Żurek Speaks on the Ziobro Matter:
The Hungarian Side's Stance is Unacceptable.
"Firstly – the Hungarian side's stance is unacceptable. Information about Zbigniew Ziobro's alleged 'asylum' has not yet been confirmed through any official international channels. The ongoing proceedings have not been halted. On January 15th, the court will consider the prosecutor's request for an arrest warrant for the former Minister of Justice. The decision in this complex case, involving as many as 26 charges, will be made by an independent court." – wrote Waldemar Żurek on X.
"Secondly – a final court ruling has confirmed that the reinstatement of Dariusz Barski to the prosecutor's service in 2022 was carried out in violation of current regulations and had no legal effect. This is because a provision of the law was applied that was no longer in force. This means that the decision of the Prosecutor General of January 12, 2024, was in accordance with the law, and the dispute over the status of the National Prosecutor has been unequivocally settled – he is Prosecutor Dariusz Korneluk. Today's meeting between President Karol Nawrocki and Dariusz Barski had a private character." – he continued in his post.
"Thirdly – the first indictment in the case of irregularities at the National Centre for Research and Development has been submitted to the District Court in Warsaw. It concerns 33 individuals accused of participating in an organized criminal group, defrauding funds from European funds, issuing false invoices, and money laundering. Nearly PLN 5 million was defrauded, and an attempt was made to defraud nearly PLN 43 million. Some of the accused have pleaded guilty. And this is just the beginning." – he emphasized.
"Let's set emotions aside, we are firmly grounded. Although it is extremely regrettable to see the flight of a former Polish Government minister under the umbrella of a loyal ally of Putin, while another hail of bombs and rockets falls on residential areas in Ukraine." – he added.
"As for Hungary, I would just like to remind you that it has been at the core of EU institutions' interest for years due to its violations of the rule of law. This applies to areas such as civil society, media and scientific freedom, and the justice system. Huge EU funds for Hungarians are frozen, and there have already been 9 formal hearings before the Council of the EU regarding the rule of law." – he stated.
"Why did Zbigniew Ziobro believe that going there would be the best course of action? Why does he want to 'restore' democracy in Poland from there? Further comment is unnecessary." – he concluded.
