Why Do You Want to Dismantle Our Country's Core Research Infrastructure? Zandberg to Kulasek

Michał Olech

- Minister Kulasek, I have a question: why do you intend to dismantle our country's core research infrastructure? In recent hours, a dramatic appeal from scientists in Toruń has been circulating throughout Poland, as they are raising the alarm that the Radio Telescope, a key radio telescope for astrophysical research near Toruń, is threatened with closure – stated Adrian Zandberg in the Sejm.

- These are paltry savings; the funds needed are less than what we spend on the annual upkeep of Mr. Kropiwnicki, a Member of Parliament sitting on numerous committees, compared to what is needed to maintain this radio telescope. This issue, which has stirred the emotions of the scientific community, is merely a drop in the ocean of problems – continued the leader of Razem.

- The overwhelming majority of applications for maintaining research infrastructure have not been positively recommended for co-financing. These are necessary applications, this is necessary infrastructure, and the money simply isn't there. These are modest funds, which for reasons I don't understand, you are unwilling to allocate for these purposes. This is the dismantling of Polish science – he added.
