-- I ASSESS THE PRIME MINISTER'S STATEMENT AS AWKWARD - THE PRESIDENT TELLS ZAREMBA: “I am sure that the Prime Minister did not intend to offend anyone's sensibilities. Therefore, I assess his statement as awkward. The extermination of the Jewish nation, everything that happened then, is a very difficult subject. Firstly, because it evokes understandable and justified emotions. For many people, it is still a trauma. Secondly, for us, born many years after the war, it is difficult to empathize with those situations at all. Therefore, words and judgments must be weighed carefully. We also demand this as Poles. Our nation also experienced tragedy. Poles were not murdered on the same scale as Jews, who were condemned to total extermination, but Polish families also lost loved ones killed and murdered. My grandfather's brother, as a partisan, fell victim to betrayal and was tortured to death by the Germans in Tarnów.”
-- MY COLLEAGUES FORGOT I AM THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC - PAD TELLS ZAREMBA: “You were presented as a brake on changes, if not a traitor.
-- I am the President of the Republic, which some colleagues and journalists have apparently forgotten.
Did that hurt you?
-- Not particularly. I know I did the right thing.”
-- IT IS NOT GOOD THAT THE "DEMOCRATIC PACKAGE" IS NOT BEING IMPLEMENTED - THE PRESIDENT STATES: “It is not good that the ‘democratic package’ is not being implemented. This was an important demand when PiS was in opposition in the Sejm.”
-- PAD ADVOCATES FOR CONSULTING WITH THE PRESIDENT ON CANDIDATES FOR MON AND MFA POSITIONS: “For strengthening the presidency. Not necessarily a very large strengthening. But for example, if the head of state is to have an influence on foreign policy or defense, the ruling majority should consult candidates for the head of the National Defense Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with him.”
-- FRAGMENT OF ZAREMBA'S CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT ABOUT MACIEREWICZ'S RESIGNATION: “Did you force this resignation? Did Prime Minister Morawiecki and President Jarosław Kaczyński also want to part ways with Minister Macierewicz?
-- In life, many factors usually decide.
Did you issue an ultimatum?
-- We had various conversations, we shared our opinions. Everyone knew my position, including President Jarosław Kaczyński.
Or perhaps President Kaczyński used you as a shield? He wanted to get rid of Macierewicz, but showed the hard electorate you as the reason for this resignation.
-- In politics, one realizes their concepts in various ways. I said that my cooperation with the minister was effectively blocked. From the perspective of the state, this was unacceptable.”
-- ON THE INTERNATIONAL ARENA, ONE MUST PUSH FORWARD - THE PRESIDENT STATES: “There are no empty seats on the international stage. If someone wants to grow, to move forward, they must push. When you push, others complain about the crowding. And they try to pressure us. There are many interested parties who do not want us to rise. Many of these conflicts stem precisely from this. We are pushing for Polish interests, blocking opportunities to steal the state budget and transfer money out of Poland. These are gigantic sums amounting to tens of billions of zlotys. Someone has been taking this money until now, and now they can't. It's easy to imagine that they are not happy and are taking various actions in our country, in Europe, and in the world. This is often not visible, but it is clearly felt. The stronger our position, the greater the resistance.” http://wiadomosci.dziennik.pl/polityka/artykuly/570483,prezydent-andrzej-duda-rozmowa-dgp-ustawa-o-ipn-i-krs.html
-- IF THERE IS NO SUNDAY CATASTROPHE, "GOOD CHANGE" WILL START REPEATING THIS EXAMPLE OF MISPLACED CRITICISM ENDLESSLY - Jacek Żakowski in GW: “This could be costly. If there is no catastrophe caused by non-commercial Sundays, the ‘good change’ will now begin – i.e., in the upcoming election campaigns – to endlessly repeat this example of misplaced criticism. It will try to prove that since its opponents were so wrong in this matter, they are also wrong in others. This will be applied to courts, schools, history, the Smolensk catastrophe, and international relations – that is, to all very important matters where PiS is truly and very expensively mistaken.”
-- WHEN THE GOVERNMENT'S CRITICS MAKE FOOLISH AND SPECTACULAR MISTAKES - JACEK ŻAKOWSKI CONTINUES: “In a month or two, when it will be possible to assess with near certainty who was right, this matter will need to be revisited. To remind ourselves where the fear of restricting trade came from, which entangled so many serious, important, and credible individuals. This is significant because the mistakes of a government that is leading Poland to many catastrophes are less visible and can politically go unpunished when its critics make foolish and spectacular mistakes. http://wyborcza.pl/7,75968,23130271,po-zakazie-handlu-w-niedziele-moj-swiat-sie-nie-zawalil-a-wasz.html
-- IF MORAWIECKI HAD BEEN A MINISTER UNDER TUSK, NEWSWEEK WOULD HAVE ADMIRED HIM - writes Jacek Karnowski: “This is a dud. But how symptomatic: if Morawiecki had accepted the offer to join Donald Tusk's government, which according to ‘Newsweek’ took place – he would have been admired by that editorial office. Not only for his competence, but also for his ability to switch from a well-paid industry to the public sphere, which is always very risky and poorly compensated, especially compared to the business environment. In fact, it's even amusing: the media-political world that lived so well in the Third Republic, and which could make material success the sole measure of a person's worth, is now clearly trying to stigmatize the head of government for his “wealth”. I write this in quotes, because we know where true wealth was and is in our country. It's not measured in millions, but in hundreds of millions, billions.” https://wpolityce.pl/m/polityka/385427-najnowszy-atak-na-premiera-to-kapiszon-choc-nikczemny-czy-jednak-ktokolwiek-kupi-to-egalitarne-przebranie-wlascicieli-iii-rp
-- PIOTR SKWIECIŃSKI: WE MUST WARN AGAINST IDEAS LIKE THE DELEGALIZATION OF RAZEM: “Incidentally, the caution of this constitutional provision clearly shows the legislator's intention, who clearly considered the delegalization of a political party as an extremely dangerous possibility. I agree with this intuition. Today, on the matter of ‘Razem,’ I would add something more. Namely, it is worth avoiding the impression that radical operations are being carried out for purely PR reasons. For example – that when the activity of fascist groups and, more broadly, anti-Semitism, became the topic of the day (in my opinion, unjustly and harmfully for our nation), we are trying to cover this topic with something extremely left-wing. I am sure that the prosecutor's office is well aware that under Polish law, one cannot demand the delegalization of ‘Razem,’ and knows that it will not do so. But even so, I would suggest a moment of reflection.” https://wpolityce.pl/m/polityka/385362-delegalizacji-razem-oczywiscie-nie-bedzie-ale-i-tak-trzeba-przestrzegac-przed-podobnymi-pomyslami
-- PIS PEOPLE ARE SELLING MRS. BASIA'S TOWER - Wojciech Czuchnowski and Iwona Szpala on the front page of GW: “In the summer of 2017, Srebrna, a company associated with PiS, was looking for a buyer for a valuable property that it had purchased advantageously after the fall of the PRL. Price: PLN 160 million. However, the seller was not Srebrna, but a company registered in Cyprus. ‘Wyborcza’ obtained a folder with the offer. (...) Conarius offers the plot, stating that it has all approvals and permits necessary to build a skyscraper. These include the ‘removal from the register of monuments (along with a demolition permit)’ of the old factory offices standing there. It also guarantees that the land is free of claims. The folder also reads about a ‘obtained’ final decision on zoning conditions, to which ‘the spatial development plan has been adapted.’ We checked: Srebrna does not have such a document to this day.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75398,23130229,przez-cypr-na-srebrna-czyli-rajski-plan-ludzi-pis-tak-chca.html
-- FREE SUNDAYS ARE THE END OF POST-COMMUNISM - JACEK KARNOWSKI: “Because post-communism has many faces. For example, it sanctified the principle of 'do as you please' – both in social life and in the economy. Thousands of people truly believe that this is the path to the success of the entire community; we see this attitude in the discussion about the ban on Sunday trading. Allegedly, nothing is connected to anything: the lack of any rules or restrictions, the promotion of consumerism, thus they have no connection to the condition of the family, fertility, lifestyle. All this runs separately, each stream of life in its own current. This is also post-communism: a completely false, even fantastical perception of the West, and above all, the sources of the West's success; because these sources are the ability to cooperate and moderation, not extreme egoism and free-for-all. Rebuilding the state is never easy, but Poles have already managed something: the justice reform has entered into force, and Sunday is regaining its true, in essence divine, radiance.” https://wpolityce.pl/m/polityka/385347-postkomunizm-umiera-powoli-i-zawsze-w-bolach-i-w-wymiarze-sprawiedliwosci-i-w-handlu-ale-udalo-sie-wazne-dobre-zmiany-wchodza-w-zycie
-- ORBAN NON GRATA IN THE USA - Michał Kokot in GW: “Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán considered President Donald Trump an ideal partner. However, he never met with him, and Budapest's relations with Washington are frosty. This is a warning for the PiS government.” http://wyborcza.pl/7,75399,23129828,analiza-orban-niemile-widziany-w-bialym-domu-nie-tylko-andrzej.html
-- CAUTIOUS THAW IN RELATIONS WITH LITHUANIA - title in DGP.
-- RYSZARD CZARNECKI SPEAKS IN RZ ABOUT GREEKS WHO TOGETHER MANAGED TO SPEAK ON REPARATIONS: “For example, PiS organized a conference in the EP on German reparations for Poland. Not a single representative from the opposition attended. When a Greek, Notis Marias, organized a similar conference on German reparations, but for Greece, all Greek MEPs attended. That's the difference between the opposition in Greece and the one in Poland.” http://www.rp.pl/Prawo-i-Sprawiedliwosc/303119963-Czarnecki-Moje-odwolanie-to-atak-na-Polske.html
-- UNDER COMMUNISM, FOR THE FIRST AND ONLY TIME, THE POLISH STATE WAS ANTI-SEMITIC - RYSZARD BUGAJ IN RZ: “March '68 was a massive communist stunt. Allow me a personal digression. During interrogation at Rakowiecka in April 1968, a Security Service officer threatened me with many years in prison for giving false testimony (I was indeed lying), but after consulting with his superior, he said: we will give you a last chance, but don't associate with Jews. A balanced assessment of the March attitudes is needed: one must take into account the enormous pressure of the system. It was the first – and only – time that the Polish state was an anti-Semitic state. Poles maintained a distance. There are grounds to consider that a positive change has occurred since the interwar period.” http://www.rp.pl/Publicystyka/303119965-Bugaj-Czyny-niepopelnione.html
