Kierwiński:

Niedzielski Had SOP Protection Much Longer. He Didn't Apply For Police Security, Even Though He Could Have.

"Now, let's talk facts regarding the issue of Mr. Minister Niedzielski's protection. As you may recall, Minister Niedzielski ceased to be a minister on August 8th or 9th, 2023. Minister Niedzielski – and indeed, each of us who is granted either statutory protection or SOP (State Protection Service) protection based on a decision – sees this protection expire after concluding their public service. In my case, when I finished my first term at the Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA), this protection was legally withdrawn after 30 days," said Marcin Kierwiński at a press conference.

"The Minister Used This Protection Only a Dozen or So Times"
"Minister Niedzielski was dismissed from his post at the beginning of August. He was entitled to SOP protection until the end of December 2023. However, SOP does not protect all former ministers or former prime ministers. Detailed analyses are carried out. As early as October 2023, the head of SOP requested the withdrawal of this protection. [...] The decision to remove SOP protection from Minister Niedzielski was made at the end of December 2023," he pointed out.

"From August 8th, which marked the end of his term, until the end of December [...], the minister used this protection only a dozen or so times. Indeed, he failed to use this protection; he would dismiss protection officers or simply not inform them at all. Five months – yet this protection was with Mr. Minister Niedzielski only a dozen or so times. You yourselves can judge this fact," he said.

"He Did Not Apply for Police Protection"
"Anyone among us who feels threatened can apply to the relevant Provincial Police Commander for police protection. After stepping down as minister, Mr. Minister did not apply to the Metropolitan Police Headquarters, which is responsible for Minister Niedzielski's place of residence and registration. No such application was received. [...] Furthermore, since the beginning of 2023, the minister had not reported any threats against himself to the police," he stated.

"Clumsily Attempting to Politicize This Issue Is, In My Opinion, Unbecoming"
"I deeply sympathize with Mr. Minister Niedzielski for what has happened to him. However, attempting to clumsily politicize this matter is, in my opinion, unbecoming, to put it quite frankly," he assessed.

"No politician [...] is entitled to lifelong SOP protection. [...] Mr. Minister Niedzielski had SOP protection significantly longer than the regulations stipulate, and he did not use this protection as he should have; I say this with full responsibility," Kierwiński concluded.
