Tusk After the V4 Summit:
If We Understand That What Unites Us Is Stronger Than What Divides Us, Europe Will Start Listening to Us.
- First of all, thank you, dear friend, for restoring hope that the Visegrad Group and each of our countries, including Hungary, can once again set the tone for events in Europe. What you have achieved means we can cooperate again, regardless of our differences - said Prime Minister Donald Tusk in his speech after the Visegrad Group summit in Hungary.
- It's been 20 years, a considerable amount of time, and with shorter and longer breaks, I've participated as Prime Minister in the V4's work. Back then, when it was a loyal cooperation, built on full trust in good intentions, no one was deceiving themselves. We were sometimes like one fist, and then we were able to not only influence decisions but impose some decisions in Europe - he continued.
- I'm not talking about empty ambition here. I'm talking about the fact that our countries, Central and Eastern Europe, with our experience, our difficult history, our successes, are countries that don't have to be on the sidelines in Europe, don't have to position themselves against Europe when not everything suits us, but we can set the tone in Europe - he went on to say.
- When we are together, and my colleagues have already mentioned that in key matters – energy, ETS, migration, cohesion, agriculture, but I could list for a long time more what unites us [...] if we always understand that what unites us, regardless of occasional political conflicts, what unites us is stronger than what divides us, then Europe will start listening to us - he added.
