Tusk:

Budget Secured for Teacher and Public Sector Salary Hikes, "Babciowe" Program, IVF, and Dormitory Renovations

- In the budget for 2024, we have secured funds for a 30% increase in average teacher salaries, and 33% for novice teachers. The idea is that a 30% raise for novice teachers [...] would not amount to the promised 1500 PLN, hence the need to increase it to 33% [...]. We have also remembered, in line with our commitments, about preschool teachers, allocating an additional 2.3 billion PLN in preschool subsidies for local governments to finance salary increases for preschool teachers. The same applies to academic teachers, with a 30% increase, and funds have also been found in the budget for this - said Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference. - We are also ensuring in this budget a 20% increase in salaries and emoluments, including base amounts, for all employees in the state budget sector, as well as soldiers and officers, including customs officers. [...] The salary increase does not apply [...] to the highest political positions. [...] We have also secured funding for the "Active Parent" program, which is the official name for the unofficial "babciowe". We have secured funding for in vitro treatments. [...] Institutions like the child and youth helpline will also return, and we have allocated 10 million PLN for this, as well as funds for learning the Silesian language - he continued. - We will also unblock [...] payments exceeding 3.2 billion PLN of the developmental part of general subsidies for local governments. The name is long, formal, and boring, but in reality, it's about starting the process of rectifying wrongs also concerning territorial self-governments. [...] We will ensure financing for the treatment of children with SMA and 50 million PLN will be allocated from the Minister of Health's reserve [...]. We have found funds, 150 million PLN for the renovation of student dormitories - he further stated. - We have also adopted resolutions at this Council of Ministers meeting, one of which concerns the re-introduction of fee exemptions on the Gdańsk-Toruń highway, as this was expiring these days [...] before we implement a clear and universally binding system, we want to maintain this concession - he added.
