- I am speaking of this hope associated with the fact that Dr. Karol Nawrocki became the President of the Republic of Poland, even though the current rulers, even after the elections, tried to annul the will of the nation, they tried to undermine the choice our countrymen made - said Mariusz Błaszczak during the opening of the conference 'Truth and Memory of the Augustów Roundup'. - I am saying this also to show the methods; these are the same methods, perhaps less drastic, as those used in '45 and those later used against the Cursed Soldiers, against Polish patriots, against Polish heroes - he continued. - One can say that today we are experiencing the same dispute again. The same dispute concerning our future, whether Poland will be independent, whether Poland will be sovereign, whether decisions about our future will be made here, in this building, or perhaps in Berlin, or maybe in Brussels - he went on to say. - This is the choice we face every day, the choice we faced on June 1st, and I am proud that on June 1st we chose precisely this way, that the President of the Institute of National Remembrance will be the President of the Republic of Poland - he added.
