President Duda Discusses Barbara Skrzypek's Death with the Commissioner for Human Rights:

Expressed Concern Over Rule of Law

President Andrzej Duda held a meeting today at the Presidential Palace with the Commissioner for Human Rights, Marcin Wiącek. During the discussion, the President expressed his concern regarding the state of the rule of law and the observance of human and civil rights in criminal proceedings – informed the Chancellery of the President.

„In connection with the death of Ms. Barbara Skrzypek, President Andrzej Duda has asked the Commissioner for Human Rights for an explanation of the prosecutor's office's actions and to determine whether the procedural standards and Ms. Barbara Skrzypek's rights as a witness were respected.

During the conversation with the President, the Commissioner for Human Rights stated that he had approached the Minister of Justice, Adam Bodnar – the former Commissioner for Human Rights – requesting a legislative amendment to Article 87, paragraph 3 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (kpk), which is the provision under which Ms. Barbara Skrzypek's legal representative was denied participation in proceedings.”

A meeting between the President of the Republic of Poland and the legal representative of the late Ms. Barbara Skrzypek is planned for 4:00 PM.
