Zgorzelski on the Words of a Polish Diplomat in Volhynia:

Borderland Communities Are Outraged by This Speech, Because a Kind of Relativization Occurred.

- I would like to ask further about the words of Piotr Łukaszewicz, Poland's chargé d'affaires in Ukraine […]. He said: “Bowing my head over the Polish victims of Ukrainian violence in Volhynia, I cannot fail to mention the Ukrainian victims of the Polish state before and during the war. I am not creating symmetry, but we remember what was shameful and unworthy.” And Piotr Łukaszewicz was sharply criticized by the opposition for these words - asked Dominika Wielowieyska on Poranek TOK FM.

- I wonder, Madam Editor, if this is the practice in diplomatic circles […], when a representative of the Polish state comes to a country: the president, the prime minister, or the first deputy prime minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, is there a practice and principle that after him, the head of mission then speaks and corrects? - replied Piotr Zgorzelski.

- Perhaps the deputy head of mission should also speak? Perhaps the accountant? For God's sake, Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz went there, spoke on behalf of the Polish state, and that's that - he stated.

He continued: - This statement […] was unnecessary and it greatly inflamed public opinion. I spoke with borderland communities and they are outraged by this speech because a kind of relativization has occurred.
