On Lay Judges: Analyses Underway at the Ministry of Justice

Michał Olech

Indeed, analyses are underway at the Ministry of Justice, and it depends on the very construction whether we will need to touch upon the matter of the fundamental law or not. It might also be the case, but we will see. Analyses are currently ongoing. However, the idea itself [of lay judges] is supported by us. That is, the idea of judges being elected in general elections – stated Patryk Jaki in a conversation with Jacek Prusinowski on Radio Plus. - A politician has one advantage. Politics, if you don't like Jaki, you can change him once every four years. A judge, however, cannot be changed, yet they wield greater power than politicians. Therefore, I believe that where there is public power and where there are people deciding on the future of other Poles, they should be elected as often as possible – added the Deputy Minister of Justice.
