Trzaskowski:

The Underground State Defied Stereotypes, Proving Cooperation Beyond Divisions is Possible

- The Underground State was an absolute phenomenon that astonished all of Europe and continues to amaze many historians, researchers, and anyone who knows anything about it to this day. Just like the Home Army. It is important in our history because it defied stereotypes - said Rafał Trzaskowski during a ceremony at the monument to the Polish Underground State and the Home Army. - A stereotype, which in part corresponded to the truth of the interwar period, was what the majority of historians dealing with that era confirm, that Poland had never been so divided. Some even claim that in the interwar period, Poland was more divided than it is today - he continued. - In the interwar period, young people were criticized [...] for lacking a patriotic attitude. Our ability for self-organization, for taking matters into our own hands, was also criticized, as was a lack of professionalism. And in the hour of trial, all of this changed - he went on to say. - Everyone criticized Poland in the interwar period for a lack of community. Poland was exceptionally divided. And at the moment of trial, all of this was managed to be changed; at the moment of trial, everyone stood shoulder to shoulder, and the Underground State showed that cooperation beyond divisions is possible, that in the hour of trial, one can cooperate and fight the occupier side by side - he added.
