Tusk on Accelerating Accountability:

Today Poland Also Needs a Strong Prosecutor General.

We all had the conviction that restoring the rule of law is a twofold process. Firstly, restoring standards regarding human rights, judicial reforms, unblocking the KPO by demonstrating that Poland is returning to the tracks of the rule of law, and this was very difficult because it required hard legislative work, it required the president’s consent, and this cooperation was not good; the president was among the authors of this mess concerning the rule of law system, and Minister Bodnar repeatedly emphasized that he wants to fix the system, and yet he is the Minister of Justice and simultaneously the Prosecutor General – stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a government session. - We agreed with Waldemar Żurek, with full conviction, that today Poland also needs a strong Prosecutor General. It’s not just about these changes, which will be difficult to implement anyway due to the strength of the opposition and the president, but it’s also about exercising the power of the Prosecutor General, and where it is desirable, needed, and possible, to accelerate both accountability and the restoration of a sense of justice – he continued. - There will be no sacred cows, and we will keep our fingers crossed for Minister Żurek in his fight, and I know how determined he is, so that people in Poland see that justice will catch up with everyone who does wrong things – he emphasized.
