Sejm Extended to Friday. PiS Pushes Through Judicial Bills, Gawłowski Case Reopens For the current month, the Sejm is convening – at least for now – only once. The session will begin on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. At 10:15 AM, the first reading of a bill concerning the structure of common courts will take place. This is one of PiS's "compromise" proposals, which includes, among other things, equalizing the retirement age for judges, both women and men, to 65 years, and introducing a two-stage consultation process involving court senates and the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS) in the procedure for dismissing presidents and vice-presidents of common courts. Following the first reading, a block of votes is scheduled – a motion to reject the bill may be voted on. Subsequently, it will be sent to committee. The schedule indicates that PiS intends to adopt this bill (along with two others) during this session – the second reading will take place on Thursday between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Also on Wednesday evening – starting at 8:45 PM – the second readings of two other bills will occur: one concerning the publication of overdue rulings by the Constitutional Tribunal (TK), and another act intended to prevent "obstruction" (in a nutshell) by the First President of the Supreme Court (SN). This latter bill is being processed today in the Subcommittee on Justice, while the former will be processed tomorrow morning, also in the Justice Committee. Votes on the adoption of the bills may take place either on Thursday evening, between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, or on Friday between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. The Sejm authorities have indeed extended the session – it was originally planned to last two days. It is also known that during Thursday's voting block, a motion to grant consent for the detention and temporary arrest of Stanisław Gawłowski will be voted on, as well as motions to lift the immunities of Ryszard Petru and Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz.
