Żurek on the selection of judges for the Constitutional Tribunal:
Discussions are underway, the first candidacies have emerged.
- In February, I would very much like to and will strive for us to see candidacies [for Constitutional Tribunal judges] and announced competitions. But haste makes waste, because it is an important decision - said Waldemar Żurek at a press conference at the Ministry of Justice.
- I would like one thing - that they be independent lawyers, who are not associated in the way those currently sitting in the Tribunal are associated. Not like you move from a parliamentary seat and shortly after you sit in the Tribunal - he noted.
- I would like them to be the best lawyers we have, but for them to be apolitical and independent. And that is not simple, because we have a profound crisis in the Tribunal. […] We can have a wish list, but this wish list needs to be adapted to reality, because I think there are people who have various concerns about entering a Tribunal that functions as it does today - he stated.
- I know that discussions are underway. The first candidacies have emerged. I can say that there are various people there - those whom I would see in the Tribunal and those whom I wouldn't. But until the coalition partners agree, I will not communicate it. As soon as I get the signal that there is a list - I will call a conference and you will find out about it - he declared.
