Tusk on Accountability at the Civic Coalition National Council:

There Is and Will Be No Impunity.

Mateusz Nowak

- We are uniting not to have, I don't know, a strong organization, to impress someone, we are uniting around an important cause, the most important cause [...] Poland's most vital interests. With genuine pride, I look at this qualitative difference between the governments of the Civic Coalition and our partners and what happened before October 15, 2023 - said Prime Minister Donald Tusk during the Civic Coalition National Council.

- No one in Poland today can have any doubts that the then authorities were focused on seizing all possible benefits for themselves and their own benefit, including material benefits. I will not use strong, brutal words here, but you know well that the settlements, which are gaining increasing momentum, settlements that result in dozens of indictments, arrests, and detentions of people in power who betrayed their public mission, who simply stole from Poland and Poles, and that all of this is still not enough - he continued.

- We currently have the most massive action of accountability for people in power who have abused their power in the history of Poland, and it is actually difficult to find an example in recent years anywhere in the world where democratically elected authorities have tried to hold evil, theft, and the greed of power accountable with such force and determination. And we are showing that democracy means that power, any power, must answer for what it does, before the nation, before the law. And that there is no impunity - he went on to say.

- This is what we are building in Poland today. There is no and will be no impunity for people in power who abuse their position for their own material benefit against people, regardless of who those people are. Also, if it happens, from our own ranks - he added.
