PKW to Hołownia: Presidential Elections Can Be Called After January 14

As of October 16, 2024, the state of natural disaster, introduced in part of the country due to the September 2024 floods, ceased to be in effect. In accordance with Article 228, Paragraph 7 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, during the state of natural disaster and within 90 days after its termination, elections for the President of the Republic of Poland, among others, cannot be held - wrote the head of the National Electoral Commission (PKW), Sylwester Marciniak, in a letter to the Marshal of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia. In the assessment of the National Electoral Commission, the cited provision of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland concerns the entire electoral procedure, from the calling of elections to the day of voting. Therefore, the National Electoral Commission expresses the opinion that the elections for the President of the Republic of Poland planned for 2025 may be called after the expiry of the aforementioned deadline, i.e., after January 14, 2025 - he informed.
