-- JERZY HASZCZYŃSKI ON HOW VON DER LEYEN USES PIŚ AND SALVINI'S SUPPORT: “The German candidate has one great – though not commonly recognized – advantage in the European arena. She can threaten mainstream parties by suggesting that, if necessary, she will secure a position with the support of eurosceptic parties in the European Parliament. The price for this would be the recognition of at least some of them as legitimate players on the EU stage. Left-wing German media suggest that von der Leyen's political base will include not only PiS but even Salvini's League, which is part of the far-right Identity and Democracy faction.”

-- ZDZISŁAW KRASNODĘBSKI SETS CONDITIONS FOR SUPPORTING THE GERMAN CANDIDATE IN AN INTERVIEW WITH ONET: “She is an EPP candidate, a controversial candidate. Not all groups or their members support her – said Krasnodębski, who lost the vote for one of the vice-presidents of parliament last week. – It is very important for us to see how we will be treated in the European Parliament.”

-- IT WON'T BE THAT EASY FOR PIŚ - PROF. JAROSŁAW FLIS IN AN INTERVIEW WITH JUSTYNA KOĆ IN WIADOMO.CO: “Let's not exaggerate, it won't be that easy for PiS. In my opinion, two blocs will form in the opposition. If the Polish People's Party goes separately, then PO will likely embrace the left and Wiosna. If it turns out that PO prefers to reach an agreement with the Polish People's Party and push the left outwards, then the left will have no choice but to unite, probably also with Zandberg. Otherwise, it faces catastrophe.”
-- PLATFORM WAS ALSO DEMONIZED LIKE PIŚ IS TODAY, AND WE KNOW HOW IT ENDED - FLIS CONTINUES: “The hysterical opponents of PiS constantly demonize it, treating its gains as permanent. The same was said about PO, and we know how it ended. The Polish People's Party is effective locally, as confirmed by local election results. In my opinion, there is something to gain here. Of course, we will still see what the PiS and Polish People's Party lists look like, but locally, from what I know, the Polish People's Party is stronger than PiS, which is very weak in terms of local personnel. Of course, as the EP elections showed, even meager resources can be mobilized better, and the Polish People's Party performed worse here. The Polish People's Party certainly has potential, but whether it can be activated remains unknown, but that's what campaigns are for.”
-- THE ASSUMPTION THAT NOTHING HARMS PIŚ IS WRONG, THEY COULD HAVE 60% - FLIS CONTINUES: “The assumption that nothing harms PiS is wrong. With this potential and such an opposition, if it didn't make mistakes itself, it would have 60% support, not 40% in the polls. This demonization of the opponent hinders rational action. There are certainly many things that weaken its position, and this was visible in the local elections. This is also potential for the opposition, and it's worth remembering that the key group for the opposition is undecided voters.”
-- THESE ARE EQUAL FORCES, NOT ANY HUNGARY - FLIS CONTINUES: “Everything here is still hanging by a thread. It must be admitted that if we count those who are against PiS in the last elections, i.e., supporters of Civic Coalition, Wiosna, and Lewica Razem, the result differs by half a percent from PiS's result. These are equal forces, not Hungary, where there is Fidesz, and then a long silence. (...) So far, the record for the second party was 32%. Therefore, the winner's record was 2.5% better than the previous one, but the second party's result was 5% better than the best, i.e., PiS's result in 2007. This is an element worth noting, because the fight is close.”

-- VOTERS DON'T BELIEVE THE OPPOSITION WOULD HANDLE PROBLEMS BETTER - MICHAŁ SZUŁDRZYŃSKI IN RZ: “Voters may be furious with PiS for the chaos in education and healthcare. But they don't believe the opposition would handle these problems – after all, no party in the history of the Third Republic has emerged victorious from the changes introduced in the education or healthcare systems. Queues for doctors were also long under PO, and they have grown even longer today. But does anyone believe that if Civic Platform wins the election, they will suddenly shorten? As long as Poles believe that PiS is managing, that it is fulfilling its promises, and that the opposition is untrustworthy, the opposition has no chance of winning. And for now, there is no sign that the opposition has a plan to improve this image.”

-- THE POLISH PEOPLE'S PARTY AND KUKIZ ARE DOOMED TO EACH OTHER - ANDRZEJ GAJCY IN ONET: “The Polish People's Party and Kukiz'15 are politically doomed to each other if a pre-election coalition between the agrarian party and Civic Platform does not occur. On their own, they have little chance of entering the Sejm in the autumn, which both Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Paweł Kukiz are well aware of.
-- THE AGRARIANS CAN SET CONDITIONS - GAJCY CONTINUES: “The only question is whether such a formation has a chance to convince voters? It may turn out soon that the Polish People's Party will reach an agreement with Civic Platform, and Koalicja Polska will disappear as quickly as it appeared in Polish politics. Nevertheless, the agrarian party is today in a convenient position for negotiations with both Schetyna and Kukiz. They can set conditions and choose with whom they want to run in the election race. The Pawel Kukiz movement, for whom these elections may be its last, does not have such comfort.”

-- MOST LIKELY PO WITH PSL - COALITION AGAINST PIS IN A FOG - Iwona Szpala, Paweł Wroński in GW: “We have learned unofficially that there will be further talks between Grzegorz Schetyna and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. As of today, a coalition of PO, PSL, and Nowoczesna is the most probable scenario.”

-- ZUZANNA DĄBROWSKA IN RZ ON THE OPPOSITION'S DEADLINE: “The PO–PSL coalition benefits the partners – generally, and the devil is in the specific arrangements. Dust and mirrors showing programmatic fluctuations and concerns about the coalition's direction are merely the circumstances in which the bargaining takes place. Carpet sellers in the Middle East are ready to introduce their entire family to the buyer, from the youngest descendant to the herd of goats they need to earn money for. The buyer is meant to feel like a heartless bloodsucker, wanting to take the seller's children's last dates from their mouths. The problem is that political negotiations have far more serious consequences than the pattern on a Persian carpet. By delaying the formation of a coalition, politicians endanger their electorate and their own political interests. Because when the deadline passes – nothing will matter anymore: the coalition arrangement, places on the lists, and the political direction. Then it will simply be too late for anything.”

-- WE MUST COUNT ON A LACK OF COMFORT - ANTONI MĘŻYDŁO ON RELATIONS WITH SLD AND RULEWSKI - TELLS JACKA GĄDKA IN GAZETA.PL: “This must be considered. I have no doctrinal limitations. Even if something is uncomfortable for me, it means it is only uncomfortable, and in politics, one must be prepared for a loss of comfort. My friend, Senator Jan Rulewski, threw down his papers at Platform and left over the coalition with SLD – he left because of the past, because as an opposition activist in the PRL, he couldn't stand post-communists on our lists. He made a mistake because he did it before the European elections – he harmed the opposition with this.
-- IF WE GO WITHOUT THE POLISH PEOPLE'S PARTY, THERE WILL BE WAR IN THE CAMPAIGN, SUCH IS THE NATURE OF COMPETITION - MĘŻYDŁO CONTINUES: “I don't know. I will have a problem myself with what to do with this and with myself. We are currently negotiating with the Polish People's Party, but if we go to the elections separately, we will be at war in the campaign. We will be fighting amongst ourselves, not just against PiS. Competition is in the nature of politics, after all.”
-- CZARZASTY WILL AGREE TO EVERYTHING NOW - MĘŻYDŁO CONTINUES IN GAZETA: “Czarzasty will probably agree to all conditions now. If Grzegorz Schetyna – due to Czarzasty's eagerness – is in such a comfortable situation, he will form a coalition with SLD on terms acceptable to me – without Marek Dyduch or Joanna Senyszyn.”
-- THE POLISH PEOPLE'S PARTY HAS NO CHANCE OF CROSSING THE THRESHOLD - MĘŻYDŁO CONTINUES: “The Polish People's Party doesn't even have a chance to form a coalition election committee that would cross the 8 percent electoral threshold. I believe we should go in two blocs. First: PO, PSL, Nowoczesna, local government officials, Barbara Nowacka. And second: the left, which can gain up to 10%.”
http://wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/7,114884,24977759,antoni-mezydlo.html
-- IN THE OPPOSITION, EVERYONE IS ALREADY PLAYING FOR THEMSELVES - MICHAŁ KARNOWSKI: “Not only Schetyna, but also Kosiniak-Kamysz must today primarily think about how to save their leadership within their formations in the face of an increasingly probable (but not decided, admittedly) autumn defeat. And the parties themselves, how to be a strong opposition. This dictates narrowing the front, a tight and loyal election list. Therefore, I expect this to be just the beginning of the turmoil. In the opposition, everyone is now thinking solely about their own interests. Separate campaign teams are operating, bonds formed during the European Coalition are breaking. There are too few chances of winning to risk again and assemble a grand front. Subsequent groups of May coalition partners will fall away, they will not get winning spots. This is logical. When one goes for victory, one must attract. When one plays with the awareness of difficult times ahead, one must close ranks.”
-- THE TRUE END OF ANTI-PIS - KARNOWSKI CONTINUES: “Thus, we are witnessing the true end of the anti-PiS idea, understood as prioritizing the task of removing Kaczyński's formation from power over all other interests, views, and ambitions. This concept brought the opposition several years of great emotions, some street noise, and a spoiled image of Poland abroad. But it also completely solidified all structures, thought processes, the search for new ideas and people. As a result, three months (approximately) before the elections, it seems to be in a state of considerable confusion.”

-- RAZEM BOARD MEMBER, PIOTR CZERNIAWSKI, BITTERLY ABOUT BIEDROŃ - WRITES IN KRYTYKA: “The question arises – who can keep up with all these turns? With a leader who doesn't believe in his own project? The greatest weakness of a leader-centric party is the leader, as evidenced by the downfalls of Palikot, Petru, and Kukiz, who promised exactly the same as Biedroń – change. But these gentlemen did not have the talent that Biedroń has, nor did they evoke such enthusiasm. They did not have people around whom a progressive project could be built for years; they relied on a random collection of individuals. Meanwhile, Biedroń has pushed almost all his best people to the margins, as evidenced by the election lists for the EP. This is not an epitaph for Wiosna, because something that has never truly been born cannot die.”
