Sikorski Reveals Topics of Talks with Chinese Foreign Minister:
I Expect Understanding on This Matter.
- I am very pleased with the visit of the Chinese Foreign Minister to Poland. […] We have bilateral issues, such as the export of Polish food to China, and other trade matters. We have matters related to the UN agenda; the so-called UNGA, or General Assembly, begins next week. But I expect that our talks will be dominated by Russian aggression in Ukraine — said Radosław Sikorski on Poranek TOK FM.
Responding to the suggestion that China might be disappointed that Poland closed its border with Belarus, through which a Chinese trade route to Europe runs, he replied: - This is a very important topic, which if he doesn't raise, I will. As we know, this is an important route, and at the same time, a Russian-Belarusian hybrid operation against Poland is being conducted on this border.
He noted: - I expect understanding from China regarding the suffering of our border region, that Poland has already spent half a billion euros on a large, substantial fence on the border, and that we must maintain additional Border Guard forces, police, and military. All of this costs us.
- If the border is to be passable, there must be peace on both sides. […] China is a trading power, so an uninterrupted, fastest route between China and Europe is in mutual interest. Furthermore, China declares its commitment to the principles of national sovereignty, and pushing migrants across the border is a violation of sovereignty — he pointed out.
