Morawiecki:

Remarks by the Director of the German Poland Institute are disgraceful. Germany has still not accounted for its guilt towards Poland.

"Peter Oliver Loew, director of the German Poland Institute, stated that within the framework of the Polish House being established in Berlin, many perspectives should be presented, including the collaboration of Poles during World War II, their involvement in the Holocaust (he graciously added 'with a question mark' here), the issue of Polish complicity and participation in crimes. As he said, polyphony is important. I believe that another word starting with 'P' is more important: Truth (Prawda)" - wrote Mateusz Morawiecki on X. "I consider Mr. Loew's remarks to be disgraceful and shameless. They sadden me further as they come from the director of such a distinguished institution, founded by the late Karl Dedecius, who did so much to strengthen Polish-German relations. It is a shame that the current director does not follow in the footsteps of his patron, but instead seeks cheap sensationalism and falsifies history" - he continued. "It is never enough to remind that during World War II, 6 million Polish citizens died, the majority of whom were killed by Germans. In Poland, occupied by Germans, aiding Jews was punishable by death – yet, the most Righteous Among the Nations are Poles" - he emphasized. "Germany has still not accounted for its guilt towards Poland: neither in terms of historical memory nor in material terms. The bizarre stone recently unveiled to commemorate Polish victims looks like a grim joke. Reparations are a taboo subject for the German side. It is simply unbelievable that 80 years after the end of hostilities, Germany is unable to face the truth and atone for it, either morally or materially" - he concluded.
