and the deadlock in relations with Russia regarding the wreckage show that the Smoleńsk era in politics has ended. The memory of the victims remains, but any use of this memory in the public forum will no longer be approved. ” http://www.rp.pl/Rzecz-o-polityce/304109908-Zamykanie-Smolenska.html

-- JACEK KARNOWSKI ON THE INDUSTRY OF CONTEMPT FOR LECH KACZYŃSKI: “Therefore, when we read the speeches of the late Lech Kaczyński, when we recall his great address at Westerplatte, his unequivocal condemnation of Russian imperialism, his calls for social solidarity, let us remember: he said this at a time when our country was flooded with platformer nihilism. He spoke when 'Wyborcza' boasted that 'Palikot was a success for us,' and an attempt was made to impose the level of primitive, stupid high schoolers on Polish politics. Every programmatic, identity-based speech by Lech Kaczyński was met with brutal attacks, with mockery. If attention was paid to what he said at all, as they most preferred to debate his minor verbal slip-ups or other trifles. This was the infamous industry of contempt.” https://wpolityce.pl/smolensk/389596-lech-kaczynski-byl-wielkim-prezydentem-ale-byl-takze-nieslychanie-odwaznym-czlowiekiem-bez-wzgledu-na-wszystko-mowil-prawde

-- A MONUMENT IS THE RESTORATION OF A LARGE PART OF SOCIETY TO THE FRAMEWORK OF THE COMMUNITY - writes Marcin Fijołek: “An important aspect of the entire matter is also the quality of the political community, which surprisingly directly translates into the quality of the state. Divisions are natural, but their emotionality and the harshness of language too often reach levels that preclude any possibility of understanding. The eighth anniversary brought us an important moment in this regard. The unveiling of a monument to the victims of 10/04 in Warsaw and the announcement of the construction of a monument to President Lech Kaczyński (one hopes it will be of appropriate aesthetic quality) are a symbolic restoration of a large part of society to the framework of the official community, the state. Of course, this all happened to some extent in 2015 as a result of the elections, but today we also have a tangible symbol of these changes. This is really very, very important.” https://wpolityce.pl/smolensk/389612-kluczowe-pytanie-na-osma-i-kazda-kolejna-rocznice-1004-dotyczy-powagi-polskiego-panstwa-i-jakosci-naszej-wspolnoty

-- LET THE CROSS REMAIN WHERE IT IS - Tomasz Krzyżak in RZ: “When the cross stood on Krakowskie Przedmieście, everyone shouted that they were its defenders – Archbishop Stanisław Budzik told me a few years ago. – And at St. Anne's Church, I never met anyone near it. And I still have before my eyes this cross that is there and interests no one – he concluded. Today, Jerzy Kalina decided to pull this very cross out of oblivion and incorporate it into his monument. I would like to believe that the words about the 'return' of the cross are just the artist's wish, that such an idea did not dawn on Jarosław Kaczyński's mind. I would like the cross not to divide Poles, not to be a tool for making politics. I would like…” http://www.rp.pl/Komentarze/304109906-Krzyzak-Zostawcie-krzyz-tam-gdzie-jest.html

-- RECONCILIATION A LA PIS - A MONUMENT FOR KACZYŃSKI, A PROSECUTOR FOR KOMOROWSKI - Wojciech Czuchnowski in GW: “PiS calls for unity, but in reality it says: monuments for us, prosecutors for you. Trying to find anything positive in this anniversary, one can say that 'at least they stopped lying.' This time, official government statements did not include claims of a 'terrible crime,' 'murder,' 'betrayed the world,' and 'attack.' The outbursts disappeared, and the Smoleńsk liar, Antoni Macierewicz, did not stand next to the PiS leader and the president.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,23253024,pojednanie-la-pis-kaczynskiemu-pomnik-komorowskiemu-prokurator.html

-- GERSDORF IS NOT SOLELY AUTHORIZED TO DECIDE ON CONSTITUTIONALITY - says Paweł Mucha in an interview with Agata Łukaszewicz in RZ: “In my opinion, she should convene a meeting of the National Council of the Judiciary immediately. The performance of duties described directly in the law should not be negated. With all due respect to Ms. Professor, she is also not solely authorized to decide on the constitutionality of regulations. This is not the American model. We have the Constitutional Tribunal, established to examine compliance with the constitution, we have a presumption of constitutionality of laws. In this situation, the First President of the Supreme Court has the obligation to convene a meeting, and it must be fulfilled.”

-- SOME JUDGES ARE POLITICIANS - says Mucha in RZ: “I believe that judges should not comment on the exercise of competencies by executive bodies. Making political assessments of ministers or other public administration bodies. The reason? Because this is not a judicial competency. Today, it is evident that some judges are unfortunately becoming politicians, which is clearly contrary to the constitutional principle of judicial apoliticism, which directly follows from their independence. A judge can, of course, make such a decision – I hang up my robe and run in the elections. Perhaps some judges have such ambitions. I could even point out a few names with a strong political temperament.”

-- MUCH A ON THE PRESIDENT'S CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION: “We are planning a constitutional convention on April 26. It will be a major event. Several hundred people active in the constitutional debate have been invited to participate. We want to summarize the discussion on constitutional changes so far. The need for a referendum is obvious. The majority of Poles are of this opinion. There are specific proposals for constitutional changes submitted by constitutionalists, by politicians, but above all by society. The paradox is that there is no party today that does not expect constitutional changes in terms of its program, yet not all these parties are engaged in supporting the idea of a referendum, in which the nation, meaning all of us as citizens, is to have its say. I am convinced that a consultative referendum will take place.” http://www.rp.pl/Sedziowie-i-sady/304119983-Pawel-Mucha-Sedziowie-sa-od-orzekania-a-nie-politykowania.html

-- APRIL 21 TEACHERS' PROTEST - writes Justyna Suchecka in GW: “The Polish Teachers' Union plans a nationwide demonstration of education workers under the slogan 'We've Had Enough.' - We invite parents, local government officials, everyone who – like us – believes that education is not going well – says Sławomir Broniarz, president of ZNP.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75398,23249765,21-kwietnia-nauczyciele-wyjda-na-ulice-warszawy-mamy-dosc.html

-- ANNA MARIA ANDERS ON HER TRIPS TO THE USA - says in SE: “My responsibilities include three main tasks. Maintaining relations with our foreign partners, including in particular the USA. Taking care of and improving the image of our country in the world and contacts with Poles abroad. Let me remind you that when American senators, including Senator McCain, wrote a letter to the Polish authorities expressing strong criticism of Poland, I reacted immediately. I managed to meet with Senator McCain, who is one of the most influential people in the USA, and discuss the situation in Poland. I convinced the senator that the media narrative produced by media outlets does not reflect the actual state of our country. Our next meeting was much more friendly. (...) I don't hide the fact that my surname also helps me. Americans have great respect for my father. This is a big asset. I try to use all of this to work for Poland as best as possible.” http://www.se.pl/wiadomosci/opinie/mam-poczucie-niesprawiedliwosci_1048985.html

-- CARELESS LEGISLATION IS BECOMING A POLISH SPECIALTY - on the front page of DGP: “For over a year, the Act on the National Revenue Administration has contained a provision that has two different meanings. Both concern a very important issue – what the tax authorities are allowed to do. Experts: haste makes waste.” http://gospodarka.dziennik.pl/podatki/artykuly/572408,legislacja-jak-po-diable.html

-- DGP ON UBER REGULATION IN POLAND: “The company is therefore at a disadvantage in Spain and France, among others. The Polish government also wants to introduce restrictions for Uber (such as the obligation to register the company as a carrier and introduce additional technical requirements for cars). The only barrier to overcome is... Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.” http://auto.dziennik.pl/prawo-na-drodze/artykuly/572413,szeroka-droga-do-zatrzymania-ubera.html

-- KOMOROWSKI WILL BUILD A NEW HOUSE IN BUDA RUSKA - SE: “Shock and disbelief! Bronisław Komorowski (66) destroyed his beloved estate in Buda Ruska! But we calm down. As we learned, a magnificent villa and bathhouse are to be built in place of the old forester's lodge and house!” http://www.se.pl/wiadomosci/polityka/bronislaw-komorowski-zburzy-dom-budzie-ruskiej_1048935.html
