PM Morawiecki: I've decided to refer the Istanbul Convention to the Constitutional Tribunal for examination of its compliance with the Constitution

- In public discourse, many people also raise serious objections to the Istanbul Convention, namely that it infringes upon our legal order, that it has an ideological basis, that it incorrectly defines the real sources of violence against women, and that it does not provide effective tools to combat domestic violence. These are very serious doubts that cannot be ignored. These doubts must be addressed appropriately. As a government, we partially share these concerns and have reason to believe that the document may be inconsistent with the Constitution regarding, among other things, the state's impartiality in matters of worldview and parents' right to raise children in accordance with their conscience. Therefore, I have decided to refer the Istanbul Convention to the Constitutional Tribunal for examination of its compliance with the Constitution. Matters of such great importance should be considered within a transparent, lawful procedure - stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at a press conference at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister (KPRM).
