Morawiecki:

Satisfied that our demands were met, aiming for an agreement on Brexit

Michał Olech

- I am satisfied that our demands, which we have been raising for a year, since it became clearly visible that the ratification crisis in the context of Brexit was growing, have been met. We always wanted some form of agreement to be reached, and when Great Britain proposed a new formula, we strongly advocated for it through diplomatic channels. I spoke with Ursula von der Leyen, Michel Barnier, and Boris Johnson on several occasions, encouraging them to find a compromise on this matter. And it is clearly visible where there is dialogue, there is also an agreement, and we are in a much better situation today because if the House of Commons ratifies this new formula, and we approve it at the European Council, then we will be in the position that Poland has always strived for. Poland has always emphasized that while we would have preferred Great Britain to remain in the EU, we respect the choice of the British people – stated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki before the EU summit in Brussels. As he noted, our interests are secured today.

- A huge success for Polish diplomacy. It is very good that behind the scenes of these difficult negotiations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Szymański, acted very effectively to achieve such a compromise. Therefore, we are very satisfied here – added the head of the Polish government.
