Witek:

I've referred a dispute over competencies between the Sejm and the Supreme Court to the Constitutional Tribunal. The First President of the Supreme Court's plans undermine our right to legislate and thus the President's authority to appoint judges.

I wanted to share information regarding the Supreme Court's planned session for Thursday and what First President Gersdorf intends to do. In a sense of responsibility for the fate of the state and the laws we enact in the Sejm, I have signed and submitted a motion to the Constitutional Tribunal to resolve a dispute over competencies between the Sejm and the Supreme Court, naturally considering the President's competencies, because decisions on the structure of courts are regulated by laws, and laws are adopted by the Sejm. However, what the First President of the Supreme Court plans for Thursday is an undermining of our exclusive right to legislate, and thus also an undermining of the President's authority to appoint judges – stated Elżbieta Witek at a press conference in the Sejm.
