Nawrocki Writes to EC President Regarding the Migration Pact:
Poland Will Not Agree…
“The vast majority of Poles, regardless of their political sympathies, are opposed to the forced relocation of migrants to Poland. During my victorious election campaign, I announced that my goal is for Polish women and men to feel safe in their country. […] I also announced that I will not agree to the implementation of the Migration and Asylum Pact in Poland,” writes President Karol Nawrocki in a letter addressed to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
“Poland will not agree to any actions by European institutions that would aim to relocate illegal migrants to Poland, and I count on you to take this fact into account in your actions,” emphasizes the President.
A scan of the letter was published by the Head of the Presidential Cabinet, Paweł Szefernaker. Below is its full content:
“For over four years, Poland's eastern border has been subjected to constant migratory pressure, orchestrated by the Moscow regime using the Belarusian state and its special services. The Polish state allocates significant resources to guarantee the security of the EU's eastern border and bears the costs of supporting war refugees from Ukraine.
In 2025, nearly a million Ukrainian refugees still reside in Poland, while the number of Ukrainians who temporarily arrived in Poland after the outbreak of war reached several million. The Polish state acted responsibly after February 24, 2022, and accepted citizens of Ukraine fleeing the war. We offered not only our own homes but also the state support needed at that time. Poland acted in solidarity, even though it was not obliged to do so by a solidarity mechanism.
I agree that illegal migration is a problem that Europe must address, but the solution is not the forced relocation of migrants to Central and Eastern European countries. The causes of migration are primarily the difficult security and economic situations in African and Middle Eastern countries, and it is on this challenge that we should concentrate, while simultaneously protecting our citizens from illegal migration and its consequences. Our common task should be, first and foremost, to secure our borders and combat smugglers.
The vast majority of Poles, regardless of their political sympathies, are opposed to the forced relocation of migrants to Poland. During my victorious election campaign, I announced that my goal is for Polish women and men to feel safe in their country. One element of security is certainly the absence of risks associated with illegal migration, which is flooding Western Europe, also since the memorable decision of German Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2015.
I also announced that I will not agree to the implementation of the Migration and Asylum Pact in Poland. At the same time, I maintain readiness to cooperate on border protection, joint operational activities, information exchange, and technical support for member states most exposed to migratory pressure.
Dear Madam President, the European Commission faces important decisions in the near future, so I kindly inform you that Poland will not agree to any actions by European institutions that would aim to relocate illegal migrants to Poland, and I count on you to take this fact into account in your actions.”
