German State Has Not Yet Paid Reparations to Poland for WWII Evils. Nawrocki at Auschwitz

Michał Olech

- It is our duty, the duty of the Republic of Poland, to remember the tragedy of the Holocaust, but also to remember what happened before 1939 and before 1942. The world cannot be indifferent to what happened after '45. Only 15% of the perpetrators from German concentration camps were held accountable - stated President Karol Nawrocki on the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau prisoners.

- They were held accountable for the murders that took place here. For many years, the world turned a blind eye to this terrible tragedy and the responsibility for what happened in Auschwitz. After '45, we remembered the victims, but we forgot the perpetrators. Today, we hear so much praise that there was no world war after '45. The world lived in peace, the United Nations functioned, and for so many decades, it was not possible to bring to justice those who were responsible for this death and for this symbol in which we stand today - the President of the Republic of Poland continued.

- The German state has not yet paid reparations to Poland for the evils of World War II. This is not how you build a world of peace. For every crime and for every war, one must simply pay and apologize. Only then can we have the feeling that we have fulfilled our contemporary duty - he emphasized.

- Eternal memory to the victims of the Holocaust, the Jews who were murdered in the Auschwitz concentration camp. Representatives of one nation, and citizens of many countries, including my homeland, the Republic of Poland - he added.
