STATE OF PLAY: 58% Favor Reparations, Tusk: Government Shouldn't Buy Media Favor, Media Shouldn't Engage in Ambiguous Deals with Government, Wielowieyska: Kosiniak Wants Tusk to Run
-- TUSK ON THE ROUND TABLE: The government should not buy media favor, media should not engage in ambiguous deals with the government, and big tech should not exploit authors and publishers. There is something to discuss. Together with @M_K_Blonska, I invite the protest organizers to the "Dialog" center, Wednesday, 1 PM.
-- CIVIC PLATFORM HAD A WIN IN MAŁOPOLSKA ON THE TABLE. BUT DID THE OPPOSITION CANDIDATE FOR MARSHAL LOSE DUE TO PO VOTES? - ANGELIKA PITOŃ IN GW: "PO and Trzecia Droga could have taken back the regional assembly from PiS - according to our information. However, the ambitions of Platform politicians were said to have prevailed - it was about one seat in the board. (...) As "Wyborcza" learns, Klęczar's candidacy lost by two votes on July 1st... from Civic Platform politicians who did not vote for him. Why? Because, as a politician associated with Trzecia Droga tells us, they wanted two more seats in the 4-person board, not one, as they were offered (Trzecia Droga was supposed to take the second seat).

-- TUSK HAS A DEFINED IDEA FOR HIS POLITICS. IT CONSISTS OF "STEPPING INTO PiS'S SHOES" - DOMINIKA WIELOWIEYSKA IN GW: "Tusk has a defined idea for his politics. It consists of "stepping into PiS's shoes," as some commentators call it. The philosophy of the ruling camp's leader boils down to the slogan: PiS said for eight years they would do something, and we will simply do it, but better, more efficiently, more rationally. Because PiS are generally incompetent and are like a cow that bellows a lot but gives little milk. The Belarusian border, migrants, CPK. We are like PiS, but more effective. Tusk consistently implements this agenda, and there are a lot of examples of this."
-- THE PLAN SEEMED GOOD. THE ONLY MISTAKE WAS INFLATING EXPECTATIONS. BEFORE OLAF SCHOLZ'S VISIT TO WARSAW, THE MEDIA SUGGESTED THAT THE CHANCELLOR WOULD ANNOUNCE CONCRETE DETAILS - CONTINUES WIELOWIEYSKA IN GW: "The plan seemed good. The only mistake was inflating expectations. Before Olaf Scholz's visit to Warsaw, the media suggested that the chancellor would announce concrete details regarding benefits for still-living Poles harmed by the Nazis. But Scholz only said he would "try" to resolve the matter."
-- THE SPELL STILL WORKS: "DONALD, DO WHAT YOU WANT, JUST DON'T LET PiS RETURN TO POWER" - CLAIMS WIELOWIEYSKA: "However, for now, the Prime Minister's position is so strong that dissatisfaction will not be widespread. The spell still works: "Donald, do what you want, just don't let PiS return to power."
-- TUSK MUST SUPPORT KOSINIAK-KAMYSZ TO AVOID GETTING WALDEMAR PAWLAK - CONTINUES WIELOWIEYSKA IN GW: "The Prime Minister took this stance for two reasons. Not only because he is pursuing a policy of taking oxygen away from PiS, but also because he wanted to support Kosiniak. There is tension in the ruling coalition caused by Trzecia Droga's poor result in the European elections. In the parliamentary corridors, there is information that some of the Peasants' Party members would like to replace Kosiniak with Waldemar Pawlak, because in their opinion, the leader and co-creator of the PSL's influence in the 90s, who remains a grey eminence to this day, would be more assertive towards Tusk."
-- KOSINIAK - ACCORDING TO UNOFFICIAL INFORMATION - WOULD LIKE TUSK TO RUN IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS - CONTINUES WIELOWIEYSKA IN GW: "At the same time, Kosiniak - according to unofficial information - would like Tusk to run in the presidential elections. Because then he could count on the position of Prime Minister or at least hold the office of head of government during any interregnum. Furthermore, a change of Prime Minister is always an opportunity to open negotiations on various matters, because if Tusk became president, Civic Coalition would need the votes of its coalition partners to support a new government.

-- WERE THE STORIES ABOUT BETTER GERMAN-POLISH DEFENSE COOPERATION WORTH TUSK'S AGREEMENT TO SUCH A DISGRACE? I DON'T THINK SO - PIOTR ZAREMBA IN INTERIA: "Tusk emphasized the importance of transatlantic policy, and Scholz, quite blandly, but still agreed. The issue of a separate European army did not appear, although European defense initiatives, such as joint air defense, were discussed. Tusk even went so far as to softly call "our German friends" to spend more on the military. Were the benefits of this cooperation, written down in points, worth the actual renunciation not only of reparations but also of more generous compensation for the latest war victims? I don't think so. And even Lewica MP Anna Maria Żukowska, for once, clearly expressed her disappointment with the German Chancellor's promises and Tusk's passivity on this issue. What will Poles say about this?"

-- 58% WANT REPARATIONS FROM GERMANY - RZ POLL: "To the question asked, 58.2% of respondents answered "yes." 20% of respondents answered "no." 21.9% of respondents have no opinion on the matter. The need to seek reparations is recognized by 2 out of 3 men and every second woman. By age, demanding compensation for war losses is most often supported by respondents aged 35 to 49 (64%). Poland should seek reparations according to over 2/3 of respondents with vocational secondary education (67%) and a slightly higher percentage of individuals whose monthly net income exceeds PLN 7,000 (68%)."

-- THE PSL'S STANCE CAN APPEAR REASONABLE EVEN TO PEOPLE LIKE ME - PIOTR ZAREMBA IN RZ: "The PSL's stance can appear reasonable even to people like me. I was once against legal regulations for same-sex unions. I assumed they were unstable unions, incapable of forming even a semblance of a family, so they did not need legal guarantees and privileges granted to marriages between people of two sexes. Today, I am no longer so sure. The intention of living together should deserve some protection and support. Religious views do not bind all Poles."
-- IF SOMEONE WANTS TO DECLARE TO THE WORLD THAT THEY ARE CLOSE TO SOMEONE ELSE, THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO SO. PERHAPS IT EVEN FOSTERS GREATER DURABILITY OF SUCH RELATIONSHIPS - CONTINUES ZAREMBA: "Nevertheless, if someone wants to declare to the world that they are close to someone else, they have the right to do so. Perhaps it even fosters greater durability of such relationships, and thus the strengthening of interpersonal bonds. This interpretation, suggested to conservatives by some proponents of change, is not without merit."
-- LET'S IMAGINE A COUPLE OF YOUNG PEOPLE, HEALTHY AND SURE OF THEIR FUTURE. AND LET'S IMAGINE THAT ONE OF THEM THEN BECOMES A VICTIM OF ILLNESS OR ANOTHER RANDOM EVENT - CONTINUES ZAREMBA IN RZ: "Mutual obligations? They can arise, but they are not automatic. They must be written into a notarial agreement. Alimony after the dissolution of the union or community property can appear there. They can, but they don't have to. Let's imagine a couple of young people, healthy and sure of their future. And let's imagine that one of them then becomes a victim of illness or another random event. If there was no prior provision, there will be no obligation to help and support afterwards."
-- BY BUILDING SUCH A UNION STRUCTURE, ONE ENCOURAGES THE CONSOLIDATION OF EGOISTIC ATTITUDES - WRITES ZAREMBA IN RZ: "I am aware that there are happy cohabitations that provide mutual support for themselves and their children. And there are very egoistic marriages. However, the question is, what should the state promote more. By building such a union structure, one encourages the consolidation of egoistic attitudes. Which, I repeat, appears natural in societies where not even happiness, but the momentary pleasure of the individual is considered a priority."
-- I KNOW THAT FOR A SIMILAR THOUGHT I WILL SOON BE CALLED AN OUT-OF-TOUCH OLD MAN. HOWEVER, I WILL RISK THIS OPINION BEFORE THEY FORBID ME FROM HAVING IT, OR PERHAPS EVEN ACCUSE ME OF "HATE SPEECH" - ZAREMBA'S CONCLUSION: "I know that for a similar thought, I will soon be called an out-of-touch old man. However, I will risk this opinion before they forbid me from having it, or perhaps even accuse me of "hate speech" towards those who want to live as they please. Sometimes at the expense of the weaker, at the expense of a sick partner, a betrayed partner, abandoned children.

-- DEHNEL: FROM A TRADITIONAL PERSPECTIVE, KOSINIAK-KAMYSZ LIVES IN SIN, AND HIS CHILDREN ARE BASTARDS: "It is deliberate discrimination that the conclusion of partnership unions cannot resemble the ceremony of marriage - stated Jacek Dehnel in "Onet Rano." From a traditional perspective, Kosiniak-Kamysz lives in sin, and his children are bastards - added the writer.

-- AS AN ORDINARY CITIZEN, I HAD NO CHANCE AGAINST THE PARTY MACHINE - ŁUKASZ GIBAŁA IN A CONVERSATION WITH ELIZA OLCZYK IN RZ: "It was indeed difficult. Platform deployed significant forces to support their candidate; Krakow was essentially the only large city where the Platform's candidate could lose the election. Therefore, Prime Minister Donald Tusk came here, Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski visited twice, numerous national politicians appeared, and they promised various things. Moreover, negative PR was launched against me. We counted 100 negative posts about me in the last two months before the elections. Their source was the "Sok z Buraka" profile, created by a collaborator of Trzaskowski. As an ordinary citizen, I had no chance against the party machine."
-- I OBSERVE WITH AMAZEMENT THE AGGRESSIVE AND UNCOMPROMISING ATTEMPTS TO DEAL WITH PiS, TO WHICH PLATFORM RESORTS - CONTINUES GIBAŁA TO OLCZYK IN RZ: "National politics has become even more brutal than it was. I admit that I observe with amazement the aggressive and uncompromising attempts to deal with PiS, to which Platform resorts. In 2007, when Platform won the elections for the first time, they dealt with their predecessors much more leniently. Moreover, this atmosphere of revenge has spread to public sentiment. Many people believe that PiS is a great evil and that one must vote for Platform because only Tusk can defeat Kaczyński. Kaczyński's supporters say the same about Tusk."
-- I AM CRITICAL OF WHAT IS HAPPENING IN POLAND BECAUSE I BELIEVE OUR COUNTRY IS LOSING DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES. WE ARE MISSING THE CHANCE FOR CIVILIZATIONAL LEAP - SAYS GIBAŁA TO OLCZYK IN RZ: "I am critical of what is happening in Poland because I believe our country is losing development opportunities. We are missing the chance for a civilizational leap. These important megatrends, such as the development of electromobility or investments in artificial intelligence, are progressing slowly in Poland, and we are significantly behind other countries. It would be nothing wrong if we produced not only batteries for electric cars but also entire cars. So that the added value of such production remains in Poland.
