- Generally, I am also not in favor of punishing for phrasing, even the most foolish and hurtful phrasing. In the Anglo-Saxon tradition, it is indeed true that freedom of speech is a deity, and practically anything can be said and one is never, at least criminally, punished for it. However, in the European and Israeli tradition, it is different. Yet, there are provisions in criminal codes stating that, for example, Holocaust denial is punishable - stated Jarosław Sellin on "Sygnały dnia" PR1.
- We decided that precisely this provision should be withdrawn because it was met with complete misunderstanding in the world and with a false interpretation of our intentions and our law. However, we will not retreat from the fight for dignity, honor, and the fight for historical truth. This law will continue to serve this purpose, only we will use legal-civil instruments, meaning lawsuits for very high damages, if someone dares to use such defamatory phrasing - he added.
